I am going to have to agree with Mosschops on this one.
Everybody has their own personal pet deck, one that they are known for no matter what else they play. I, personally, am the Enchantress guy at legacy, becuase I run it almost 100% of the time, and I love the deck. Andrew first showed up writing about Merfolk becuase he loved the deck and thought it would do well, and he played and trimmed and played some more to make it so. Also he has a very casual way of writing with plenty of dry humor to break up the monotony of the matches.
And shin, I think the reason why people didnt like your many fae articles is becuase you wrote about them as your favorite deck but you seemed to like winning a whole lot more and Fae were more like a means to an end instead of a true pet deck. Also the coincidence that Andrew just happens to be doing his once a month writing about a deck he has been working on for 6 months to a year, and the fact that the new lord made the deck Top 8 worthy recently isnt that much of a stretch when you think about it.
P.S. Andrew, you will love legacy my friend, once I started I all but turned my back on standard. How big is the playgroup out in your area? We are lucky and have a large tournament every week here in Atlanta, so I get to play regularly, but I know most areas cant support it.

    good lord,

it seems this thread has completely missed the mark.
Why are people still argueing about the intangibles of life when facts are staring us in the face.

Humans have already gone over the K value for Earth (maximum holding capacity), We are increasing our popluation by something like 600-800 an hour, and this does not look like it is stopping any time soon.

I am not a big environmentalist, i believe that humans evolved into the smartest animals so we get the biggest spoils. However, what we have evolved into is something that can suppress its instincts, and as far as I know we are the only ones who can. Therefore, i believe it is our responsibility to be able to control our instincts of breeding and reduce the population. I am not going to lie, I do not want to see my family line extinguished, but that does not mean I have to have a ton of kids, probably 2 at the most.

Not to sound like a complete a-hole but it is the families that have 5-what ever kids that end up screwing us. I know some people just want to have big families and what not, but we have to think about the long term. To many people these days live in the present only. why the hell is our economy so bad, because we cant think farther than our nose.

I hate to tell people this, but the earth is running out of resources for our race to use, and guess what that leads to .....ya guessed it, WAR, woohoo. I realize that humans will never stop giving into their instincts, which means the earth will never get better. Take a gander through your history books and you will see that nothing has changed. War will be fought for resources, and other than a war, or other large disaister, I do not see human population growth stopping.

This organization is not trying to promote the extinction of the human race, nobody wants that, however, we and only we have to power to fix what we have wrought upon the planet, and to say that we have done nothing or we deserve to do what we have done is the height of hubris.

you guys are clearly missing crop rotation, I have always enjoyed doing stuff at instant speed, (grab chasm in response to PoP, Maze in response to dreadnought, and it is an easy way to get riftstone into the graveyard without wasting it yourself.

I like the mutavault tricks that have been posted, never really thought about that myself.

i run a 3 colored G/R/U that runs intuition & academy ruins for EE and Disk and crucible, It is a much more resilient build (more controlling), but I think it gave up a little speed and consitensy to get there.

this is not an aggro deck at all, over half of it is 4CC and up. The ram-gangs should be turned into incinerates, and the spitemares need to be made into reveillarks, these guys are the absolute shizz in this deck. and maybe drop a ranger or ajani for an extra land, 22 always seemed to short for me. Also you might want to switch the lashouts for puncture blast, they really help against collossus, cliques, demigods and finks.

ok this is my deck, got 3-1 last week at fnm

    19 creatures

    4 balefire liege
    4 mogg fanatic
    4 Figure of Destiny
    2 Ranger of Eos
    2 Reveillark

    3 Ajani Vengeant

    18 Spells

    4 Oblivion Ring
    4 Incinerate
    4 Flame Javelin
3 Flame Jab This card has been the weakest so far, and gets boarded out for sideboard one drops usually
    3 Puncture Blast

    23 Lands
    4 battle field forges
    11 mountains
    6 plains
    2 terramorphic expanse

This deck runs on burning out their threats, then dropping leige and start playing head shot spells, and regaining the earlier life loss.

Also ranger of eos and reveillark are all about creature advanage, tutor up 2 figures of destiny or fanatic (post board forge tenders and hexhunters), or get back a liege and something like figure of destiny.

Lastly Ajani is really good in this deck, It reads kill one of their creatures, gain 3 life, Deal With ME now. He can quickly get out of control for aggro and control decks if they do not try and stop him.

Also you have to run oblivion rings, I barely beat a fog deck becuase i topdecked one to take out a story circle.

Do not run the light from within and espleth is in the sideboard at best, the boros deck is not good enough to go toe-to-toe with most other decks, it has to slowly gain board position, then after that it usually wins in about 3 turns or less.

quick question, is the slith really that good, or could stigma lasher be put in the side board, this deck seems like it would have a hard time against a good G/w or Doran build.

also quick question would pyrostatic pillar activate for each storm count if you play against swath storm, i realize that this does nothing against TEPS storm cards.

also against TEPS you could board in dues (kinda blah), and an early chalice at 1 severly hampers them, I have been playing stompy and the chalices do work, have not lost a match if I get it first turn.

and last but not least, is jester's cap simply too slow in order to go pull out there win cons, they cant go search for them with wish now.

wow I am glad i found this deck for extended

However, everyone here is going about the stompy in a wrong fashion,

this deck needs to be dedicated land denial

Deus of calamity turn one should help with that lolz
but seriously main deck the molten rains, maybe stone rains, chalices and trinispheres
and everyone already has the moon effects

then just fill out with a couple more fatties, mogg fanatics to take down birds and elves and friggin dredge, and some good old fashion burn spells. (add of course the mana ramp suite)

also why do people think equipments are that good in this, if we had the city of traitors, and tombs then this would be better but they seem like they slow down the deck to much.

i am advocating maindeck trinis because of the amount of combo, domain, and RDW i think will be popping up all over the place. the only big mana decks i can think of is Rock, and Tron control. you should have them locked out by the time they can do anything though

Shhh. You should know better than to pop the little bubble of illusion surrounding the life of many self appointed "spikes" where all cards worth of being played are only those that can be put into a "faeries", "QnT", "Kithkin" and "RDW". This deck you present, sports amongst many other attrocities Mercy killing, Mosswort Bridge and Woodfall Primus. Such an amount of "rogue" cards in one single tournament worthy deck is bound to cause fits of seizure, deprecating mock and/or outrage (in the case of being defeated by it).

HAHA, no joke, I played at a ptq in augusta, and was playing monogreen elves(battalion, slasher, nettle sentinel) with profane&nameless splash. beat every fae and kithkin deck and one fae guy told me my deck was crap and he didnt beleive he should have lost to it. Missed top 8 by oneplace. the last kid i lost to got his deck (big mana quillspike) on mtg mothership. Blast.

i do however want to get my playset of dramatic entrance before they get to be a 4 dollar card. I also know to kill devoted druids on site now so many good five drops for monogreen that can come out turn 3. ouch

We have the picture of it. It really is that good.

Confidant is amazing in zoo, the black splash is worth it still. How about jus Non-U Zoo?

you still want to have that steam vent or hallowed fountain, so you can get the extra point or two out of your tribal flames, but yes no blue.

Affinity is really strong post-rotation, but you all are forgetting about Shattering Spree and Ancient Grudge. Gaea's Might (the deck, not the card) will stay around in some kind of evolved form, probably dropping the blue and black. Actually it may stay around since it gets to keep Tribal Flames which reappeared on the timeshifted sheet.

One note about aggro-loam: It loses its sweepers, but keeps Countryside Crusher and gets a shiny new finisher called Worm Harvest. This actually may be the best use of the retrace mechanic out of Eventide, and Raven's Crime is also a natural fit for the deck.

Dont worry nobody has forgotten about them, or kataki, and yet the deck can just get the explosive hands to kill someone before they get good sideboard out. It seems like a paper rock siscors game, RDW/goyfsplash will beat affinity, but lose to rock, rock should lose to affinity unless they have fracturing gust wishboard (and even then they might already be dead), and beat RDW.

Not sure how the crazy combo decks will come in, and I have yet to see a ridiculous control deck be able to contain affinity, or RDW.

and with the new graveyard hate they put out, i dont see loam decks doing to well.

almost forgot, zoo is going to still be amazing. dont know what the matchups would be like though, it does run all the colors for artifact hate though

  • posted a message on Is it possible to have a Black Magic Hero?
I cannot believe anyone has said this.

the color of the card can also reflect actual profession of hero as well. Off the top of my head Necromancy is usually used for foul purposes in the Magic storyline books, except in Ravinca with some of the golgari guild leaders who used it for good purposes, and ot to get off subject, in one of the diablo 2 novels, one of the main characters was a necromancer and yet used it in a good way to fight evil. if that person was made into a card they would definitly be a black card just the card would not have the full destructiveness seen in most black cards

not that bad of an article, I was hoping for some ideas for extended, but you seem to have come to the same conclusion i did, prepare for affinity, it ends up being the only deck that hasnt gotten a swift kick in the balls.

of course, this is before shards comes out, so other hate cards may come out, and some other good cards may come out. zoo has already gotten a ridiculous 1 drop. by the way, when do the extended tournaments actually begin.

i have to say, another good podcast

i still have my doubts about the amount of gold we are seeing, but they are definitly giving mana fixers out of the wazoo, should be interesting to draft.

Sarkan Vol has got me pretty pumped (pardon the pun), i cant wait to use his ultimate, he dies, i drop sarkan vol #2 and proceed to win. glorious.

I honestly do not like exalted, becuase of the way i play. if i am not attacking with multiple creatures, or comboing off, i am losing a game. unless that creature is spellwild ouphe...with might of oaks...and giant growth...and beserk. oh well.

and everytime i see devour, all i can do is sing that song, so i cannot take it very seriously right now.

    I will agree with plarp.

The friggin artwork is amazing. it looks like we are getting back to some roots baby, stuff is looking very classically fantastical (as in fanasty). Cant wait to see what else they pull out.
