A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

So here’s where it’s at for me. The announcement yesterday came out of the blue, and I was frankly pretty surprised. I imagine we all were. It definitely made me rethink my plans. MTGSal has been a great place for me, I’ve made friends, learned a ton about the game and how to play it better, and it’s mostly been a great time.

All that being said, a lot of the friends I have made are making the trip. To me, what makes any community great is the people who are in it and what they put in. I sincerely hope that the future owners and mods continue to look after salvation as a community, the way it has been under the current staff/mods/admin. But for me knowing that these current staff are moving on is a deal breaker. The forums I mostly frequent in EDH have led me to get to know some of the fantastic people who look after us, like Cryogen, Airithne, Feyd, Wildfire, Benjameenbear and so on. Knowing how much they’re looking forward to the move and how much they believe in it speaks volumes to me.

I will likely still be here as a spectator to some degree, but I am also looking forward to a fresh start and a new beginning, and I know the staff that are moving are really excited about their new site too.

I agree for the most part, but I would say that they weren't as adept at controlling the subtle and consistent trolling for some users here. One user particularly comes in mind who I know has regularly posted in a way that should have earned them warnings or suspensions, but the staff was not quick enough to act or said that the posts were "too old" to act on (1.5 months in the past in one case) once notified. So the message was basically - Troll, insult, condescend, etc. and if you're not caught in 1.5 months then you'll get away scott free! Didn't know such a short statute of limitations action applied to vile behavior. Interesting.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to the new staff doing an exponentially better job in this area. If not, then I guess people will have to put up with the same stuff at MTGNexus. So here's to hoping MTGSalvation fixes this and does a great job in the future.

    Best,

    Ben

Loved the rules section, but noticed a lot of trolls and non-responses on questions. Maybe it’s a good thing to have this end and be reborn in another form.

I think having Back to Basics would be interesting to have in Modern. I see how it would punish a lot of decks, but it's a 3 drop and applies to everyone (including the owner/controller). Would it be good or bad to have in Modern?

Quick question for any judges or rules experts out there...If I have two Sphinx of Foresight's on the battlefield, do I get to scry 2 at the beginning of my upkeep? If yes I'm assuming the more of these creatures I have on the battlefield the more I can scry. Thanks for any assistance ahead of time.

Lifeline's ability triggers only whenever a creature "dies", that is, is put into a graveyard from the battlefield (C.R. 700.4, 108.1). Blightsteel Colossus's last ability replaces Blightsteel Colossus going to the graveyard to it being shuffled into its owner's library instead. Since it goes to a library this way, instead of to a graveyard, Blightsteel Colossus hasn't "died" this way for the purposes of Lifeline (C.R. 700.4, 614.6). See also this thread.

    Thank you very much!

I had a question to clarify this situation...

If my Lifeline is on the battlefield and someone happens to send my Blightsteel Colossus to the graveyard, would the Lifeline effect replace the one on my Blightsteel Colossus, thus sending it back to the battlefield or would the Blightsteel Colossus be shuffled into my library as normal since the Lifeline effect says it occurs at the end of turn?

So now that Gideon is finally at rest/peace in the afterlife, who do you think WotC will replace him with in regards to a white Planeswalker card that they will print frequently? I'm assuming whoever they choose will also replace him in the storyline as well.

I was hoping to see Garruk in some way, shape or form. I wonder how they are going to continue his story.

Further proof that Gideon is the one that dies?...

Yes I noticed that too today here... http://mythicspoiler.com/war/cards/gideonssacrifice.html

It looks like Gideon is the one who dies instead. Not sure how Jace and the rest of the Gatewatch are going to react. Probably not very well.

Well it looks like she will die in War of the Spark. See link for the trailer below. Thoughts?

I'm curious to see what 50 cards they chose to reprint as well as all the new ones. I'm happy they're printing cards powerful enough to be in Modern now and aren't handcuffed by having them pass through Standard. Does anything think Serra the Benevolent is good enough to be competitive? If so, in what type of decks?

In some aspects, this is actually superior to Lazav, Dimir Mastermind. 2 less power for 2 less cost, hexproof traded for surveil, a repeatable activatable ability instead of a triggered do-or-don't one.

Like shifting into a nether traitor, then after waiting for blockers phase, shifting again but into phage the untouchable. Laughing

All for only 9 mana, after you get Phage from your library or hand into your graveyard. Which for Modern will very likely take so many turns that you've probably already lost the game. Another EPIC FAIL.

    1. Modern needs Counterspell badly
    2. Baleful Strix wouldn't hurt either.
