The End of an Era

Once I have some games down I want to look at Jadelight Ranger for sure. See how the mana holds up, if evolving wilds is needed, etc. I also considered the ramunap excavator as well.

I'm not sold on Razaketh. If there are a bunch of silver bullet cards needed for a really diverse meta I can see that being really important. But I like this list to start for testing and see how the new decks develop that we need to be able to beat.

With plummet back in the format, green can just eat big fliers easily now. Maybe I'm overvaluing the card tho.

Retooled my list, will maybe try it at FNM this week, but I might draft. I actually really like this new version, perhaps holding onto attune and refiner was holding me back from creatives. Or maybe it will just be different now, anyways.

Gonna try the World Shaper to help fill the yard/maybe ramp a little. Chart a Course is fine on 2 to sculpt a hand or good later to refill for only 2. Back to the full playset of Champion of Wits for further sculpting hand and yard. Trying out the Chupacabra alongside the Hostage Taker to see if I prefer it. I do like that Taker can snag artifacts if needed. Without the energy production, the Demon of Dark Schemes may go to the sideboard, but unsure for now. I know lots of people at my LGS are planning on going aggro with vamps and merfolk this week, and it seems really good against those.

New list looks interesting. I'm down. Wanna see what if anything gets banned and then go from there. Also worried that if the 1 mana artifact sees sideboard play this deck may just be unplayable now. Not sure but it's an exciting time.

I think this deck needs ways to fill the yard faster. Like someone said, sac outlets of some sort. Ruthless knave could be a great one as well. Sac a creature, get some treasures, etc.

Also, with ruthless knave, you can then run things like Renegade rallier and green wheel liberator. Being able to sac a treasure to trigger revolt then use that mana to cast a renegade then pull a revolted 4/3 green wheel out of the yard is a strong line.

Edit: Deck is weak to fliers, good thing plummet is standard legal next week.

Edit#2. The world shaper could be really solid here as well. It dies and any lands Lilly put into the yard come into play. Not too shabby. This deck has lots of interesting options. I've been on sultai reanimator but am gonna spend some time on this tonight.

The reanimator flip land looks like it has some play. I'd rather pair it with the ETB destroy chupacabra coming out though for that free double trigger.

Went 2-2 yesterday with my list. Did swap the essence scatter for supreme will. Still feeling good about it but ran super poorly yesterday. Might shrink some of the costs and tighten the list some for the last week before the new set comes out.

Posted this in the sultai midrange thread and was directed here. This is the new Sultai reanimator list I've been working on and playing the last week. Went 3-1 twice in that time.

Making tweaks for the last couple of events before the new set hits. I've contemplated lots of cards. The main flex spots in the deck so far are the the essence scatter for me. I've thought about maybe supreme will to improve the approach match up game one, or just 1 more champion of wits, 1 more noxious gearhulk. Every other card feels right in the deck at this point.

    Is anyone still playing this?

Ah, I knew I had seen a reanimator thread before. And I posted in that one too. I can move any future thoughts to that one.

I did go 3-1 at FNM tonight. Took out mardu vehicles with a sick reanimate demon of dark schemes with scarab god to nuke their board, then reanimate hostage taker with the demon to snag hazoret play after they went hellbent to try and finish me off.
Also beat Temur on a crazy game where I was at 3, opponent at 20 on turn 6. I land noxious and eat his 6/6 cub to stabilize. He brings in torrential, and uses harnessed to kill it. I slam Lilliana, reanimate, eat the gearhulk and gain 6 again. Then make a zombie, flipping scarab into the yard next turn. Play my second Lilliana, reanimate scarab god and win easily from there. Deck has some good play.

So after playing many versions of Snek and then Sultai Snek, I decided to re-explore midrange, but this time from a Reanimation/Energy angle. Feels like this is the right thread for this, as it is midrange based, but let me know if I missed the mark.

Took to Standard last night after putting together in the morning. Results 2-1. Beat Mardu Vehicles and a Jund dino/energy crossbreed deck. (best I could tell) Lost to Esper Approach, beat them game 1, got them to 2 on Game 2, but then they stabilized with Fumigate into Approach #2. Game 3 was a tough one, I knew he had two Settle's, so I attacked as aggressively as possible without giving up my board, he top decked a Vraska's contempt for my scarab god and that was all she wrote.

I may go up on Champion of Wits and down 1 Hostage Taker, but I'm not sure. I used Hostage Taker as a tempo play on 4 lots of times. Against Mardu on game 3, he was tapped out on t4, I snagged his Heart, he killed my Taker on his t5. Which let me survive to play Lilly on my turn, Animated a Demon of dark Schemes which wiped his pilots out. Then 2 turns later reanimated the Taker with Lilly, and immediately cast his Heart this time, GG. The free Reanimation with Lilly makes Hostage taker so much better because you can steal big stuff and cast it same turn, especially if opponent taps out.

For sideboard, packing the anti control cards in Duress and Negate. The Deathgorge, Hydra's and scrutiny's when against Red to move the curve lower, and then for Temur, I don't want to overboard, just bring in the negates and scrutiny's. You can force some good action against Temur. Demon wipes out their Thopters, and you can use any of their creatures against them quite easily to good effect, or just more energy for Siphoner, etc. Gonna stick with this one the next few weeks and tune it a bit.

Right on, thanks for the reply, took Sultai to the store championship tonight and missed top 8 by slim margin of tiebreakers. But that's ok, I could have just played better and been in. Was a really fun night. Between Glint Sleeve and Rogue Refiner, we just draw so many cards it's unreal.

So after a poor showing at FNM last week, and then a bunch of testing games this week, I'm taking a break from this for a while to think over card choices. my version of the deck lives and dies based on having both appeal to authority and adorned pouncer. The games when you crack someone for 10 on turn 3 and win on t4 are awesome. The games where you run multiple lines and win a close one on turn 7/8 are also fun. The games where you never see an appeal to authority against a midrange deck are brutal Wars of attrition you end up losing. mh thoughts right now are you can win out of nowhere, literally from t4 on with appeal. Which is awesome. But games where you never see an appeal are very difficult to win. Gonna reconfigure and try out the other builds on the thread with oketra or Rhonas monument, perhaps lifecrafter bestiary in the main or just work it from pure aggro to a midrange with a better plan for removing the opponents threats than beat down. Good luck all, hope others are doing well!

I took the base G/B package to showdown last night after hemming and hawing about what deck to bring. Hadn't piloted it in a while but it was like riding a bike.
I went 3-1, had to fight through UB control, naya midrange control (really liked his deck) and a poor new guy on his first FNM ever. only loss to temur, but, I blame myself for that because I kept a sketchy 7 game 1 and flooded out, then a sketchy 6 game 2 and never hit a third land.
Store championship on Friday and I'm contemplating running sultai. I have all the pieces to adapt the deck, but am wondering. Is it more difficult to pilot than base G/B? looking at the lists I am uncertain, but want the best chance to take home that playmat. Anyone have advice that has played both? Thanks.

Edit: Can anyone suggest gold cards against Glorybringer specifically? This is the number 1 card this deck is weak against in my opinion.

For red on the play I bring in impeccable timing for ferocidon, a third ixalan binding and the 3 deathgorge. I go down Gideon because he can't block their haste threats, go down Ajani cause too slow, dusk dawn because it misses most of their creatures and 2 adanto because you won't want to spend life to save them. Try to keep a fast hand that has a lifelinker to win the race. Ok the draw is similar, but add the settle the wreckage in place of the deathgorge scavengers.

For temur on the play I put in the deathgorge and take out the bindings and the dusk dawn. Just critical mass of creatures to pressure them from the start. On the draw I put in extra bindings and the settle the wreckages. Remove the dusk dawn and Ajani, narnam rengade, a forest and a kinjali sunwing. Getting to 4 lands with 22 on the draw is pretty doable.

Those are the only two I encounter at my LGS, your mileage may vary. I always approach it with what's my best way to win? On the play I want to deploy more threats than they can answer then trample in. A t2 adorned into t3 resilient plus an appeal or blossoming can rip half their life away if unblocked that puts anyone on the backfoot. On the draw you need to try and stabilize with lifelinkers and then deploy and win.

This is the 75 I'll be bringing to this weeks showdown on Wednesday, see how I do. Dusk//Dawn was solid for me this last week, but I now the dudes at my store will be on lookout for it and it's less effective. Putting in Ajani for the card advantage, plus the Bestiary's for the side. Plan for me is still run underneath most other decks. I'm excited to try out the Gideon, I like the idea of play him on 3, neutralize one of their threats, then activate him on 4 with an appeal and maybe another creature like resilient khenra to push big damage. Plus he can play some defense for me if the game slows down.

I really liked the binding, dusk//dawn was a meta call that I picked for my particular LGS that plays big creatures. It seriously gets back every creature we run. Gonna try just one this week and run settle in the sideboard instead, see how it goes. I also thought about running shaper sanctuary in the side, but not sure what I would cut for it.

Going down on Blossoming was a personal call because I always fear the pump spell flood with nothing to use it on if the board stalls out. I may go down the ajani and a 1 drop if I miss it this week.

I am working on a midrange build in Abzan with the renegade rallier, narnam renegade, green wheel liberator, unbridled growth and bishop of rebirth. Going Abzan for that one to run constrictor, fatal push, long tusk and bristling hydra. I like the instant cheap removal of black, but that one is tough because the mana is a bit tougher. I feel like it's a different deck altogether that runs about half of these cards, so I may start a new thread if I sleeve and play that one.

I took a version of this deck to this last weeks showdown and went 4-0. 8-1 in games.

Deck performed really well, the only deck to take a game off of me was when I kept a 2 lander and never hit a 3rd land in 7 turns. Oh well.

I did not run Oketra in the deck, opting instead to put 2 ixalan bindings and 2 dusk//dawns in place of oketra and 2 blossoming defense.

I ran renegade rallier but in all my games without a way to trigger revolt easily it was lackluster. I do see a midrange option for the good value revolt creatures, but staying super low to the ground gets wins with this deck.

The stars of this deck are adorned pouncer, resilient khenra and appeal. The other creatures give really good value but those 3 together in an opening hand should be able to secure a game, especially a game 1 when the opponent doesn't know what's coming.

Will report after this weeks showdown. Gonna run 2 Gideon main for a solid 3 mana 4/4 that also neutralizes a threat the turn he comes down.

Shapers sanctuary for the mirror? Kinda shuts down walking ballista, hostage taker and such. I still don't have botanical sanctums so I've been running 2mb and it puts in work. Ripjaw raptor too
