I was expecting the plot to actually move forward... this episode should have been on the Core 19 stories not Dominaria.
From what i can see Belzenlok lore will probably be rushed and he will be just another waste of space.

Apr 25, 2018Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Cainsson »Edgar needs to be cast to win against good decks because Vampire Lacerator and his token buddy aren't cutting it in a multiplayer format with 40lp.
There's THREE good vampires, Yahenni, Undying Partisan, Olivia Voldaren and Captivating Vampire. And there is no Elvish Guidance, Goblin Warrens, Zombie Apocalypse, Merrow Commerce or Dragon Tempest to help them either.
Edgar and Arhabo are balanced by being powerful tribal cards in very weak tribes. If you really can't deal with them the right thing to do is be an adult and either build better decks or ask the Eminence players to adapt their decks to the playgroup's level. Not prohibit everyone else from playing a deck that is neither overpowered in cEDH nor problematic in casual commander just because you don't like that there's some things you can't say "no" to and for the first time ever some of those things are not in blue.
If you really believe in what you just said, there is no point in arguing with you, you're just to stupid to actually thing before saying things, and too short sighted to realize that what is "cool" and "balanced" for you is just annoying and unstopable for the other players at the table.
Just a side note, all the times i won with Edgar, he didn't even touched the board, and to be honest that's the only reason why i won, because he didn't had to touch the board to beat the opponents.
Apr 24, 2018Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Cainsson »You people act like vampires aren't still the worst dedicated tribe by the very fact that they're not in UG. A vampire deck will never even have a chance to beat well-built Elves, Merfolk, Zombies or Goblins without Edgar's eminence. And tribal decks are the lowest tier of competition. The card/deck doesn't do a thing to stax, combo or taking turns strategies.
I would like to encourage you to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYvsM5HrCSc&t.
I would agree that vampires are ONE of the worst tribes (ever heard of werewolves and angels?) but Edgar Markov makes vampires broken.
Apr 13, 2018Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from soramaro »Overall the basic land AWs are not as good as I'd hoped. Still a bit miffed that the new Meandering River is the only callback to Timespiral era geography (come on, that was just 60 years ago...). Would have greatly preferred more callbacks to that instead of the random Thran structures, which look pretty uninspired for the most part.
Still, the basics by Demitar (Dimitar?) Marinski are great. And the Urborg one and the Lunter island I guess.
Some more basic land observations:
- There's now another top art for the "Wizards doesn't know what Islands are" joke album (the underwater city)
- The Weatherlight can be seen in every "Thran structure" art
- Why does every Mark Poole basic have an archway except for the Forest?
If you'd rather have throwbacks to a "meeh" block in terms of both gameplay and story perspective than a throwback to what was probably the most important civilization in the entire MTG multiverse, then you're pretty short sighted, buuuuuuuuuuuut i think it would be pretty cool to have a gas mask as a legendary equipment, like you said despite everything the Time Spiral block in terms of story was very important to the plane, having some sort of relic from the time (like a gas mask) would be pretty neat.
I love the basic plains and swamps, the islands as always are a little boring, the mountains were pretty "meeh" and i don't know what to think of the forests.
As for why Mark Poole has archways in his art, artist have a bad habit of putting things they are attracted to or find cool in their work, even if it is irrelevant (i for one like drawing/painting hidden tentacles close to my characters/landscapes)

Sure but if they aren't going to matter until the next trip to Dominaria then give that focus chapter to Teferi, Karn or Jaya. It also makes putting together a new Weatherlight crew rather pointless, it was already slightly pointless cause its not like the Jacetice League will be warming the bench while Weatherlight Next Generation is the main team like the OG Weatherlight Crew. But its even worse if the Weatherlight is not going to be around in story.
I don't think anyone in the story board would dare say this but, i completely agree with you.
Apr 10, 2018Idk if Gid's is going to become W/B, something that i think everyone understands to some extent is the fact that every mortal in the MTG universe consists of all 5 colors of mana, Gid's is a white character with the other four colors as splash colours, but to actually make a W/B card of Gideon they would need a pretty good reason.Posted in: Magic Storyline
Personally i don't think Nissa should have gotten a U/G card, she's still as green as it can get, she definately changed but not enough to change the color of her cards, just look at Dominaria, in the first chapter she did something that only a green character would do, she saw pain and chaos and she ran away from it.
Gideon is changing but i feel like he's just using more than one or two aspects of white instead of actually reaching for another color (Black). But if he decides to use the Blackblade he should get ONE W/B card and go back to white after it, i highly doubt he would use the Blackblade for something other then kill Bolas/Belzenlok (that's his name right?)
Editor's note: that's just my opinion
Apr 9, 2018Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Underused Cards »I think this can find a place in aristocrats in Modern. It's a pretty good card that helps against aggro decks to gain you some life back.
As an aristocrats player i can tell you right now that if you're trying to make a competitive aristocrats deck you shouldn't play this, most creatures you'll have in play will be used to fuel Viscera Seer or Cartel Aristocrats , which are much better cards then our friend Torgaar, to cast him you would need to sac an entire board of Lingering Souls, and if you play modern you know that three 1/1 flyers are way better then one 7/6 with no evasion.
This could see play in STD (and i'm sure Saffron Olive will build a deck around it), but STD is a much "safer" format, you don't have to deal with Remand, Path to Exile and Terminate among many other staples.
It's a pretty cool General though or even one of the 99 in a Ghave deck.
Apr 5, 2018Posted in: Magic StorylineQuote from toctheyounger77 »But you also don't have any clue how long Jhoira, Teferi, Karn, Weatherlight will be involved in the story. It could be for the next several sets for all you know. If the Weatherlight can travel off world again, there's a really good chance all of the characters in the story will see regular rotation.
I think that in the current canon event if the ship could travel between planes, the passagenrs would just die during the travel.
Apr 5, 2018Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Crypt Rat »Is this depicting when Bolas was masquerading as Sensei Ryu in the Time Spiral books?
I think this is the moment in which he was "released" from his Meditadion Realm.
I think that the word "Reborn" is being quite literal in this case, since when he got trapped in his real his physical body was dead, when his soul was released he was "reborn".

Oh, I have no doubt she's Standard-playable.
At her worst, she's eating the Push out of your opponent's hand. But then you probably drop Lyra Dawnbringer the next turn, and your opponent wishes they still had removal.
At her best, she's keeping all your other goons alive FTW.
True, i completly forgot about STD
In other words, you completely forgot about one of the formats these sets are designed for.
I mean, if they don't play or keep up with that format, they won't be likely to judge cards by it or even necessarily know what would be used or how.
I know that, but it's the part where they said that they couldn't think of any other format than EDH or a few specific decks in Modern that led me to say that.
Just because one doesn't like a certain format doesn't mean they should forget that format exists, or that that format is a major factor in why cards are designed a certain way.
If only you had read MY post and not the quote ^^
Also, i don't think her design has anything to do with STD, she's a goodstuff card, that's all, but the fact is that Goodstuff deck's in MDN and LGC have cards that are much better then her. She will se play in STD? Sure, she eats removal, she protects your board, i just don't think that in the current STD meta you're going to have a board to protect by the time you play her.
Lyra Dawnbringer is the same (in terms of design) when i looked at her ability i thought about Innistrad not Dominaria, because while angels have always being a huge part of Dominaria lore (as a fellow vorthos you know that very well) they were never a major tribal in Dominaria, actually the only Plane in which angels mattered in terms of gameplay was, you guessed it Innistrad. Are some cards designed to fit the current STD rotation? Sure, but Shalai and Lyra aren't
Apr 5, 2018I hope this whole reincarnation theory turns out to be false, the OG weatherlight crew was amazing (Mirri was always my favorite) buuuuuuuuut, they're dead and gone and they should stay that way.Posted in: Magic Storyline
As for people who don't like the fact that they're focusing too much on non-walker... i kinda' agree, Mirri, Teysa, Anafenza and Avacyn are 4 of my favorite characters in MTG, and they're not walkers (woudn't mind Teysa being though) and i love reading their stories. But the fact is, let's use the new Weatherlight crew as an example, they're being developed which is amazing, specially giving the fact that they're the "protagonists" of Dominaria. But once Dominaria is done it's going to take another decade for us to see them again, on the other hand planeswalkers can show up anywhere, even if they have nothing to do with the place they're in, so it makes sense that people want to learn more about walkers then non-walkers, simply because it wont take a decade for them to see their favorite walker again.
