Honestly , i felt that it was strange that noone was talking baout the deck some months ago when it got pretty decent numbers on goldfish...
From what i heard a SFM unban would be pretty good in this deck

TY , it was more or less what i thought , I will try to get the deck in christmas , so we can all hope together something good in the new GRN set...

My experience playing vs hardened scales is as ponza , so I'm not sure , but in theory the deck autoloses to stony silence, maybe use other. Settle the wreckage could be spicy.

I understand the the idea behind cutting relics , Has your win% changed a lot vs dredge and other graveyard decks? I like the idea of this deck being pretty good vs aggro. How tend to be your matchups vs midrange or combo?

I have been very happy playing 2 bolts and 2 abrades. It works pretty good vs humans and blowing up randoms artifacts is awesome , but im still keeping bolts for reach and the 1 cmcs cost. Sometimes i can keep lands with no acceleration if i have bolts to curve.

The idea of playing the card was that i needed a way to kill hollow ones , tarmogoyfs and big eldrazis. As we ar aiming to play 3 mana spells on turn 2 I treated it as 2.5 mana spell.
Another problem is that we flood out a lot in the late and we do not want to draw dead cards. So i want to have all the mana sinks i can. I haven't tested a lot. Mainly against death and taxes(friends deck). It was pretty good in the last fnm as additional removal vs merfolk and humans. And i have wrathed a few boards and oneshoted opponents(10 damge to the face is a lot).
I still need testing in control games... Bonus point is being a very good BBE hit in creature matchups(You can also kick it paying additional 6 mana)

Right now I'm using that manabase , but with only 7 fetch(I have to buy the last but i keep spending the money in other things...)im playing with 2 mountains 1 stomping ground 1 cinder glade . Can be very good when i dont want to shock myself and the extra mountain can be very good vs the ghost quarter decks.

Anyways since i cut the molten rains the mana feels way better because my first doble red card is chandra and i dont need to fetch very aggresively.

Now im playing 2 abrade and 2 bolts , it feels very good blowing up random artifacts. Im also testing some fight with fire in place of some ld is a good cascade a kills a lot of difficult treaths. I have used the kicker a few times to wrath my opponent board or kill him , feels pretty good.

I like new versions playing around 4 bolts , i have been really liking the card.
Right now im looking to get some scoozes mainboard, lowering the curve may be a good idea...

Similarly, I'm considering Tarmogoyf MB to lower the curve. Easily a 4/5 at least for 2 CMC. Possibly remove BBE, as I don't think she's really that good in our deck...cascading into a mana dork or Utopia Sprawl feels bad and they make up ~40-50% of the possible targets she can hit. That's a pretty high degree of variance.

I'd definitely keep the big hitters though. It's why we run 10 dedicated ramp sources in the deck. A resolved Inferno Titan has to be answered before you untap, as it can spiral very quickly out of hand.

IMO, Goyfs are the right call, in addition to Noble Hierarchs. Noble's exalted trigger gives added utility to BoP and isn't a complete dud if cascaded into. This was briefly discussed around the time BBE was unbanned, but a lot of folks considered Ponza a budget option and forking over the cash for a set of Goys/Hierarchs was out of the question for many. However, with both cards being reprinted in UMA, running a build with Goyfs/Hierarchs will be much less cost prohibitive, at least during the first few weeks of set release.

Hierarchs arent played because we want double red in turn 2 and it doesnt help, we alsco cant control the size of our goyfs. I think people played the noble ponza variant and it wasnt very good

I dont think we can make a big enough tarmogoyf to be relevant by ourselves...
If we lower the cuerve a bit , BBE should be better because she would have better hits , or at least less dorks...

Not really a fan of hazoret's monument, feels a bit as a bad manarock , not all of our creatures are red , ithink we would be better with sharkan and focusing on dragons...

-People seems to like pia and kiran , but what are your thoughts about huntmaster. Its my pet card so i dont trust my opinion...

Ponza dosnt have anything that really needs the fetch/shock land base. (Unlike decks like jund, deathshadow, hollow one ect) no delve no goyf or revolt (Puch) and it's not aggro so land thining isn't an issue. The only card that's effected is tireless tracker and not by a huge amount.
If you went for 7-8 forest and the rest duel lands you shouldn't have many mana fixing issue (duels just become mountains with blood moon around) and these you can do with pains, checks and some other budget options.

That's the thing about modern in general everything (except some (not all but some) tier 1 decks fold to a archytype). So that's really not an argument and werewolves are fast if built properly, and should have a better chance against big mana than most midrange decks (also almost all mid range decks could to big mana decks). And if they are folding to combo quite frankly that is 100% what the SB is and Evey deck folds to combo without proper sideboards.
If you build for your meta not a gp meta that you honestly shouldn't have a problem. Modern is more about skill and playing the meta than most people realise. And there is no best deck and Evey decks has another that just destroys it.
Anyway the place that werewolves are bad isn't against big mana or control (you matchup against these is about the same as any other agressive deck) the matchup you'll stuggel with its stuff like esper control and Mardu pyromancer l, as control is able to play stuff instant speed and has a large number of boardwipes. But against these are made to prey on creture based decks.

Try to keep in mind you will never have a tier 1 deck on a budget in modern. You will be competing against decks that cost up to 1.5k more than your, and people don't pay that money because they like the art (some do but they are rare) they do it because it wins more and means they do less to win. As a budget player you will just have to be a better player, most deck can beat others and there is a fair amount of skill and probability involved. And you can use these to get wins from people especially if they are play expensive decks and don't know how to deal with your janky budget deck.

(The only tournaments I ever won and didn't loose a single round was when I build a completely home brew jank $150 version of restore balance to a meta filled with midrange creature decks, I won because I played the meta and my opponents didn't know who to deal with it, after that they all read up and changed there SBs and were waiting for it the next time (I now only bring it out once Evey 2-3 months to keep them on there toes).
I hope this makes sense and it not just rambling, but your playing a budget deck manage your expectations and don't try and out value your opponent in obvious ways (the cards that do that are the expensive ones) try building a deck you enjoy playing and learning to SB and be creative and flexible to your meta.

very nice article , you convinced me , I'm going to build ponza and customize to the meta, it seems very fun and i really want to play the bloodbraid elf.
Thanks for the write-up. I was very worried about getting into modern and you really helped me.

I think i could build a ponza decklist withouth the good manabase , but i'm not sure if the deck would suffer a lot withouth reliable forests...
I tried RG werewolves buying some olders ones for around 20$ but everyone says that thay are terrible and folds horribly to big mana and combo
