Went 3-1 at a local event today. On Lingering Jund still. Deck felt great. R1 I beat a not great storm player who hadn't played in a while. Round 2 I lost to burn. Matchup felt real bad even with 3 cb and a finks. Game 1 I barely lost to a spell-heavy hand. Game 2 I mulled to 4 and got mutilated. Then I beat BW tokens 2-0. Game 1 was a grind but I won without much trouble. Game 2 I was way behind to 4 souls and a sorin on 6. Then I went BBE into dreadbore and it was GG after that. So dirty. Then I played against jund and mopped it up like the deck s supposed to. He couldn't handle souls and even Ajani Vengeant did work. Here is the list:
// 5 Sorcery
SB: 2 Collective Brutality
SB: 1 Anger of the Gods

Honestly, the list felt great. The burn match was pretty unlucky and right now I think it's 70-30 in their favor preboard and like 55-45 in their favor post. But It is winnable. Not much I'd change about the list at the moment and total, I am currently 22-9 with it so I'm pretty happy with an >70% win rate.
I must say that 25 lands build has been quite punishing for me. At first it was fine but now it got worse. It's most notable when both me and my opponent are hellbent and I need something (good) to draw, in this case I draw land most of the time, including multiple in a row. It could be that I'm a bit unlucky which I am tbh (I'm not very lucky at Magic) but this happened to me much less when I was on 24 lands.
I'm not saying that 25 less is wrong because of that but it's definitely something to take into account when playing 25 lands and when comparing both (24 and 25) land build.
Inherently, Jund's strength is in its topdecks. I've never like running 25 lands because while you may get mana screwed less, you're also topping into lands more often. I would rather get screwed on mana 5% more and topdeck better
4-1'd another modern league with Lingering Jund. Beat BR Hollow one, UB Control, Humans, and Dredge and lost to Lantern on 3 gamesaving whir topdecks in a row followed by double codex shredder to find pithing needle to cut off lily ult to get rid of bridge in game 3. Some of the most insane draws I've ever seen in My 12 years of playing magic. This was after he toppdecked a thoughtseize to save himself in game 1. In any case, outside of that nonsense, the deck has been incredible and I am currently 18-8 with it on Modo.
Have you had mana issues yet? Not in context with BM or FoR, but generally, playing with the deck.
None at all honestly. The mana has worked out extremely well. It's actually durward's exact manabase -1 ravine. replacing the mires with flats and adding a plains has helped a ton.

that's why you play 5 basics. So far, I have had 0 issues with field of ruin. Moon has hurt but it always does when it comes down on T2 from Ponza. Souls makes up for being slightly weaker against Moon. Try it before you judge it mang

So a few things; yes I'm playing 5 basics. I think basics are extremely good right now and I haven't missed the eighth fetch. The mire is there to help balance the W from godless shrine. Lingering souls has made up sooooo much ground in certain matches and has already won me multiple games by itself. The drawbacks are mainly just that I am down a LOTLH, bolt, and I moved the seizes to the board. But I don't miss any of that too much. So far, I am 10-5 in competitive MODO leagues. I've actually faced a fair amount of rough matchups and I've been winning them. I don't think I could go back to regular jund again honestly.

I get that point. he isn't great against aggro. but he's the tits against pretty much everything else. and if you're running solemn in his place, is he really gonna give you any percentage points vs aggro? Jace at least can bounce a key creature or draw 3 cards and find an o stone or ugin and soak up some damage game 1. we're talking about the best planeswalker every printed...in a blue deck...there's no reason to not run at least 1 while changing our 2 land destruction lands to field of ruins to get some shuffle effects. He is better than gifts by a mile, and he is better than solemn. the rest of the deck doesn't need to change to accommodate.
For reference, here is my list:
// 60 Maindeck
// 10 Artifact
1 Chalice of the Void
1 Engineered Explosives
4 Expedition Map
1 Oblivion Stone
2 Mindslaver
1 Talisman of Dominance
// 24 Land

4 Island
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
1 River of Tears
1 Tolaria West
4 Urza's Mine
4 Urza's Power Plant
4 Urza's Tower
2 Snow-Covered Island

// 2 Planeswalker

1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
// 15 Sideboard
// 2 Artifact

SB: 1 Engineered Explosives
I'm very happy with this and don't really feel like any of it needs changing until the meta shakes out. I do believe that you need at least 2x chalice and 2x EE in the 75 right now. I think remand is sneaky good right now and got better post jace.
For people *****ting on Jace, the idea is to run him as a flex slot. it's a 1 of and no more. you don't want to cast him on t4. ideally, you cast him later with a wurm in play to refuel your hand, bounce a blocker, or cut off topdecks. it has been brilliant for me so far and i don't intend to cut him. But that's me. Solemn is fine too. But jace's ceiling is much higher. Jace has won me multiple games online already as he also acts as another win con with slaver lock going.
I could see that if you're playing 3-4 jace but just 1 doesn't really justify this. Oboro is also great for getting UU. And if you think about it, the deck plays 4 map, 1 tolaria west, and 2 mages together with academy ruins to get back maps, all of which shuffle.
This is a slower metagame right now so negate is better. In faster metas with low to the ground decks, I think pierce is better. But I prefer negate RN. The other thing is that sometimes you wanna chalice on 1 against control to cut off paths and cantrips. When you do that, you can't play pierce. And you're right, there's not much room. That's why I'll probably stick with 1 jace. It was the solemn/gifts flex spot and jace is just so much better at doing what those two cards do. Two is probably overkill tho. I think 1 is perfect. Spyglass is the flex in my board rn. I wanna see how it works but may cut it for the 3rd contortion or something similar if aggro is on the rise.
Well i just went 4-1 in a comp league with the list I posted on the previous page. I SHOULD have 5-0'd if it weren't for a massive punt game 3 against jund in my 5th match. So I'd just count it as me going 5-0 haha
v. Eggs 2-1 Jace was amazing here. I slavered him G2 and sac'd all his ***** with slaver then jace ult'd
v. Affinity 2-1 close match here but engines saved the day
v. Jund 2-0 Crushed it. not much to say
v. UB Control 2-0 Crushed again. Jace was incredible. game 2 I ended the game with 30 life, an engine in play, and a jace at 7 and an ugin at 9. He had 0 nonland permanents. It was sicknasty.
v. Jund 1-2 PUNT PUNT PUNT I cracked under pressure here. Game 1 i destroyed like we always do. Game 2 he drew 3/3 fulms 3 turns in a row and then bought one back with a lili. needless to say, I died with 2 lands left. G3 was frustrating. he drew EVERY answer. k commanded elves twice, drew 3 total, drew his grudge on time against wurm. So at the end i'm at 11 and he's at 5 i condescend and see a mine and ugin on top. I miscount lands because the clock is ticking down and i bottom the land i need. draw ugin, he plays lily and makes me discard it. if i draw the land first and play it, he plays lily, I go down to 6 and win off ugin next turn. SIGH.
In any case, some observations:
Our deck is VERY well positioned right now and it felt fantastic. the one of Jace is staying for sure. he was ******* FANTASTIC. he wone me at least 3 games by himself. I want to make room for a 2nd but unsure what to cut. For now, I like my list and wouldn't change anything. the spyglass in the board is nice to have because of all the lilies and jaces running around. it also hits key cards in other matchups like karn or inkmoth. Wurmcoil engine continues to be an allstar and slaver is quite good right now. I won a few games off the back of sundering titan so that answers that. Negate was also great and I really like having it as a clean answer in control/midrange matchups. All in all I am VERY happy with my list and i should have 5-0d if I didn't crack under clock pressure. List again below for reference:

Here's where I'm at right now. I feel like 5 discard plus a brutality is correct. Going with a 3/2 IOK TS split because we want to be ready for the aggro wave that will surely pop up to go under jace. 24 lands seems fine and 25 seems excessive to me. I really like my sideboard right now. It may change depending on what happens with aggro decks but it feels perfect against control. my other thoughts are if i want a 2nd push and terminate and right now, I'm unsure on that too.
