Figure of destiny is worse than tattermunge maniac.

+ Is a 2/2 swinging the turn after you drop him

-At the cost of your two drop

+ Becomes big early and waaaay before control decks can set up

-There are no "control" decks at the moment

+ Becomes a 4/4 by turn 3 and allows you to be swinging for 4 + another random creature dropped on turn 2 with the extra mana and allows you to pace your hand and not dump all your burn quickly. This is the biggest mistake I found myself doing playing this deck at first. Simply emptying your hand is a great way to find yourself screwed later on.

-Again, being a 4/4 on turn 3 hurts your speed tremendously. You aren't trying to bleed out all their removal spells, you are trying to kill them as fast as possible.

    + Amazing lategame topdeck

-He is the same as topdecking ashenmoore gouger. Worse than topdecking burn or haste most of the time. Yes, as a late game topdeck tattermunge is weak, but it doesn't hurt your early game, which is what this deck needs to have at it's strongest.

WHy not fulminator mage instead of avalanche riders maindeck?

@Carthage:Everlasting torment doesn't belong in the general meta, does it?

WIth a higher curve, manabarbs is a more useful and powerful card.

RDW NEEDS something to deal with persist and life gain when they are used against it.

He must not have had many elf matches, as I would say the matchup is 80/20 against him.

Anyone have thoughts on the deck that PT player Shuuhei Nakamura played at GP Brazil
I think the Gouger might be decent in the current meta dodging most removal ie terro, nameless, firespout and most the time you will not be blocking with RDW anyways. My only thought are that I may SB the magus of the moon and MD ram gang because people in my meta come packing answers for magus.

I think it is a heavy meta deck. He doesn't even have torment in the sideboard. Impractical for many other metagames.

if you honestly think you can play RDW without 7-8 mandlands you should stop playing RDW.

    why is someone running cohort?

why isn't anyone using magus of the scroll?

*cough* maindeck magus of the moon *cough*

I run RDW with 0 man lands. It works much better than the versions that run more than 0

    Some people like haste

Because their are currently 3 better 1 drops

    Not worth it

If they double scion you you still have options. It's not auto loss. you can just burn them out if their life is low enough.

If you are hellbent and they are not in burn range, chances are you played poorly.

Personally I think a set of Mutavaults and some Ghitu are mandatory for the Fae MU.

    Neither are necessary at all.

Mutavaults hurt more than they help. The Faeries MU is decided by how much pressure you can put on. It's pretty easy to have enough pressure to win, but it helps a lot to have a ram-gang on turn three.

If you don't run ram-gang and have more than 21 lands, mutavaults are ok though, even though I think that's a suboptimal build.

Ghitu is overall worse than megaliths, and against faeries it is pathetic by comparaison. Megaliths allows you to control the board WHILE HELLBENT which is absolutely insane.

You should be playing out your hand if you have mana to activate ghitu.

Do you have any idea whatsoever how this deck functions whatsoever? I mean, have you actually tested it or are you just backseat driving here?

Annoyance aside, here's the relevant information on the cards you pointed out:

Flame Javelin: The only relevant 4-toughness creature in the format is Chameleon Colossus. Given that the slot that Flame Javelin would have to come into would be Incinerate's, it seems a bad deal to push the average mana cost in a very aggressive deck higher to account for one creature, because aside from that one creature, Flame Javelin will almost always be pointed at your opponent's face, or the job would have gotten done with Incinerate anyway. Since Ram-Gangs are a non-negotiable part of the maindeck, there simply isn't room for the additional 3-drops except in specific situations.

Nameless Inversion: Nameless Inversion is a lynchpin card in this deck- it admittedly is less versatile than a number of other cards that could replace it (i.e., most burn). However, what it does is serve as Elemental 13-16 and Goblin 9-12, which enables the REST of your deck to be much, much faster. To play Bladewhirl at its maximum efficiency, you really want more than 15 elementals, so unless you have a suggestion to meet that count in another way without playing bad cards, Inversion gets the job done well.

Keldon Megaliths: Keldon Megaliths is a bad card. We talked about it for several pages a while back, and came to the conclusion that Ghitu Encampment is just better unless you're playing something akin to 40 burn cards. As should be clear, this is not that kind of deck.

Heartlash Cinder: Yes, I know he looks small, but I have found in testing that he accounts for more damage over the course of his lifespan than Keldon Marauders- he very often comes down as a 4/1 or better, and swings immediately; I've had him drop as an 8/1 before, in a stalled game, and that drop sealed the game for me.

1:You don't need bladewhirl. Mogg fanatic and maniac work fine.
2:It can't it the dome. It is bad in this deck.
3:No, it is one of the best cards available to fast red. If you have mana available to activate ghitu, you should be playing out your hand.
4:He is way, way to small.

    Go on...

1:If you don't fling the quillspike, a blocker will stop it
2:You can see it coming from a mile away
    3:The druid doesn't have haste
4:Both of them are weak on their own.

I haven't even come close to losing to it yet. It may take only two cards, but it's super easy to stop at almost any point.

Figure of Destiny is absolutely not playable in RDW right now, given the other options we have at one mana. Tattermunge Maniac, Mogg Fanatic, Flamekin Bladewhirl, and I would even say Duergar Assailant are all better than he is. Here's the decklist I'm going to be running after EVE becomes legal, now that we have the whole set spoiled:

The deck is blisteringly fast (it can represent a 9-11-point attack on turn 3 with a great deal of consistency- T1 Maniac or Bladewhirl, T2 Stigma Lasher, T3 Heartlash Cinder OR T1 Maniac/Bladewhirl, T2 2 Maniac/Bladewhirl OR Heartlash Cinder, T3 Heartlash Cinder & whatever, OR T1 Maniac/Bladewhirl, T2 any dude in the deck, T3 Ram-Gang). It runs 16 Elementals, so Bladewhirl should always be droppable for :symr:. Further, it's also got 12 Goblins, which is the threshold for Auntie's Hovel to be reliable. Best of all, it has all this plus the magnificent Shadow Guildmage, which can lock games out on his own, at almost no cost, opportunity or otherwise.

I'm very, very happy with this build. It's even relatively budget, given the horrendous infusion of rare duals in the format.

Flame javelins should be main deck

Nameless inversion should be replaced with burn

Keldon megaliths is ten times better than ghitu encampment.

I don't like heartlash cinder at all.

Wikipedia says two table spoons a day are good for you, so today I added two table spoons to my pizza buns and cooked them at 375 farenheit.

Is that kind of the right thing to do with the oil?

I'm running this, and aside from maybe switching tarmogoyf for lasher and magus for ram-gang based on meta, I think this is the optimal main deck

    4 tattermunge maniac
    4 mogg fanatic
    4 stigma lasher
    4 blood knight
    4 boggart ram-gang

    4 flame javelin
    4 puncture blast
    4 rift bolt
    4 incinerate
    4 shock

    3 keldon megaliths
    17 mountain

The burn is so strong I don't have to burn creatures nearly as often.

Monored has this card called Everlasting Torment...

Everlasting torment is trash compared to stigma lasher. It doesn't do any damage.

I don't get where people are getting the idea that it won't land an attack, most red decks pack 16 burn, mine run 20. Most of the time it will FORCE you to remove it or lose 4-11 life to it's ability by no longer being able to use primal command and/or finks as the answer all.
