In reply to kolayhe (Apologies on the delay)

In truth I'm not that active in the over all community so I didn't know this sort of thing was such an issue, rather I just wanted to share a why not idea although I'm not going to argue over it. Rather I'll move onto address some of your other points made. I agree some of the best characters aren't planes walkers, Also that yes sometimes it is indeed best to kill a character off in their prime than force them to live on, however I challenge you to this and that is the fact Hazoret (although minus a arm) still lives in a scene where it could have been so incredibly easy to of killed her off from poison after the fight, if what you said is true then why is she still alive? The reason is unclear as perhaps they wanted a small happy as it could be end, perhaps they have plans, or perhaps they plan to kill her off later as apart of Samut story line. The only reason I decided to why not write up this idea is because she was alive where your examples of Avacyn and Yahenni died off in the stories (so honestly your examples aren't the best because it's different cases here.) Over all I agree not everyone should be a planes walker like that, but here I least offer an support reason more than 'hey they became a planes walker' which I'll be honest really was no need to of occurred with Samut as that is taking your logic and saying their needs to be a new plans walker in every set even if it isn't the best, that is my opinion of course.

Now here on Samut how ever is where I wish to counter you (as your statement there I must point out also goes against your opener opinion of killing off characters) though the point I wish to make is that your view point is missed aimed. Explaining this, yet they fleshed Samut out as a character but if you read the story all of that character was build up towards making her a not believer of Bolas and her relation to other plane bound characters such as her friends and gods, etc. It was build up to a climax sense then passed and not a whole lot of development was made for her as a character past Amonketh as is seen with her choice to stay with her people instead of leaving with her new planes walker abilities. She is fixed with her people and I'm fine keeping her there, although if there were to bring her around as a character it would most likely be a similar case of my offered Hazoret idea, just trade places and make Samut the survivor to then go on. Which then goes into your view point of "Better to die as a well developed character than live on as a below average name pasted on paper a few times without any meaningful progression, simply to please a couple of fans of the initial idea long ago" as Samut was developed to her point with no prep seen past it now that it has passed. I believe this to be like your case examples of Avacyn and Yahenni, who were both developed chararters that ended up ending, the point being I see samut in the same boat as them only that she's alive and they aren't, but even so it would be the same thing and that being pushing characters past their prime; I believe Samut's prime has passed just like how Avacyn and Yahenni both had times in the story and they moved onto end all the same. Although I would of supported and believed you in that they (Wizords) wouldn't kill her off after just making her into a planeswalker (in fact the first draft of this idea had Samut live ,but that was just an bad idea) though in my opinion it would be better to kill her off than bring her around again. It can't be denied how ever that both her and Hazoret live, and living characters and not other wise dead ones do leave doors open to future pick up plots should they occur, this idea is in part just an idea of a path some of those said plots could take say 5-10 years from now, but again it's also just an fan idea and really nothing much more than that here.

Although a point you may like to hear, I wrote this before the whole Jace and Vraska thing really started to take off, and in truth this idea for Hazoret was aimed towards a long path goal of filling a missing core combat role that is missing with in the gate watch (aka they need a focused non magic but physical fighting DPS that's only DPS and not half tank or half healer, that would also make out to be a more interesting character). Now with Vraska and Jace developments so far, simply put if things go right and take a certain path I much rather Vraksa develops into the role than Hazoret at this point and I'll shoot down my own idea and confess that would be more interesting than thus Hazoret idea.

p.s. As noted I'm not to deep into the magic community (rather new into it in truth), So your point with said "creators" made at the start of your edit does interest me, if you don't mind could you quote the said creator(s) words on the subject directly or link me to the one(s) direct article on the manner who made this announcement? I would appreciate it. Further who is this most famous authors to date you quoted before as I would like to know their name so I can look into more of their work (though by their quote alone it has me guessing it's the writer for Game of Thrones, I'm just saying.)

I'll be honest I like the idea of Samut being killed off and Hazoret taking her spark more than keeping the two alive, the only reason I didn't press for that story line more is because I assume wizards wouldn't kill Samut off and set her up for the role I rather Hazoret would instead take simply because they decided to make her into a planes walker. Still I should update this into the main post as a second what if path things could take and not leave it in the comments from before, but Thanks for the feed back because in all honesty I agree with you having both is over kill and it would be better to have just one.

This can be true, how ever or least with my idea above, if she is involved in the story in that sort of way as you suggest with the planar bridge and not transformed down into a planes walker (also known as toning her down a little to a even playing field with all other planes walkers and not as a god) I feel that it would be worst off for her character and not better, further still in that state she is a guardian of her people so if they are still around she wouldn't be going anywhere either. So yes she can possibly serve a role in the story with out this idea, I just feel it wouldn't be a good way to go about it in that sense and would be missing out on a lot of opportunity to make something more out of her character.

Thank you for your reply! I’m glad to elaborate on all of this, but first to agree as you said at the start, I enjoyed Amonkhet’s story line for many of the same reasons and more, and agree perhaps it was indeed intended to only be made to show how Bolas sucked everything out of the world. Though getting to the replies, starting off with the first note of how their could be other bastions of civilization and a possible rebuilding if they did continue with the story from there, I don’t believe to be the case. As for my reasons why, a rebuild would be fun but not possible, noted multiple times by Nissa in many chapters of the Amonkhet story line she noted how the plane was dying, how she could not sense anything else but death over the plane except for the one city that was now destroyed, and for the final nail in the planes coffin how at the end she finally understood how the plane had given into bolas and was his. Further the one note from bola’s initial invasion their was no exceptions made in the line where he killed all mortals old enough to walk on the plane as a strike at the gods, if this is the case any other pockets of life out there I would assume were also hit in a AOE of the whole world as it didn’t note any exceptions or any exclusions anywhere else but used the word all, further still as he never noted setting up care for the surviving kids anywhere else, it is safe to assumed even if their was life elsewhere it is over all dead, as morbid as that is. Far as a power I doubt this as well as I’m sure bolas would of already had it for many possible reasons. Plot wise the plane is done, so I came up with the Hazoret idea as a why not. If it is worked back in it most likely would only be for a brief note of moving his army out and the plane dyeing off from there.

Your next point is a great one to bring up, but I do have some logic for it, in my opinion anyways. Starting first with the second half of your reply, yes she was under bola’s control before, but in the betrayal of Bontu a small line was dropped how that mind whipe and control was dropped and Hazoret was able to see what she once was and how cruel his sick joke was in how he changed her. In that moment it also implied that her old self was restored, one that can hold more emotion and care as is briefly seen to towards the end. Sure she was a little stoic but now that she is free from Bolas’s corruption and has re-found her true purpose protecting and serving her people (if with my idea temporarily) it’s a great starting slate to build up her emotions and character, if done correctly it can be woven into a great chapter leading to the build up of everything dyeing and she losing everything before being whisked away after all her ties were broken. This leads greatly into your first point as for the death of Hazoret’s brothers and sisters, being the only god left, also the betrayal all not igniting her spark before, as you noted she is a leader of her people, the people and the plane are what bind her to the plane and is her purpose per say. I strongly feel that the people is what binds her still, once they are all gone and died this sense of lost from both her people and the plane to also dyeing and disconnecting her, as she is connected to it, would be a very strong surge of emotions I feel is the right combination to at that time then ignite her spark, that or as a good idea that was sparked from a comment above, perhaps absorbing samut’s spark if she died with in the same time near Hazoret. A example to explain this, as in a sense Hazoret is a god or construct of the plane as Nissa noted they were made up of laylines, as a comparison when you unplug a mech suite all your left with is the operator per say, as for why I can see the idea that once all is gone and the plane was dead we can then possibly be left with a regular ,mortal, full black fur jackal Hazoret which at the same split second of everything happening promptly planes walk away from the gone plane with her newly ignited spark, or possibility taken/absorbed from a dead Samut (as shown with Karn it is possible for a non being to get a spark in that sort of way) and from there continue on as a new character sense all she stood for before was whipped away, leaving a great foundation to build something with her. You said it yourself there is a lot of gray area, which means a lot of room for flexibility, if this idea is worked out and done right it has the chance to grow into something great in a gray not explored area of magic before, which I find to be a exciting idea ,but then again that is just my opinion and not everyone does or has to share it.

I Also enjoy reading the speculation as I enjoyed the story. I'm also interested to see if Wizards ever goes back to the plane someday most likely way in the future and as for why, it’s just part of me hoping they could make more of Hazoret sense it seems she is at the end of the line as it stands and in my opinion would be a shame to see her go after everything. In my opinion they could of easily killed her off but they let her live, perhaps they have plans or most likely they don’t, as I said this is just to get the idea out there as who knows maybe it sparks an idea for something, we’ll just have to wait and see.

I agree to this as yes there is a little potional left, although in my opinion at most that may make for one or two chapters before the end occures. I don't want to see the plane die either, but at the same time through out the magic story line of Amonketh it was hinted and noted time and time again how in bad shape and dying the plane was. Further nissa noted how she felt most of the world's remaining mana being drawn to that city which is now destroyed, and how little to none existed outside of it. I like a happy ending, but realistically the odds of one there is extreamly low survival wise, Bolas did an good job of screwing over the plane here.

The way I had planned to akowlage this was through a semi loop hole of logic, that being (unless I'm mistaken) it's not known what happens to a god when their plane dies, so I was thinking when it occurred it brakes her connection to it and makes her into a normal sapient mortal, thus allowing the chances for a spark. Another idea similar to Karn and just to note it is perhaps Samut does die and Hazoret on accident gets her spark some how by some event. I just left the idea open around her living in the example above as I doubted they (wizards) wanted to kill her off, but I'm just saying it could be another loophole on that front and a second chance for Hazoret's character to continue on with trying to help others and now do good when she then wouldn't be able to help her own people any more.

    Thanks for the feedback though!

    (In reply to Gutterstorm)

Well, in truth that is kind of why I got the spark for this idea, odds for a revisit to Amonkhet do seem to be very low, making a character a planes walker does spike the odds of that person showing up a lot more. I'm not exactly upset over it, but I already kind of hold that opinion. A good example I can give for this (if i recall correctly) is with chandra, just the story line before she re found her mother ane promisses to go back and visit, etc. Then fast forwards to the show down with bolas she was ready for a 'take him down with me' approach with out a second thought back to her death and how hurt her mother would be, kind of showing that characters bound to a plane are for the most part in one ear out the other sadly, not for all but for most as a over all.

You do bring up a very good points there that I support but also kills my own idea to, Much as I want to see more of Hazoret's character, a chain reaction like that would also be the last thing I want occurring to. As you're right, if they did it for one then many may want it done for all. Thus killing and defeating the idea and point of making this occurrence unique.

That is fair there to, I also got the same impression as for why I went with the supporting idea of the plane dying to then support this idea I was suggesting.

    Thanks for your feedback though!

    [Beforehand note]

As for the idea I wished to suggest about Hazoret's character from where things last ended on Amonkhet, I did want to pre-note that it is a bit of a text wall and a long suggestion that is chained on a few what ifs cases (that I now split into two what if chain idea lines) though I’m more or less guessing at what may to what could happen (which I explain out), but that is why I went ahead and wrote out the main idea bellow as to make things easier before diving into it. Also, I wish to make note that this is just an suggestion from a fan of the Magic the gathering series and all of it’s stories that come with it, this is just a open idea to pass along that I feel could add much to the story and not take away from it. As for wanting to get it out there and get everyone's opinion on it and not just my own. Further there is lots of good, constructive criticism as well notes that were made in the comments bellow that point out goods points and such, do give them a read as Well if you have the time, but with that I'll get into explaining my idea.

    [Main Idea] (edited/updated)

Now with all of that said, this is the main bulk of the idea, although without all the walls of explaining text bellow mixed in it, as to get the main idea across first before I go into supporting my explanations. So the core idea of this Hazoret suggestion is first revolving/starting around where things left off with Hazoret's Character last, leading her people into the desert for hopes of a new beginning, etc. Though it’s a bit cruel, Amonkhet doesn’t seem to have plot value left to it (that I can see) or least from this anyways, so I can’t see a happy beginning happening. Instead this idea plays off that Hazoret did her best to protect and lead her remaining people, but after a while and with too much of the plane dying off, everyone including Samut end up dyeing despite Hazoret’s best efforts, the world was to far gone and to cruel for life anymore. Now I can’t say what Wizards may have in mind to do with Samut sense it was already made that she was a Planeswalker, but Hazoret on the other hand isn’t. Yet that is where this idea comes in, my later points I make can easily be filled by Samut, but this idea more or less replaces the what if of Samut with Hazoret instead. With that I wanted to suggest with the fading away of her people, at the end samut is among the last to die on the dying plane, Hazoret at the lkost of her people and her peropous gets her plains walker spark while heavy grief by taking Samut’s on accident (Similar to Karn in a way) also can add due to the acquiring of a spark as well possible small amounts of linguring poison weakening her and such, this causes her to loses most if not all of her god hood and most of it’s powers with it (becoming a normal jackal and balancing her out to the level of other planes walkers) then at some point ( in the long run way in the future) she finds the gate watch again and joins their quest against Nicol Bolas (most likely this won’t take effect for a while story wise, in terms of real time this could be an idea saved for years from now once the gate watch had recovered from their lost the last time they faced Bolas.)

Now to support with how this idea may even work or be possible, I first acknowledge that I don’t know what Wizard’s plans are with Magic’s in depth and long on going story, So I do take some guesses to explain this idea along ,but if anything is incorrected or invalid, I apologias in advance and so I’ll also leave my offer ideas a bit open and flexible and not locked or set in stone to a lot of detail of exact scenes or something like that.
(Side note it is easy to instead say Samut is alive with her and Hazoret gets her own spark as another what if path, but the death of Samut and acquiring her spark does seem like a better route than keeping Samut alive.)

[shift from god to planeswalker, elaborated]

Around the ending of Amonkhet, Hazoret was last seen leading her people off towards the hope of a new rebuilding and hopeful future, swearing to protect them while she still drew breath. It was as nice of an ending as was possible at the time, however this does leave her open to further work and I honestly don’t see anything else becoming of this story line from that point. Plot wise with Amonkhet Lilana’s third demon there is now dead, the events with Bolas already happened, and the plain its self was more or less dying and ready to implode and kill it’s self as is and more so now as Nissa noted with how most of the worlds mana from what she saw was already more or less dead. So from my understanding there is nothing left to really occur here and the chances of Hazoret rebuilding with her people in such a deadly waste land that was lacking mana does seems near impossible on the dying plane. So that leads me to suggest the sad idea that will end up being the starting core for building up Hazoret’s as a new character, the events up to her losing her god title and taking up that of a planes walker instead. That starting part being the idea that yes everyone does truly die. Hazoret does her best to protect and serve her people, but as hinted at in recent story lines (Ixalan) to compare time from the events of her starting out with her people to the time now with where Jace currently stands getting his memory back is at about seven months in passed time already, if I recall correctly? Realistically Hazoret isn’t a god of resources and leading people in waste lands that are very deadly without sources of food, water, or reliable and safe shelter with a limiting to no supplies of mana, further still from her last battle weakening her over time by leaving her poisoned minorly (elaborated later on), and a even further fact that the lands are extremely deadly in and of themselves, leads me to support that in seven months or less time even I see her truly becoming the only survivor on Amonkeht. As for why and how the plots unfold to this, can be left open and flexible to be worked out more (Though I suggest it should be events of the plane with sand wurm and undead attacks reducing numbers and not an bolas attack or something like that, further that a scene occurs that makes it where Samut dies at the end of the plane but not Hazoret’s and perhaps Hazoret gets Samut’s spark).

The main part would be leading up to the end where the plane died off, with her being the only one left in it’s final moments. To set this up to that point the poison wouldn’t kill her (yes I know she cut her arm off to stop it in the story, though from the battle she was left in a weaken state so it could be stretched and said some still got thru that has been draining her god like powers slowly from then to the then now of the plane ending) but is a slow poison weakening her down, the death of her plane and her people being a flood of greif, and maybe a touching sad scene where Samut dies all lead up to causing Hazoret to under goes transitioning down into a not fully mortal yet no longer a god kind of state (her becoming a regular black fur jackal sort of deal). Now from here would be where all factors collide, the death of her god siblings’ months before, her people now, and then even her plane shortly after. A weakening god such as Hazoret then truly suffering and sub coming to a grief and despair, and in it with the timely death of Samut who has a planes walker spark, it ends up transferring over to Hazoret, the spark now igniting with in her heart then, both taking her away and saving her from the dying world she then no longer holds bonds to. (unsure how a plane would die, but I imagen it in a self-imploding then no longer existing kind of way, rumbling to dust then scattering in the wind of the multiverse.)

From here Hazoret would no longer be a god, as it could be said like the above the lost of her people ,world, and so forth would lead up to that moment she loses everything and became a Planeswalker. It can then lead her into a time where she has to adapt to being a more or less mortal, even if she still holds a little bit of her old powers and spells now as a planes walker, just lessened and limited. (more or less her becoming a planeswalker would be evening her out to the level of other planes walkers and not as a god planes walker, more like former god at that point.)

Although I can offer many ideas from this point, as well ways she can perhaps get her cut off arm back, it is quite open ended on what and how things occur from that point on and it is hard for me to guess what Wizards may want most from such an story line. If more story lines go on with her discovery and relearning/adapting of herself (Kind of like how Ajani went on after finding his planes walker spark) or if things go on a more direct route towards something else such as her re-finding and become apart of the gate watch, it could be any number of possibilities (though the longer route of self-discovery and development does seem like the better option)

    [Reasons to support/consider]

Although that’s the idea for a possibly good way to adapt the character further and refine her more into one to last instead of dropping her off as a character that had potional, but was never followed up on. I’d like to follow it up with some reasons why I want to support this idea, and believe it should be one to consider. (Also some what-if ideas noted regarding the gate watch is just one idea path, but doesn't have to be the path she takes either for a long term goal, just saying they are example notes if it were to go that way given the nature of the character)

    • To start off with, through out the Amonkhet story line we got to see Hazoret’s long ordeals of hard ships and corrupted times at the hands of Bolas, The turn of evens as suggested above leading her from being a god to a plains walker character servers as a decent base in many ways. The most upfront one being she then has a great and killer (if sad) back story of her up to the point of becoming a plains walker from being a former god who lost everything which brings a whole new perspective to the table and another powerful (if less so and one needing to train her strengths back up over time) type of ally the gate watch may need (at some point long into the future) in the growing struggle against Bolas, one with more reason to see him as a enemy and threat to all than most, and one who wishes to prevent the same fate her plane ended up with because of Bolas.

    • Secondly (unless I’m mistaken) this would make Hazoret the first ever jackal planes walker, which I think many could possibly become excited for and to see another non-human planes walker join onto the lists of planes walkers out there.

    • Third being a point that actually is seen a bit in Amonkhet’s story line with the arena scene, that being the gate watch doesn’t really have many true warriors like Hazoret (this is assuming Hazoret to the path of joining the gate watch) ,but the addition of Hazoret to the team would help to balance this out (Now I’ll also note that yes Samut could also fill that role easily and advoide all of this Hazoret idea if it occurs, and sure the gate watches has heroes such as Ajani [though he is becoming more of a pacifist to the healer role than warrior] and Gideon [who is more of a tank than DPS in my opinion, to put it in class terms) Hazoret in contrast is a true focused warrior and not a split of tank/warrior or healer/warrior. Someone who could still fight with extrema effectiveness if no magic was available like in that arena scene, and with even more effect with magic. She can even help to train up the others skills to by sharing her own styles of combat.

    • Further at forth though tied in with the third idea of Hazoret perhaps joining the gate watch (at some point long in the future) it adds more diversity to the group and broadens their skill sets even more. That and I would like to see a few less humans and more unique species join onto the team my self such as with Ajani, it adds a lot more unique details and points of view to the stories as scene with Ajani from funny notes about sheading fur to his details of keen hearing and smell. I for one would love to read from her point of view at times with her now as a planes walker and perhaps even as one that leads up to becoming apart of the gate watch over a long course of events and perhaps self re-discovery.

    • Fifth being semi tied onto the forth reason as well, but story wise I can see great potential with Hazoret’s character being in the gate watch, and I mean this for the small reasons. A god becoming more mortal means it can be a great open way to play her off in some funny scenes of that as an adult child of sorts (or equialy serious to as she has a wide point of view to a over all picture of things). For the comic side of things, sense there would be many things she is unfamiliar with and has to adapt and become accustom to it can lead to some interesting situations to sat the least. Now this point can be hard to explain as it relies a lot on what if and the situation, but I hope the basic idea of this fifth point makes some sense? To give a example, a awkward staring scene up to the point she realizes she can’t talk or see into people’s minds any more like a god would, causing her to actually have to ask about things or her being alien to a common custom or thing can be amusing to see followed by perhaps a bit of embarrassment on Hazoret’s part that also can be a good character building experience along the way and or with others, in a sense it sort of makes her like Nissa though with the addition of already being able to easily talk with others per say, but just socially awkward due to just not knowing others ways and it being different from that of a gods. Also the option to go down a path after she planes walks and her then thinking for a time that it was the after life and not another plane.

Lastly I want to add a quick side note for a 6th idea that's more marketing than anyhting, that being this idea can be revisited as a idea 4-8 years from now (depending how long it takes the gate watch to recover and be ready to face bolas again like in Amonketh, I'm assuming 6 years possabily [including ixalan as the start of this time line] but hard to tell) though with the addition that pulling from her character it can shines more light into the Amonketh series again when it may of faded away some over the years. More or less I mean in the way distant future it's a good way to plug the old set again. As I'll speak from my own experience least with the story's that go along with the set, where I wasn't into it before after reading the story's I went out and bought a lot of what was involved in said story. So it could be a good way to again show off the series and maybe get by then new people interested in some of the older by then sets again if they weren't before.

Now in truth I could go on a lot more about this idea and character design of a fallen from god to mortal planeswalker Hazoret, but it’s perhaps best I stop my self from saying to much and instead test and see about the idea it’s self before getting to far ahead of myself in suggestions and further ideas and more what if paths, if people like or want more of this semi rather out there idea I'll type more of it, and if not then it'll just stay as this idea of word text walls for now. In any case I thank you for your time in reading this. Again comments bellow build up a lot more upon this so if you have some more time please give them a read as well and leave your own comments to, I'm happy to hear them out in all forms.
