Love his synergy with Ephara. Basically unless he's immediately dealt with, you're getting a card, possibly as early as opp's turn 3 if you're on the play.
They just keep throwing these boss uncommons at us. I can't believe it. They are making the mythics and rares look like utter crap. Gogo uncommons! You will make the set live in in our hearts forever.
This, 100%. I have this weird suspicion we're going to get like one completely busted mythic instead of 3-5 good ones. I'm not entirely disappointed, the uncommons are getting better and better.
More confirmation that limited will be great for this set, unlikely to be competitive with such a narrow subtype unless we see several other overpowered Minotaurs. Edgewalker was amazing because there were tons of great Clerics, not because Edgewalker was amazing.
112.6k An ability whose cost or effect specifies that it moves the object it's on out of a particular zone functions only in that zone, unless that ability's trigger condition, or a previous part of that ability's cost or effect, specifies that the object is put into that zone. Example: Necrosavant says "{3}{B}{B}, Sacrifice a creature: Return Necrosavant from your graveyard to the battlefield. Activate this ability only during your upkeep." A player may activate this ability only if Necrosavant is in his or her graveyard.
What Mogis really needs to push him over the edge are cheap in-devotion-color permanents that aren't creatures.
As-is, you've got Hammer of Purphoros, Underworld Connections, Chandra Pyromancer, but not much else.
A simple BR enchantment artifact that did something useful would change the way he's useful completely. This is the challenge with evaluating cards with a myopic view of the set.
No **** sherlock. And let me tell you one thing, it wasn't mogis that achieved this board state!
Certainly not all on it's own, but why not on the whole? Mogis can become a creature pretty quickly with a good disruption package to keep him in devotees, and forces the opponent to thin their herd or take damage at no other cost to you than the CMC. Accumulated card advantage is still card advantage. I like to think of him more as a finisher card. If opp is at 10 life, he's either going to be a clock or an alpha strike.

t2 frostburn weird
t3 nightveil specter
t4 mogis, attack for 2 (18)
opp trigger lose a guy or take two (16/18)
t5 gray merchant for 6 (10/12), attack for 9 with mogis and specter
opp trigger lose a guy or take two
Yeah, very loose magical christmas land, but if you factor those colors' removal options, disruption options and more, I'm actually liking this guy more than my initial impressions led me to feel about him. Wouldn't take much to push him into the spotlight with a consistent trigger every turn that requires no other cards.
It's the kind of inevitability these colors like, but honestly I'm having trouble seeing this guy really knock it out of the park in standard. Punisher mechanics are usually not optimal for players looking to win matches, and it's going to take a while for this guy to do anywhere near as much damage as Purphoros kicks out. Opp isn't going to sac their best guy unless it's their only choice.
My hope is that we see more non-aura enchantments for B/ that help support this guy. It seems like it could be good, but it's going to take some work to secure that against most competitive decks.
I don't think the dual gods have nearly as much appeal simply for the fact that splashing another color weakens the strength of devotion inherently. Not to say that it makes it unplayable (I play W/U Devotion), but it certainly takes away from consistency.
Sorry this is just not true - Multicolor cards routinely are more hard colored based, and more substantially boost devotion. See all Rav hybrids being used in mono decks, Detention Sphere, Lev Skyknight, etc. All the things that boost U and or W will work here, so it's easier to hit. That's why it costs 7 for the demigods in the first place.
Whelming Wave on the upside is amazing, maybe Grixis has some legs now.

Come on BotG, where's the sauce?

From a "stoked as hell about rad powerful cards!" perspective, this is a sad lot, save Drown In Sorrow. Here's hoping we see some bombs soon.
Agreed, but when you don't have those cards to evaluate, and a lot of hype surrounding new designs, that just isn't what happens.

Couched in a Mono R splash B aggro deck, agreed, however BRW Control/Midrange would prefer Mogis for it's virtual card advantage.
