@ccc: Thanks for further clarifying your point. I see how peek has really given you an edge in comparison with other cantrips in those scenarios. I tested Peek a year ago in my list (more on the aggro side of the tempo spectrum wit lots of one-drops). Since I've changed my list to a more flash-style deck, Peek may be much better for me now than it was back then. However, I'm just not a fan of SV in my Delver list. I play it, but I'm always slightly unhappy with it because of the reasons stated in my last post. I've played it in more midrangey decks (Temur good stuff and GDS) where I was very pleased with SV. I think it's just better in decks with individually more powerful cards, which is probably true for your list compared to my low to the ground delver deck.

Discussing cantrips is always the best Smile . Just to state my position: If I could, I would run 7-10 copies of Opt in my Deck Wink It plays so smoothly when your trying keep up mana most of the time, and also is fantastic at finding your stuff exactly when you need it.

@ccc: I think that you are right about some possible benefits of running SV & Peek, but I don't agree with some of your reasoning. Having knowledge about your draws and your opponents hand surely might help to sequence your plays more advantageously. However, not being able to control the draw off your cantrip is a huge downside. There are so many match-ups in modern where you just need to find your removals/counters/threats very quickly and flexibly. Neither Peek nor SV get that job done very well. SV sees more cards than opt, but doesn't give you a controlled draw untill your next draw. Aditionally, it's not very flexible because it's a sorcery. By that I mean, that you have to spend mana on your turn and that you might find yourself scrying during your turn, and then regretting it during your opponents turn. Sure, you can mitigate these downsides IF you have Peek in hand, but you can't rely on having them both in hand. Plus, Peek gets so much worse if you have multiple copies in your hand.
Another point I disagree with you is your whole comparison of Peek and Opt in %. I for one definitely don't scry to the top 50% of the times I cast Opt. Usually, I have a more or less specific idea on what I'd want to draw. Even when I'm just casting it to be mana efficient, I put the card to the top in 40% of the cases at most. When I'm digging for something very specific, the amount of times where a blind draw is equal to Opt drops drastically.

In the end I think it's important to keep in mind that there isn't a "strictly better/worse". Magic has so many sources of variance, including what deck you're playing. Variance vastly affects how well certain cards perform. I don't know your decklist, but it's totally possible that SV and Peek work best for you, even thogh I disagree with your assessment from my point of view. I might give Peek another try as one of since it's been a while since I last played it.

@Twanicus: thx for the kudo. The deck isn't super competitive, but you definitely have a chance against most deck in modern. Of course there are some nearly unwinnable matches, but that's true for the majority of modern decks. If you like the cards in the list, want to do some crazy over-the-top stuff with Geist and Chance for Glory and you don't expect it to be super comepetitive, it's sure worth giving it a try.

@WickedApp: Thank you for your input. Trimming one Sundial would be an option for sure. actually, I tested the deck with only 3 Sundials in one of its earlier iterations. I went back to 4 copies since Sundial is such an important enabler for this deck's strategy. However, it's totally possible that a cantrip instead of the fourth Sundial would benefit the deck. It's basicly a trade-off between improving the deck's consistency in "doing its thing" on the one hand and enabling role flexibility on the other hand.
I think I'm going to give playing another cantrip over the fourth Sundial a try sometime soon. The deck has changed quite alot since I last played it with only 3 Sundials, so a reassessment might prove useful.

My Chance for Glory deck looks like this.

This deck's haymakers are Sundial of the Infinite, Geist of Saint Traft and Chance for Glory. Sundial is so good in this build because it serves a double function. The more obvious use of it is to end your extra turn so you don't lose the game. The second way to abuse it involves Geist. Ending your turn while his end of combat trigger is on the stack allows you to keep your Angel tokens indefinitely. Geist isn't only great because of this "commanderesque" synergy. Casting Chance for Glory with Geist out happens to be a very efficient way to kill people as well (given the opponent took some demage already).
Gideon, while not being the most busted card in this deck, adds a whole lot of consistency. On the one hand his emblem gives you another way not to lose the game to your own spells. On the other hand he is a pretty solid threat himself.
The rest of the deck are mainly ways to keep the board clear and slow down your oponent. In my opinion Remand is the counter magic of choice in every deck running Geist, so i play the full playset. Since spot removal isn't an issue normaly, I figured forked bolt was a nice way to help geist connect when the oponent goes wider e.g. with lingering souls.

I must say that I'm quite happy with this brew. I'm always having a blast playing it, and even though it's a tad slow sometimes I think it's pretty reasonable beacause of its solid jeskai interaction package.

    Any thougths?

    Hi everyone

I haven't posted anything here in like a year. But it seems like it's time for a comeback Smile . There are two things I'd like to comment on. First, Chance for Glory, and second, Pteramander.

Back when Chance for Glory was spoilered I instantly knew that I had to brew something in modern with it. As I am a big fan Geist, it was clear to me that the deck was to be in jeskai colours. The result of my brewing is a Sundial of the Infinite heavy variant that also runs Gideon otT and Remands. It's slow sometimes, but it just feels great attacking with an indestructible Geist while taking extra turns and building up an army of 4/4 flyers. That said, if anyone is interested I can post my personal build. I haven't changed it alot since October, but it should still be fine.

For the Pteramander topic I'd like to take a step back. My iterations of Jeskai Delver/tempo were genereally quite close to CurdBros'. Swiftspears, Delvers, Geists and Snapcaster as Creatures and the rest was basicly disruption, burn and cantrips. While I was happy with that formula for quite a while, the last half year I started doubting my deck. Especially Geist got alot worse imo with the decrease in control decks in modern. In response to my slowly growing frustration I tried various alternative takes on the formerly proven formula, but the results were mostly disappointment and deck that was more and more disconnected from what I wanted it to be.
While playing UR Phoenix for awhile now, I realised how much I missed cantripping alot (went down on cantrips in the past year). This leads us back to Pteramander. When it was spoiled I wanted to play it in my delver deck so bad, but from experience I knew that I couldn't fill my GY fast enough. So my first thought was to try a similar approach to Ur Phoenix lists. Obviously, Manamorphose and Looting are their best way to feed the GY efficiently, but since I really like an interactive counter-burn/tempo playstyle, the potential tempo loss brought by Manamorphose and looting's card disadvantage didn't appeal to me. That said, a small number of Looting is probably fine. I don't think that not being able to run those cards is that much of a problem, since the vast amount of conventional cantrips in UR Phoenix is also one of the reasons why the deck fills its GY so fast.
Tonight I played my first take on Jeskai tempo with Pteromander. I drastically increased the number of 1cmc cantrips (4Opt, 3 Serum Visions & 3 Thoughtscour)in my deck, added 4 copies of Pteramanderand reluctantly removed my 3 Geist of Saint Traft. There were also some other minor changes. Since it's kind of late here in Europe, I'm going to post it tomorrow.
I couldn't play too many games with my current iteration, but it really felt great. Cantripping like a maniac is just the best Smile . One of the matches was against UB mill... I Pteromande just felt like cheating in those two games. G2 I accidentally mulligand my perfectly fine 7 card hand, and then had to mulligan down to 5. "Flipping" Pteromander t2 ended the game very quickly.

I will try to play some more matches the next few days and report to you Smile

@Jdeezy: I mostly agree with MrTzoulis on the changes suggested by him. I would probably keep the Vendilion Clique as it is almost always a good proactive play. I may be wrong about this, but its probably its mainly a matter of preference. I'm not too sure about the Cryptic Command. I think it may be a bit too hard to cast. As for the swiftspears, I was thinking of Stormchaser Mage as a replacement. The evasion might give some extra late-game value and the fact that it is a blue spell might help casting Disrupting Shoal.

I watched your game against Skred red, and I agree with you that Search for Azcanta performed extraordinarily well. I also considered playing it, but I was a bit afraid of it being too slow in the mainboard. I'm really intersted how your experiences with azcanta are in less grindy games.

    Hi guys
I've been following this thread for a bunch of weeks now, but now I finally made it - I created an account so I can participate in the discussion Smile
First, I'd like to thank you all for the encouraging and inspiring thoughts you shared here. I'm playing Jeskai tempo/delver/whatever for quite awhile now, but your posts really helped me in a lot of ways. There are some cards I didn't consider as options before e.g. Hazoret the Fervent. In other cases, it was super helpful to see that cards I thought were great for the deck were actually found in similar lists. The best example for this is the recent addition of Chart a Course. Last but not least, hearing of all your experiences made me believe in the viability of my deck, which in turn encouraged me to go to my first modern fnm.

    Here's my current list:

This List differs from the one I played at the fnm 2 weeks ago in a few aspects:
    1. I added a 4th Snapcaster Mage and a copy of Hazoret the Fervent, but removed a Delver of Secrets. I'm still testing which of the 1 cmc creatures (Delver or Swiftspear) I want to keep as a four of. The current Spilt is the result of my love for Monastery Swiftspear and the fact that she rarely does nothing before being removed.
    2. I removed Spell Snare for a second copy of Spell Pierce
    3. I used to play two copies of Mishra's Bauble. I really liked it and would love to fit it in again because of the sweet interaction with Monastery Swiftspear and Delver of Secrets in early game. However, the card just feels kind of awkward in top deck mode and often feels underwhelming with neither Delver, Swiftspear or at least a fetch land in play...
    4. I played Chandra, Pyromaster in the Sideboard instead of Chandra, Torch of Defiance. The latter seems more powerful to me, but I'm not quite sure if the former wouldn't suit the deck better because of its ability to remove a blocker while dealing 1 damage with her +1. What do you Think?

Please let me know what you think of my deck list. I would be especially thankful for comments on the sideboard Smile

@GreatNate: Cool to see you here. Recently I have found myself watching your youtube videos quite often. I really liked your jeskai Geist lists.

Welcome to the jeskai delver/prowess topic! It's always great to see new posters becoming active participants. The collective knowledge of all of you guys/gals has really helped me personally and hopefully others.

I like your list a lot. It falls into the Aggro end of the spectrum and looks a lot like Mr. T's list. As you likely already know, I would suggest keeping the delvers and swiftspears for an aggressive start. However, like StevomatUWR said above, there is definitely a great way to play the deck without an abundance of one drop threats. As for the list, the only suggestion I would make is to get the fourth Lightning Bolt into the list. Some people would say it's crazy to only run 3, but I have done so in the past, so it's not crazy. With that said, there is no other card in modern that is so efficient at killing the opponent and their stuff :). Other than that I think it looks great. I like that Cligue and chandra along with the negate, dispel, give you a chance to side into a more midrange deck when necessary.

    Now for your questions.

I personally prefer spell pierce over spell snare. Both are great, but I have found that in the aggressive decks particularly that spell pierce has performed better.

I agree with cutting Mishra's Bauble. We need to be very efficient to be succesful. Cantrips are a necessary part of the deck because they trigger prowess and help us hit our land drops with a low land count, however, we don't want to many blank draws or too much "air". I think you made the right choice cutting them.

On the Chandra topic, I am a known fan of Chandra, Pyromaster. She is my favorite planeswalker of all time (if Ral Zarek was better he would top the list). What I love most about her is that her +1 fits seemlessly into our main deck game plan if your ahead. She does direct damage and removes a blocker. In contrast, her 0 ability helps us get back into a game if we are behind or to get ahead if we are at parity. To top it off, her ultimate works great in a deck with a lot burn. My basic opinion is that in the more aggressive versions Chandra, Pyromaster is better and in the more tempo/midrange versions {c]Chandra, Torch of Defiance[/c] is likely better.

Thanks for the feedback! You're right, my deck plays quite aggressive most of the time. But I love how our decks can adapt to different situations. Sometimes I play it more tempo oriented, sometimes its more controlling, and yet other times it feels like a burn build.

Decreasing the number of one drop threats by one and simultaneously increasing the number of creatures by one is the result of my experience at the FNM. However, I feel like I'm biased because of my first match there. It was against Jund, which would have been hard enough, but in addition I was really unlucky with my opening hands...
I've been testing my deck online for about a week now, and I must say that I feel more confident about Delver of Secrets again. That said, I will probably go back to four Delvers and Swiftspears respectively.

I'm playing four copies of Lightning Bolt. I guess its pretty much a auto-include in this kind of deck. I simpy haven't been careful enough writing down my list.

I guess we have an almost identical opinion on Spell Snare. Although it can be very powerful, I think that Spell Pierc suits my list much better. Most spells I might want to counter are noncreature spells anyway since I usually have enough removal. However, I must admit, that the option of countering a Snapcaster Mage for one mana is really sweet.

Your short analysis on both Chandras is very helpful. I knew that her 0 and +1 abilties wer both good, but I haven't thought of Chandra, Pyromaster as more versatile in this kind of deck before. I'm going to test both a bit more thoroughly in the future.

I'm going to play my deck online for a bit longer, and then participate at the modern FNM once again sometime soon. Hopefully, I'll have learnt playing against some more decks by then.
