    What are you guys' thoughts on having two Meandering River in an Esper list to make double white more consistently cast?
    I'd like to have two Settle main deck, access to Lyra, Cleansing Nova and stuff like that.

    I really want to make a blue splash work in my deck too.
    I went 2-2 and my local fnm last night, and my two losses were pretty close games too. i think the deck is fun to play and it feels strong, I just miss having blue hehe. I think my problem is just always "what do I take out?" when I sideboard, because the main deck is really strong.
    The mana base is strong enough to support a blue splash.

    Do you think it would be worth having two or three Thief of sanity in the sideboard against the mirror? I think it could be insane if it can survive all the spot removal in these decks and get one or two hits in.

    I had Muldrotha, 4 negate and 2 disdainful strokes in the sideboard at first, but Muldrotha ate removal every single time it landed on the board.

    Your deck looks pretty awesome and you got some nice results. I like how you added some elements from the Green Stompy list.

    Why did you add Drover of the mighty instead of Llanowar Elves when you're only running three dinosaurs in the sideboard? Why not go with 4 Llanowar elves and 4 Druid of the cowl like you mention instead of Glowspore Shaman and Drover of the Mighty. Druid of the Cowl also survives Chainwhirlers that still run around.

    Would you add some counter magic like Negate and Disdainful Stroke to the sideboard since you're running blue or are you all in on the Ferox plan that you don't want potentially dead counter magic stuck in your hand?

    Do you feel like you ever get value from Muldrotha? I know I only have one Muldrotha but it pretty much dies before I cast anything from it.

    Just curious about your thoughts.

    Hey, got a bunch of new cards today, so this is what I came up with so far. Most of the deck was inspired by Brad Nelson's Sultai Midrange deck, but I see a few things I think I should change after seeing the SCG tour over the weekend and results from the first week.

    I'd like some critique from you guys, so here's my list.



    I think the deck looks very suited to go against other midrange decks and control decks. Strong spot removal package, strong library filtering, hand disruption and some big flying finishers.

    Here's a couple of my concerns and thoughts with how it looks right now.

    1: I need more some enchantment hate. I'd like to find space for 2 Thrashing Brontodon or maybe more. Need to take care of Tribunal, Experimental Frenzy, History of Benalia and other stuff like that.

    2: I'd like to add 2 Find // Finality in the main deck. Card looks really sick. Good graveyard synergy and late game pseudo boardwipe. Saw it played a few times on the SCG stream over the weekend and was very impressed with the card.
    I'm thinking about taking two Thought Erasure out of the main and swapping them with two Find // Finality
    Removing two Thought Erasue is probably a good idea, but I have a feeling my meta will have a bit slower decks than mono red at my first post rotation FNM.
    Also a good main deck answer to Token decks before boarding Ritual of Soot and Golden Demise in from the sideboard.

    3: I'd like to add one or two Vivien Reid to the sideboard. More enchantment hate, good for grindy stuff. Just a good card in general. Maybe take out the 3 Deathgorge Scavenger from the sideboard in favour of other stuff like Vivien and Brontondon? I don't think I'll be needing a lot of graveyard hate, but the life gain is still nice against red.

    4: I have 4x Plaguecrafter and 2x Undergrowth Lich that I'm thinking about maybe swapping Hostage Taker out with.

    5: I have a feeling I should add 1 Field of Ruin to the mana base.

    6: I guess I need to focus my deck a bit more to beating Mono red and Boros decks from what I can see in the week 1 meta.

    7: I already miss Scarab God for this deck hehe.

    I have a feeling it's too weak somehow after drawing a couple of test hands. Maybe need some more high impact creatures or something, not sure. More early threats/interactions?

    Let me know your thoughts. My local FNM is on Wednesdays so I have little time to tweak it before the first voyage.

    @kysg : I believe a blue splash would love Hadana's Climb. I'm surprised you splash blue for early flyers and reactive spells, it's not what I expect from an aggro deck in the first place. Steel Leaf Champion is uncastable with your manabase, which makes it straight worse than other splashes. We probably have to wait for the next set to splash blue and be competitive.


    I have very high hopes for Hadana's Climb come Ravnica Allegiance and hopefully lots of counter synergy with Simic Smile

    Managed to bust out a 5-0 in a competitive league on magic online with this list. Played against Boros aggro, GW Tokens, Abzan Midrange, and 2 esper control decks. Really liked Expansion//Explosion a lot. Card won me several game all on it's own, some I had no business winning.


    Congrats on the 5-0, that list looks like a lot of fun to play!

    Since not really needing to run Field of Ruin with Assassin's Trophy in the deck, would it make sense to run a single copy of Detection Tower. It looks like it could do some serious damage on the tricky threats.

    One of my Magic buddies said he's going to run 4 Plaguecrafter in his 75 too. He usually builds some nasty stuff, so I'll be looking into that too. Running 4 in a control build may be a bit much and more suited for the midrange version of Sultai.

    I'm thinking it's possible to go four colour so we can run Teferi too. Untapping two lands after a Teferi +1 with an Assassin's Trophy in hand makes my nipples tingle.
    Damn we need that Hallowed Fountain hehe.
    I still think it's possible to maybe splash the 4th colour since Teferi would be the only white card in the deck.

    I think we cross our fingers on having a Thought Erasure or our own Carnage Tyrant ready.
    @arglebargles says he hasn't had any problems dealing with Vine Mares and Carnage Tyrants even after playing against lots of green decks. At least Vine Mare can be Essence Scattered.
    I just know I'm going to get ****ed up by them from not having Settle hehe.

    Ok cool. I'm going to be buying most of my new cards this week, so I'm basically making a list of what I need to finish my midrange deck, but I'll also buy stuff for a control version since it looks like I can swap a few cards and change between the two.

    Had my best FNM results with my Esper Control deck, so I'm sad to see it go, but I'm thinking Sultai Control will be able to keep me going. Again just still worried about Vine mare hehe. I have a feeling it's going to pop up a lot more. Just gotta have those discard or counter spells ready when I know the opponent is using them.

    The first list looks pretty sick. My esper list just had a few more "traditional" finishers like 1 Scarab God, 2 Gearhulks, 2 Lyra and 2 Teferi. Also had Chromium in the sideboard. Damn I love that card!
    I think I'd put in 2 Carnage Tyrants, 2 Doom Whisperers (maybe 3) and 2 Vraska Relic Seeker. I like having sort of more traditional beaters to finish the game.
    I think I play too aggressively in general hehe.

I sometimes use it as recurring land destruction when I no longer have targets and can get into a Gaea's Blessing loop. Really the only thing that I am missing is Plaugecrafter or similar to remove those uncounterable threats. So I'm going to add those in and tweak and see what happens. Not sure who else plays Arena but I've gotten several 7-0 and 7-1 out of this deck with no modification at all, which is pretty good considering I'm seeing some really strange stuff pop up in the meta on there.

    I think 4 Chemister's Insight are mandatory in control decks post rotation.

    I'm going to see if I can sort of make a variation of my current Esper control deck with Sultai instead. See if it makes sense kinda swapping stuff out one for one as much as possible. My Esper deck feels very flexible and ready for any matchup really, so I hope I can recreate that with Sultai somehow.

    @Arglebargles: What're your thoughts on Assassin's Trophy so far in game?

    @Torrysan: I think the control and midrange Sultai deck will probably be different enough to warrant two separate threads

    Only thing I'm a bit worried about with going Sultai Control is not having access to Settle the wreckage. I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of Ferox, Vine Mares and particularly Carnage Tyrants.

    Given how many Eldrazi hate cards Wizards have printed lately, I highly doubt it. I love Eldrazi and Zendikar so I'm sad hehe.

    I did read somebody mentioning Nissa hearing Emrakul's voice in her head or something, not sure where they got it from.
