If the tutor ability also automatically equipped the Bo to a target it would be significantly better, as it could be attached to a Ninja that has been played with its ninjutsu ability.
I really like this one. I could replace the Bo's second ability with "You can attach Bo Shuriken to an attacking Ninja you control whithout paying its equip cost and any time you could cast an instant".
Personally, to make the ninja a bit less underwhelming, I'd give it a evergreen ability, something like unblockable, and have the tutor ability only refer to himself, and up his power.
For example:
Ninja -2uu
Legendary Creature - Ninja
Hexproof
Ninjitsu UU
When ~ enters the battlefield, search for <card> and put it into the battlefield attached to ~. Shuffle.
2/3
I could up its power, but wouldn't it be too powerful if I implemented both this change and the one above? I don't think making her unblockable is a good idea as she is right now, simply because she needs to stay on the battlefield to do her job. Hexproof is a viable option exactly for this reason.
Now I'm really undecided, though. Should I make her a X/4 or an X/3 with hexproof? She is supposed to work like an enchantment with a body either way, and so having some protection from removal is nice, but I don't really want her to be too frustrating to deal with.
The biggest issue with cars that work with specific other cards is ususally that players don't like being told how to make a combo, they want to put it together themselves. The few that have been popular managed it by being strong and also cool and fun. Kaldra for example, and the recent Gate to the Afterlife.
I just had an idea. What if Chiyome, instead of looking specifically for Bo Shuriken, could do that for every 1-mana equipment? In my opinion that could be (among other things) a flavor win, since she could work with Shuriken and Sai of the Shinobi (if this ever makes it into Modern). I don't really see any overpowered equipment for that CMC, though I wonder if cards on the power level of Basilisk Collar could turn out to be too good combined with such an efficient tutor.
In conclusion, I think my cards for now are:
Bo Shuriken 1
Artifact - Equipment
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to an opponent, you may have it deal 1 damage to defending player or to target creature or planeswalker he or she controls.
You can attach Bo Shuriken to an attacking Ninja you control whithout paying its equip cost and any time you could cast an instant.
Equip 2
Mochizuki Chiyome 2UU
Legendary Creature - Ninja
Hexproof
Ninjutsu UU
When Mochizuki Chiyome or another Ninja enters the battlefield under your control, you may search your library for a card named Bo Shuriken and put it onto the battlefield. Then shuffle your library.
1/3
or
Mochizuki Chiyome 2UU
Legendary Creature - Ninja
Ninjutsu UU
When Mochizuki Chiyome enters the battlefield under your control, you may search your library for an Equipment with converted mana cost 1 or less and put it onto the battlefield. Then shuffle your library.
2/4
Since the second version of Chiyome is significantly more powerful, i thought I had to balance it to make her more vulnerable.
I'm particularly interested in your thoughts about which version do you like more (personally I'm more intrigued by the first one) and if I should make her a 2/X in any case.
I see. I thought about making the creature search for any equipment (even when she only enters the battlefield herself), but I thought that it would lead to even less flexibility, since I was imagining her in a format where Batterskull is legal.
Thanks for the reply!
Hello guys,
I'm new here. I play MtG casually, but I often watch tournaments on Twitch.
I want to share some cards I created and some existing ones I modified. I'll post some in the following days too, and I'd like to know what do you think about them.

Bo Shuriken 1

Whenever a Ninja creature enters the battlefield, you may attach ~ to it.
Equip 2
I created these two cards to give a potentially faster clock and creature removal to Ninja decks (I'm mostly thinking about Modern). They are probably not too competitive, but I wanted to give some space to creativity and flexibility in the deckbuilding process.
