any tips on GDS matchup? Game 2/3 should get better but i get my grave torn apart by nihil spellbomb and they have so much disruption and a fast clock.
Im a new storm player and came across this scenario.
Opponent revealed Collected Brutality off of Bob. What is the play here?
My thoughts: Manamorphose: always good even if it hits the yard. Its also a scare card for opponent and sometimes they just tunnel on it Past in Flames: If they give you it, then its just less time to wait to go off again and win the game. Desperate Ritual: another ritual, lessens the time to go off again. You want to fill you hand with as many as you can in this position. Can possibly splice, but there's good odds that opponent will take one of these with the incoming Brutality or Thoughtsieze. Noxious Revival: Even if they make you pitch, just go off with it under a Manamorphose putting Baral on top of your library. If they tap out with their remaining 2 lands to cast Collective Brutality, then Baral comes out without fear of getting removed.
They don't have super fast clock right now, and you hand is pretty damn good right now. All you need is to get to 6 mana (7 if they force you to discard PiF) and you win the game. This shouldn't be too hard with that hand, already 4 lands in play, and 2 rituals already in hand. The only problem with this is that its soft to graveyard hate. But since we know 1 of their cards in hand, and the fact that if they had Nihil Spellbomb then they probably would have played it already. There's no guarantee but imo i think this is the best pile. They are drawing with Bob so we need to go off asap.
Their best play here is to give you PiF and Ritual. Take ritual and PiF with their Thoughtsieze and Brutality, I think. They can't give us Noxious because we can just respond with their spell on the stack. Like if they give you Nox and leave it and plan to take with Brutality then we can just cast in response, so thats super bad for them. However, they might just take Pieces and if so you just win. Also if you draw a land you win or if they leave Desperate ritual you win. Basically theres a lot of situations where you just win next turn. Let me know what happened
I never got to finish the match, I was trying to play a quickie before work but it went a little longer. In that last scenario, is drawing a land really a win? is it possible to double grapeshot in that scenario without a bear?
Something I saw somewhere else that I may have to give try. Goblin Rabblemaster. Helps in the matchups where you want pressure really fast and can get nasty with saheeli. Could be bad but gonna at least give it a try. Turn 2 Rabble can be pretty tough to beat.
Titanshift is a matchup I am conceding. They are fast and have access to sweepers. Brutal. Nissa and Champion are kind of cute, but I will say adding all of that blue gums up the mana base even harder
Losses were to Storm and Burn and I beat Eldrazi Tron/Death and Taxes/Random Brew. Got Eldrazi tron off lands from ghost quarter -> renegade rallier. That was gas.
MVPs:
Ghost Quarter
Rallier
Thragtusk
Losers:
Sun Titan (didnt see it once)
Reveillark
Hurtful Manabase
I wish there were a more efficient 4 drop to evolution into. I feel like im usually getting renegade rallier when i eldritch a voice and a medium impact card if i have to sac a wall of omens. The angel card seems good vs. random permanents we cant deal with. Gonna give courser a try also.
I'm curious how you all sideboard vs. Eldrazi Tron. Here is my list I am taking to regional's this saturday. Currently running 2 ghost quarters/2 ralliers in the main because I expect a ton of big mana decks locally. Current flex spots are 2 Wall of Omens or 1 Lotus Cobra/Wall and Kitchen Finks or Reflector Mage. Is Unified Will worth bringing in vs. Eldrazi Tron?
// 60 Maindeck
// 24 Creature
4 Birds of Paradise
1 Eternal Witness
4 Felidar Guardian
1 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Kitchen Finks
1 Noble Hierarch
1 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
2 Renegade Rallier
1 Reveillark
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Sun Titan
4 Voice of Resurgence
2 Wall of Omens
The new Humans deck is a really really bad matchup. They go wide really fast and can even interact with the combo game 1. I've played around 8 matches and haven't won a game 1.
I've come to add 2 Engineered Explosives to the sideboard which has been fantastic vs. it while also helping against the other hyper-aggro decks we naturally struggle against.
Another thing I would like to talk about is the viability of counterspells in the sb. It seems Unified Will has been the go to choice which has been decent but I'm left to wonder if a situational card that is somewhat slow is the best bet?
