You can type out the name of the card (it's not case sensitive). Then highlight it and click the card icon. That will surround it in tags and display the image. HTML! And if clicking the card icon isn't an option for you on a phone, you can just surround the name with tags yourself.
Example:
<card>Name of Card</card>
Instead of <>, you must use []. I had to use those to show as an example.

Welp that's a thing...
Started our Modern Challenge at 0-2. Most streamers and content providers will just drop and move on. We stuck the course because we believe. We goofed on one of the decks and think we may have turned the corner. We were playing a 'sub-optimal' list as I believe, and this is a real time commitment to see how it pans out over a long day. That being said we came back from that 0-2 and finished 5-3 and reclaimed our entry fee.
Takeaway today:
Trading Post - If you show me this card I will happily trade you for it and spit it in two. Ugh... Revenged... making me ponder this Skullmead Cauldron. Hmmmm...
Also of note decks were I believe as follows:
- UR Control - Hi Keranos
- Eldrazi Tron. We did make a goat and shoot the goat to not have our opponent gain life from Wurmcoil. This was the ONLY activation that was different then gaining life.
- BR Pyromancer Shrapnel Blast?...?...
- Burn - Chalices win
- Goryo's Vengeance - We did use Trading Post to gain a lot of life but it was lock pieces that took this one.
- Burn - Struggled here and lost
- Merfolk - I'm so sorry opponent... Ensnaring both games, and an incoming Boil was end for them.
I'm missing one, if someone who tuned in knows what I missed share away.
Dog walk time! See ya guys later!
Edit:
Note we were playing a pretty sub-optimal list, which speaks to the core. If there is anything I talk about a lot is the core of this deck, which I believe we have all here (Especially Ray) established. 6 Moons, 4 Bridge, 4 Chalice, 4 D-Ritual, 1 P-Ritual, 4 SSG, 4 Rabble, 4 Chandra
That to me appears to be the core, along with 21 minimum lands. (53 cards) You essentially can then play the "Which 7 cards do I bring in Pre-board" and you move from there.

Raystack posted a message on Pyro Prison || Goblinized Mono-Red Control : The Sideboard DeckThat Burning Earth find is extraordinary, Russ. How has no one mentioned this card before? As a 4-cmc spell, it pairs up nicely with the heavy Eidolon of the Great revel approach. To the laboratory!Posted in: Control
As for welding jar, DjAguila, if only there were more than 15 slots in the SB, it'd be held in higher consideration. But, spellskite has more applications. I like the brainstorming from Zayl in regards to standing up to Mardu Tokens and Burn - Trading Post has always been a favorite card of mine. I don't think we run enough disposable artifacts - but we do warren out a lot goblins. In fact, a new BIG RED Pyro Prison list I'm testing has me back on Siege-gang Commander....4-for-1 baby and a shock machine. -

We've taken some great strides over the year of 2018, extreme brewing, and not taking 'no' for an answer. Russ put it well in a stream of mine, "You just do, no fear," and this is what MTGO has brought me that my FNM nor once a week games were bringing me, a chance to absolutely blow the lid off creative ideas, burn up in flames as they fail, or jam out the wins in the most hilarious but competitive fashion. If you have not realized from my mentality and posts here, I would classify myself as a Spike but don't be mistaken, I am the first to just jam "Omnithragdoorfire" at my local FNM, first to jam "Free Win Red," and first to jam "RallyFenza". The results of these over the past was Top 8 out of 70 player FNM with Omni, Top 8 at an IQ with RallyFenza, and a couple first places at FNM's with 20+ people.
Why do I say this, because there are two classifications of a Spike that I would like to introduce you to today. There is:
- Net Deck Spike - A person who likely grabs Top 8 decks at large events and plays the 'best deck'
- Pilots - This is where I classify myself. These are the people, that understand the lines, the outs, and the outs of their opponents. The one's that seem to call the cards off the top, when in reality they're naming what is their best draws. These are where the epic plays are, and what I would like to say I am becoming with Pyro Prison.
So where does this take us? Don't be afraid to try things. Don't be afraid to really give it some thought and explain why the cards are selected. With that, our latest decklist. I will put the game details in spoilers as I know some people had to run during the stream, and I'll let them watch prior to seeing how we finalized, we're close to what I think is a very interesting and competitive deck suited for current meta. Let's share:

Unique Card Choices
- Molten Rain - The cards utility to remove basic lands, remove creature lands, and do a few extra points of damage along with slightly tempo-ing out our opponent is great utility. Imagine the times you've played Ux Control where they finally get that 3rd Island.
- -1 Goblin Rabblemaster - The discussion earlier had me thinking, "Why do I always jam Rabble fast, to watch him eat a bolt, or be blocked but the stupidest of creatures." As such, I removed one.
- Stormbreath Dragon - This card is a 'Built in Chalice' as in it misses; Fatal Push, Path to Exile, and Lightning Bolt. In the UW Control matchups it avoids Detention Sphere and Gideons. It is weak to board wipes. What is missing here though, is even behind the bridge Stormbreath actually can be a singletime mana dump for X Damage to the face, and in the Control Matchup it can sometimes hit upwards of 6-7 damage.
- Goblin Charblecher - You get to shine little buddy. This card plays Aggro, shooting people to the face, killing planeswalkers, and putting pressure. This card plays Control, picking off the Birds or Nobles that fix our opponents mana from a Blood Moon to just buying us time. Yes, there is a random nature to this card, but we need to still focus on "Reveal Mountain, x2 Damage!" On average this card is still doing approximately 2 - 4 damage it seems as I've used it, and numerous times yes, I have flipped a mountain. Remember you are than paying 3 CMC - Scry 1. It sucks, but it is a weird digging engine if you look at it this way.

Match Write-up

Matches:
UR Breach/Control:
- Game 1: This game was a grinder. This game is always a view on how you look at your outs. When we talk about "Eating Cryptics" this is the game for it, you could say in one turn we did eat 3 Remands. So much so, that in the late game we stick a Chalice on 1, on 4, and on 3. (Cantrips/Bolt, Cryptic, Electrolyze). We end up getting so far, that we surpass our opponent drawing more than likely 70+ cards, Emrakul allowed them to go for the kill to rebuy their Electrolyze and when we determined this, chalice on 3 after our lock pieces were out was mandatory. How can we put a Chalice on 4 though? Stormbreath Dragon, Ironically it was Walking Ballista finally sticking that won us this, remember even super late you can naviagte any Ballista around Chalice.
- Game 2: We decide to Turn 2 a Molten Rain to clear the way for Chandra/Hazoret. We end up sticking a Chandra, upticking to Molten rain with a ritual and get a concession. Our opponent was low on clock and probably at that point had enough of us. Our first game was I think well over 30 turns.
G/W Taxes?:
- Game 1: An Early Moon via Magus into an early Walking Ballista looks to shut this game off when the Ballista kills a Noble. Our opponent does stick a few Aether Vials, but at this point we have a Charbelcher. Please note, that they have a Thalia, Heretic Cathar. Our Chandra/Koth would have died and we would not have been able to just let Magus not block, which would have enabled the lands. This lock behind Charbelcher and careful Control/Aggro navigation steals this game away, in a rather difficult matchup. We utilize Charbelcher to essentially clear threats, at one point not succeeding, but in fear our opponent uses a Selfless Spirit to protect. They have to choose before though, which is nice. We eventually do take this game to a finish and Molten Rain does pick off a basic plains that shows up, but the game is not too notable afterwards. (Of note, when targeting Thalia, we had a chance to kill them when we revealed 12 and a Gemstone, but we obliterated Thalia instead).
- Game 2: We keep a very light threat hand, and feel our bridge will get us there. Chandra + Bridge are the options, we are able to stick an early Bridge (fear of the Freebooter Human). Thrun, the Last Troll does make an apperance which was cool to see. We do see a lot of ETB creatures this first game so we know Torpor Orb is a must. From behind the bridge and with Goblin Charbelcher to remove Nobles quickly we prevent the "Under the Bridge" issue we encounter. Over the course of the game, we "FIRE THE LASERS!"
Burn:
- Game 1: Chalice on T1 on 1 Gets the scoop. Sorry Burn <3
- Game 2: We keep a hand with a T1 Eidolon option. We end up playing and top decking an Abrade into our opponents double Goblin Guide. Through some careful navigation of life, and our opponent missing land drops we stick a Chandra into Blood Moon. Our opponent scoops at 16 life (us at 9). We presume their hand is full of 2 CMC spells, needing white.
Jeskai Control:
- Game 1: We keep a hand with the pieces, Magus + Bridge. We immediately get a Walking Ballista out on 1, assuming control. We are ready for this to eat a bolt so that our Magus can stick. Instead our opponent plays a Snapcaster into our 4 mana, where we pump and kill. From there we end up pumping balista and attacking. Our opponent does find blue mana, in which we remove with Molten Rain. Pump + Attacks with Ballista and Magus are enough to close the game.
- Game 2: We have a T1 Blood Moon, we keep. Our opponent is locked out of colors at this point, we are ready to play a Goblin Rabblemaster but find a Chalice of the Void first. Chalice on 1 gets a scoop. Our opponent was likely very dead with Rabblemaster following.
Humans:
- Game 1: We are prepared to hide behind our bridge in game one, knowing this will be a struggle if we cannot empty our hand quick enough when we're facing down a Champion of the Parish + Mantis Rider. A Noble shows up and a Meddling Mage appears naming Anger of the Gods. Our Rabblemaster is on defense for our Chandra, Torch of Defiance. We eventually go empty handed. We do carefully navigate some of the tick ups/downs of Chandra in convo (I believe we only tick up). Of note, Stormbreath Dragon shows up. Our Stormbreath actually ends up hitting for 4 Damage on Monstrous, which is not bad against Humans. We have a Chandra Ult waiting and our opponent scoops.
- Game 2: We have a T1 Chalice on 1. We get this down, to avoid Nobles and avoid Paths for our Magus of the Moon in hand. We add a second Chalice on 1 for good measure on T2. From here our opponent has established a board of Champion + Mantis again. We lock them out of lands and are then utilizing Chandra to pick off a Mantis. From here we lose our Chandra, and then establish Goblin Charbelcher. The card would go on defense but we end up drawing Ensnaring/Torpor Orb. We eventually estbalish a Stormbreath and go to work with Charbelcher. Although our opponent scoops, we have a Monstrous for 7 damage (they are unable to empty hand) + Charbelcher beats.
If you've been keeping track, our final record was:
Matches: 5 - 0
Games: 10 - 0
Goblin Charbelcher, he a thing guys, he a thing.

Stickballruss posted a message on Pyro Prison || Goblinized Mono-Red Control : The Sideboard DeckNice! That's an awesome tournament report. Before I get into that, Ray, damping matrix is nuts and I think it's the way to go, however, don't forget spyglass also hits lands, PLANESWALKERS, and enchantments. I was thinking of swapping just one apyglass for a matrix, but testing is the only way to know for sure.Posted in: Control
Zayl, I don't think I've seen you post here before. Welcome! You are spot on with your analysis and it showed in your results. For big Tron, you gotta be the aggressor. You are also correct when you said turn one moon was the wrong play. That's alright, for a deck that seems straight forward, this deck is anything but. Would have loved to hear how hammer worked out for ya, but I'm not sold on it yet. Time Will tell and more testing is needed. Also, I play taking turns as well and eidolin destroys that deck. I'm looking forward to hearing about more tournament results and remember, if you get the role correct, you'll be afforded the luxury of making a fee play error mistakes, just don't mess up your role assessment. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

G1: Mull to 4 on the play did not see a single land in my 7,6,5 or 4, said eff it Ill keep it and hope they are a slow deck, pass my turn, Opponent plays t1 Glistener Elf. I play a t2 rabble from scryed land and die a few turns later before i can find a third mana to sweep the board.
Pull in Angers, Torpor, Chainwhirler, Spellskite and Jaya. Pull out Rabbles, and Sarkhans
G2 and game 3: both games I chalice on 1 turn 1, then a bridge helps seal the deal opp scoops to hellbent both times.
Round 2: Mardu
G1: Keep a decent hand, not familiar with this player and he turn 1 blackcleaves into faithless looting, I am putting him on Hollow one for now. I slide in a chalice on1, his turn 2 he plays land and passes, i land pass, t3 he plays Marshflats and I realize he is on Mardu, plays LotV upticks and I discard an irrevelant card, draw for turn nets me a hazoret which i deploy the next turn and kill his LotV, Much thanks for her helping me activate him, Grind him down with Dog Mom with a timely chandra to take care of a bedlam.
Pull in Eidolon, Stormbreath, Spyglass, Torpor, Chainwhirler, Spellskite and angers, pull out moons, Bridges, Pyretic and a desperate.
G2: Get another early chalice off on him followed by a sarkhan uptick slowly and Opp deploys a Bridge of his own, drop in Avaricious and start digging for an answer, Opp plays a few lingering souls and wittles away at a looming sarkhan ult, Eventually land a chandra and throw excess cards away with haz until I find an Abrade for the bridge and swing in with the team forcing my opp to have to deal with a chandra and a sarkhan ready to ult, they choose to focus on the chandra, sarkhan ults and they scoop to the power of the dragon man.
Round 3: Jund
G1: t1 thoughtseized lose my chalice he follows it up with more jund threats, Am able to sweep his board a few turns later but he recovers with a newly grown Goyf, I am at a position of do i play a moon to stop his lands or a bridge to stop his attacks, I opt for moon so he cant liliana or handhate me, he casts a BBE and gets lily from it I die a few turns later
In, angers, Spyglass, Eidolon, Stormbreath Spellskite. Out, Bridges, balista 2 ramp spells 1 sarkhan. (I am not sure my sideboard is correct for jund but I am trying to just jam threats and force my way through)
G2: turn 1 moon YAY they have a basic forest and play goyf followed by Scooze, take some slow beats as I try to get to 3 mana to wipe the board, they deploy another bigger goyf, I find a bridge then a 2nd moon think I have stablized. BBE flips over a Pulse gets my bridge and the tide comes crashing in to spell my demise. Jund does Jund things and shows why it is still one of our worse matchups unless we can just draw answer after answer.
Round 4: UW
G1: he plays island passes I t1 chalice with an Opt from Opp in response, plays a field of ruins but misses his 3rd and 4th land drop, I resolve a second rabblemaster and he scoops a turn later
In Jaya, Boil, Chainwhirler, Spyglass, Eidolon, Stormbreath Spellskite. Out, Bridges, Abrade, Ballista 1 slag ( i kept one in just in case he played secure the wastes plus it can atleast get in 3 damage) and pyretic
G2: I get a quick eidolon followed by a spellskite. After a few eidolon beats he gets a path for both of them and is able to counter my moon the following turn, In goes normal of deploy threat, threat is removed, Fought through 3 terminusus 1 jace and a Teferi but his card advantage gets me in the end with a 2nd Jace and a Dsphere on my KotH.
G3: i go first and play eidolon on t1 followed by a t2 SPyglass naming the jace in his hand. pass my turn turn 3 he plays Field of ruins passes, I dont get a land and just pass t4, EOT he fields my Ramunap ruins I tap it for mana fetch my mountain opp fetches basic island, then during eot i use my new land to tap for 4 total and boil away his island and Fountain leaving him with his plains. He plays a Glacial fortres and I reslove a moon, After a few fancy mountains of my opponents and a few threats he scoops.
This round Opp Wins Player of the night for me, He was real interactive and fun to talk to, He learned that Boil is a card and after the match he remarked that he had no chance in game 3 and that I played masterfully, (mainly due to the "3 land" boil play I think but still) Also he discussed Task mage and said he had fatesealed her to the bottom knowing if i resolved her my next turn he wouldnt of had an answer.
Round 5: Humans
G1: is a close one t2 thalia followed by a free booter for my slagstorm and a illusion on freebooter that wiffs, I barely able to justthrow blockers down to stem some damage before i double block with mana monkey/rabble to kill her and topdeck an abrade for my sweeper back, get knocked real low next turn from a thalia's lieutenant but sweep the board and Am Able to find a moon followed by bridge and opp scoops.
In Angers, Dampening, Chainwhirler, Jaya. Out: Rabbles and 1 Sarkhan
G2: I get greedy, could of t2 angered a champion and Noble but i hold off wanting a little more value and Sin collector comes down and takes it. I cut opp off 1 drops with chalice but a steadly growing Champion gets me in the end with no bridge in sight
G3: Chalice on 1 them and remove the 2drop then sarkhan, they drop a Mantis rider and go for sarkhan but not tell he is able to find me a moon. Moon them off then deploy Jaya take a hit from the rider then just use jaya's firsta bility to desroy him. Opp scoops to having fancy mountains with a creatrue that kills any threat they could play live on the board.
Round 6: bye but Opp is on UW Spirits. We play some friendly Pauper of him on Axebane gaurdian combo, me on BW Pestilence lifegain a list i've had for about 7 years with no changes or updates. fun times.
Quarterfinals of top 8, I am in 8th seed going up agiasnt the only undefeated of the night a good friend on Tron.
G1: He plays tron piece I deploy Hazoret on our respective turn 1s, cant swing but its okay. He plays 2nd tron piece and a map I play land and abrade the map and swing in for 5, He scowls and plays forest and fetches up his last piece with Sylvan scrying, I swllow hard and then top deck a mountain slam it and swing in again, next turn swing and throw the card in hand after he plays out an Ostone, Realizes even if he pops ostone on his turn he will die to haz not being removed and scoops
In Stormbreath, Eidolon spyglass, Shattering spree. Out Bridges, ballista and 1 slagstorm
g2 he plays tron map, Spree map and pass for me, plays 2nd tron piece and I play a rabble, he nat trons and has a wurmcoil which spells my doom quickly.
g3 On the paly t1 Rabble hit for 1, Opp plays tron piece. I play t2 rabble swing for 8 have him at 11. T3 he nat trons and has a wurmcoil floating a green mana from a sphere flounders a moment then decides to pass, I swing with the whole team for 21 total, blocks 1 rabble with a wurmcoil which I proceed to abrade in response and we shake hands after smashing in for 13 after blocks. Reveals he was deciding wether or not to Claim his own wurmcoil for 2 blockers when i reveal I had a shattering spree to take care of both of them had he done that line of play as well.
Top 4 Splits a box and its 2am so I drive home and pass out.

Local mountain slinging L1 here. That judge made the absolute wrong call. The cmc of a card is always its listed cmc. The only time that is different is when a card with an x in its cmc is on the stack then x will be x+other normal costs. Like a banefire for 3 will cost r+3 so its cmc will be 4

After reading Russ's guide on siding and roles I managed to do rather well having a first round loss to Death and taxes never finding a Bridge plus a surprise Mark of Asylum in g2 on t2 negating my grip full of Slag/Angers. ROund 2 I handily took out WU fishes with an easy chalice on 1 followed up by a bridge g1 with a bit of deja-vu in game 2. Round 3 was versus Rakdos burn that I barely managed to eek out a win in both games ending both of them with my opponent just needing to topdeck a bolt to finish me off. Final round of the night before cutoffs was a easy loss to mono green tron where honestly I am not 100% sure of my position with the deck and I am sure I made multiple misplays but i managed to barely squeak into the top 8 the store had for the event in the 8th seed. quarterfinals opponent was a weird GB deck that was half the rock/half 8 rack. Game 1 he turn 1 Inquisitions and grabs my ritual for the moon I had planned to play leaving me to scrabble to place a lock piece but not before he had a bob and goyf on field making for a clean kill from behind. Game 2 I enact plan "aggro" and drop in the t1 rabble followed by a turn 2 chalice for 1, he draws for his turn 3 and just scoops remarking how he had side-boarded most his removal out placing me on Free Win and never saw that coming. Game 3 his own bob plus 2 eidolons seals his fate quickly as i hide behind a bridge. and in the semifinals I again fall to r4 opponent of Mono Green Tron while I flail and try my best. Game 1 i made a fatal error of going for the turn 1 moon instead of rabblemaster completely playing the wrong role for the matchup. and in game 2 i do get the turn 1 rabble but he swiftly followed up with a dismember on his t1 followed by a o-stone for my Moon. It was an awesome night though I am completely enthralled with this deck and although i know i made a ton of mistakes I plan on conquering this big red hill of a deck.
Some tips from the experts about the tron matchup would be amazing as well as there are a few Mono U turn decks in my meta and im not 100% sure on how to properly play versus it. I am assuming going for the full aggro but i feel if they start going off there will be nothing I can do. ALSO I dropped the Mamma and papa for the Hammer only ever saw it in one of my tron games when it didnt matter but it just feels like a good fit if i ever drew it in any of my other matches I would have been stoked to see it at nearly any time. Will be playing in another event on sunday and I will run my results back to you guys. hopefully with more of a breakdown as a total new acolyte attempts to join the ranks of the masters. Thanks to Ray for the beautiful Incarnation of a red prison deck, and Congrats again to Russ for his well earned finish of this machine.
