Llanowar elves do go into stompy. They enable a turn 2 Steel Leaf Champion. It's the best play in the entire deck (at least in standard, looks like you're talking about modern)
They would also enable the second best start which is having a turn 2 Pelt Collector and Thorn Lieutenant/Merfolk Branchwalker and then start swinging away.
This card is also making me consider doing a sultai Hadana's Climb deck even more.
Getting a playset of this for my stompy deck for sure!!!
Going to make turn 1 and 2 way more versatile if you don't have Llanowar and Steel Leaf in the opening hand. You can have this and Thorn Lieutenant in the opening hand and also get a good start and get some early threats going.
That said, this card will be useful and welcome in Standard. I played B/x every since I came back to MtG last year, and whether playing MBC, MB Midrange, BG Reanimator,et al, I always played a copy or two of legacy in the sideboard. My most recent deck played one maindeck. Resolved one a few weeks ago against a tapped out U/W player with three Teferi in his hand and he drew three cards. Didn't matter though, that was the game.
My bad, forgot it didn't target artifacts. I'm thinking of something else....
If our deck is all red 1 drops like it is now then I don't want any double blue cards in my deck. Steam vents is barely better spirebluff canal for fixing. You start putting red 1 drops and 2 drop double blue cards then you'll start having to play izzet guildgate and that is very bad for this deck. A wizard's retort deck starts with a blue 1 drop not a red one. Not to mention completely losing the ability to run any goblin chainwhirlers.
I couldn't do a mono-red deck. Just can't see that working. I get what your saying though.
Is it just me or is the Guildgate art way cooler than the new Steam Vents art. The guildgate looks awesome.
