Who is the Demon? Guess we'll see him as a legendary in this set.
My first thought was Ob Nixilus. Reignited has the wings and the horns.
The quote makes sense for it to be Ob Nixilis, as well.
It really doesn't. Ob Nixilis wanted to destroy Zendikar, not conquer it, remember? He didn't fight the eldrazi, he fought the Gatewatch to try and sabotage their attempts to stop the eldrazi.
Not to mention that this guy looks nothing like Ob, even taking into account differences caused by different artists. This guy lacks Ob's distinctive chest markings. The horns are thin compared to Ob's thick horns, and their placement is all wrong. Ob Nixilis doesn't have visible ears, while this guy does. This demon isn't even the right size; I doubt even a spawn would be that small compared to Nixilis.
We know there were some nameless demons who fought the eldrazi; this guy is just another rando.
HIs goal wasn't actually to prevent the Gatewatch from stopping the Eldrazi; he just fought them because they interfered with his attempt to reignite his spark with the Khalni Heart. And he was actually planning on fighting against the Eldrazi just because he needed to save Zendikar to save himself, until he stumbled across the hedron network and realized he could use that to repower himself instead. https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-story/any-cost-2015-11-25
That said, I do think that the quote fits with the previous text of pestilence demon more than it does Ob Nixilis.
Not only was Belzenlok not strong enough, he also wasn't smart enough. See here's the thing. He has wings. If I saw an indestructible man wielding one of the only weapons capable of killing me and visibly intended to do so, my first instinct would be to fly out of his striking range and then order my clerics to make him go insane with dementia spells. Instead, he just gets into a swordfight with Gideon. The worst part is that Liliana's other four demons weren't also Elder. This implies that Belzenlok has been around much longer than the others, and should therefore have some semblance of a survival instinct. But he doesn't.
We know that Gideon is (mostly) indestructible, but that doesn't mean that Belzenlok does.
I think it's weird that people are debating why Teferi didn't think to look for ghosts/wasn't able to see them, rather than what I think is a much better question--Why in the world did Jhoira immediately jump to the conclusion that there were ghosts in the ruin, and they were key to solving the puzzle? Am I the only one that thought that was completely out of left field?
If Liliana hasn't returned to Dominaria since her spark flared, how did Belzenlok etch his part of the bargain onto her skin? I suppose it could be in some pseudo-demon-realm, but Liliana would have had to visit him, right? Episode 2 states she does not return to Dominaria.
Also, I'm all for Lim-Dul; the Chain Veil is from Shandalar: we don't even need that much more to convince us.
She says, "I haven't been back here since," but "here" could just mean Vess rather than Dominaria.
I am beginning to get worried the Raven Man is Bolas. That would be dissapointing. I wanted him to be a new character or LimDul or even just a subconsious projection of Lily herself. It seems anticlimactic to me for it to just be "another" Bolas maachination. Please dont be him......but there is already some foreshadowing hints and usually WOTC is obvious with these "twists" and it seems to be playing out.
. I was thinking the Raven man is a figment of her imagination and she is actually insane
What's really interesting is that during the Shadows of Innistrad story, Jace actually saw the Raven Man as well, but he was also not in his right mind at the time.
Oddly enough, the least assy oldwalker in the stories as of late has been Nahiri. I mean, sure she tried to Emrakul an entire freaking plane, but outside of her feud with Sorin, she seems reasonably nice.
"Reasonably nice"? She doomed an entire plane because of her feud with one single guy. To me now she is totally in the "crazy oldwalker" camp.
I very clearly said "outside of that"
Sure, but if someone is reasonably nice except for the genocide, that's not really reasonably nice, is it?
Also, where is the hexproof coming from in that scenario?
The idea is to cast Huntmaster turn 2 and then two of these turn 3 to reduce Ghalta's cost by their combined power - which it has even though you cannot attack/block with it.
Sounds like a god hand to me, but at least the additional land drops means part of it can be redundant with other cards like Drover. And as they say, you'll also have only one attacking threat for all of your trouble, so answering Ghalta is still a solution.
You quoted the part about where hexproof is coming from in this scenario, but didn't answer that...
Well, this actually broke dinosaurs unless someone actually can answer and kill it. I'm hoping decks are packing at least some burn spells or something. It's possible to have 8 dinosaur rampers at 2 cmc with Otepec Huntmaster and Drover of the mighty. On turn 3, someone can basically double play two dinosaurs and turn 4 bring out Galta, Primal Hunger while still having enough mana to protect it against removal easily. It's basically a mid-range aggro deck and it's definitely a glass cannon, but there's very little one can do against it as the one mana removal that was designed to hit it only works if the player is under 12 life. Even then, they have the mana to protect it so that is kind of pointless. A 12/12 hexproof trampler is just about as good as a flier when the best defender someone can put up is probably a deathtouch 2/3, which still lets 9 damage through. Plus if they have the huntmaster on the field that is a 12/12 hexproof trampler with haste plus two more dinosaurs that likely are 2-3 power creatures, potentially with enrage.
I was building a few brews and was like "well this looks modest for merfolk, oh my blue flying men deck can go grixis and be pretty sweet, vampires are looking closer to playable, and... what the heck we just got done with electrostatic pummeler and now we got dino land ramp pummeler 2.0."
If someone doesn't try it, I'm going to be super surprised.
How is this the card that broke dinosaurs? It doesn't even seem important in the scenario you lay out.
Also, where is the hexproof coming from in that scenario?
My fellow Vorthi, This is the opportunity we've been waiting for!
This time we REALLY DO get to decide the fate of a Plane.
Let us get off of our computers and
W: Organize an adventuring party to collect emblems and advance your Faction.
U: Configure our navigation gadgets, solve the Geocache riddles, and locate the secret emblems of your Faction.
B: Sieze victory at any cost by locating and eliminating the emblems of your Rivals.
R: Run around like a madman, looking for emblems, entertaining spectators, and employing questionable shortcuts to arrive where your Faction (and heart) leads you.
G: Appreciate the world around you as you locate and place your Faction's emblems, all the while basking in nature and pondering the need for increased ecological responsibility.
Edit: Vampires are winning so far...
Wow, yeah thus far Vampires are winning by a HUGE margin (double the 2nd place [Merfolk]). I realize this is far from final, but I'm honestly surprised that Vampires and Merfolk are in the lead (Go Merfolk, Go!). I'd have thought for sure that Dinosaurs would sweep it, but they're actually in last place atm.
Dinosaurs, or Sun Empire? That's an important distinction. If the option was to vote for dinosaurs, and the city would be effectively reclaimed by nature with wild dinosaurs roaming it, I'd vote for that in a heartbeat. Sun Empire, on the other hand, with their scheming emperor, and the weird martial code that Huatli follows? Definitely less appealing to me.

Ah, that was what I was looking for.

So this wouldn't let one steal energy counters?
