My modern Sultai deck wants this as a 2 of to replace cast down in the main. I can’t wait to Snapcaster this back against tron after nuking their mana. Or hitting leyline against boggles then dropping Liliana to snag their creature. And and and.
I took the old sultai climb snek deck for a spin online today. It was just as strong as I remember. Does anyone know why we moved away from this? I did slam 2 Vivien in the side tho for consistency and draw against control. She was great. Deck is still really strong. But I also want to sleeve up Ajani with Snek too. For the lulz.
I tried Abzan for a few weeks and could never get the mana right. I feel like zero Scattered groves in your mana is wrong, but I also had little success with it. Let me know how it goes. Cause the deck plays really powerful stuff.
I did 4-1 at FNM last night with Esper reanimator. I think the list needs tuning but after the latest deck dumps the flex spots should solidify. Edit: Adding decklist.
Urza’s ruinous blast is an excellent sideboard card against enchantment based removal. And G/B constrictor. They only play rishkar and maybe Vraska.
Of note, the only person who beat me was an Esper Control list in which game 1 I drew 10 lands in a row. And game 3 I drew zero lands on a 3 land opener.
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make Esper work as I really want to smash Lyra and Shalai into a deck with TSG and Lilly. Gonna go through a league or two today and see if I can put it all together.
Truthfully, I think I would like 2 Vraska, 1 Ajani main, but I only have 1 online currently. Gonna try 2 at FNM tomorrow and see how it goes.
Next iteration I’m going 2 Seal Away, 2 Cast our, 2 Binding. The games I lost were almost all due to mana issues and I think the cycling could be nice. I can often get my board bigger than the Opp, so just making land drops is often better than removal.
Probably some number of cemetery is correct. This started as an experiment to see if it had promise, so now that I’ve done well in leagues it’s time to refine.
Lyra often wasn’t needed to close the game, may move her to SB for anti aggro matches and run more early interaction instead. Or maybe just Brontodons.
So I’ve been jamming this Abzan list in practice room and a couple leagues over the last 2 days. Went 3-2 then 4-1 with this 75. Mainly any and all losses were directly to mana issues so I think I need to look at the land situation. But deck felt incredibly powerful and sometimes wins out of nowhere on turn 6.
Some thoughts. One of my losses was to red, as usual Glint Sleeve looks bad in that match up so maybe the main deck needs more removal. I stomped control both times I played them, Shalai took over the game 1 and then serpopard plus bestiary/arguel buried them in card advantage in game 2’s.
Card thoughts. Maybe need a heroic intervention somewhere (don’t own any online currently). Maybe need more removal main, the Gideon’s felt so-so in this shell. Perhaps a couple Chupacabra’s instead. Servant is way better than Elves in 3 color, plus helps fuel Siphoner.
Siphoner is either amazing or a bad card depending on the matchup as it has always been. It’s upside in most outweighs the poor Game 1 vs red tho IMO. Best of luck snaking people.
So I know this is mainly the control thread, but I've not seen much discussion around here about Flash aside from in this thread so thought I'd bring it up here. I've been rocking flash and loving it. I tried a 1 of Weatherlight and have since moved it to a 2 of. Card seems really strong in the flash shell. Can flash it in during combat or EOT and it replaces itself if it connects just once. Unanswered it takes over the game in the same way azcanta does for me. Anyone tried this or have thoughts on it?
I'm super stoked to return to Sultai with the buddy lands. I eventually moved off of it because the fast lands lost me too many games coming in tapped on 5 or 6 when I desperately needed untapped to stabilize. Currently reworking the list to find the right balance of mana and spells to it runs smoothly. Leaning towards green heavy with black second and splashing the blue.
Seems people are out on this deck, but wanted to follow up. After going 3-1 in a couple of FNM events, I would randomly win some games where I would start the game with Branchwalker, into Jadelight, into Chupacabra, into Scarab God. Strong curve obviously, but I wouldn't even need to activate Scarab God to win. So my deck morphed into a more tap out control/tempo deck and I've seen even better results. Stabilized at low life against aggro easily. Made Naya monsters look really bad, R/G monsters couldn't win unless I got slightly mana screwed. New list below. It isn't all in on reanimation anymore, but having a 3rd Scarab God greatly improves any creature based matchup. Chupacabra was a card that I initially liked and am now in love with. With all the exploring I feel like 23 is right for lands. The only thing the deck really needs is better card draw. I contemplated swapping the Supreme Will's for Chart a course. Taking those out weakens the matchup against control game 1. But I don't really know for sure. The deck has excellent top decks if a game goes to that point. But this last week I was playing for 3-1 in the final match. On the draw was able to curve fatal push, into Branchwalker, into Branchwalker plus push, into Chupacabra, into Chupacabra, into Contempt, into Jadelight and it was just over. Literally just blanked every play they made for the first 7 turns.
My updated list. Went 3-1 last FNM with it. Would like a 2 more jadelight to replace a couple of the Squires as budget allows. I had very little success with Glint Sleeves post ban and also world shaper disappointed as well. I tried Journey to Eternity and it just felt too slow with the aggro abounding. I often side out of reanimator for games 2/3 and into the semi control/midrange build to avoid graveyard hate.
Recently mapped this out, using radiant destiny over vanquishers banner. Give up some of the card draw to lower the curve, but ascend isn't too hard to hit. I feel like against approach is it Gideon, his intervention and some bindings to hit the win?
I played against a merfolk midrange list using the deep root waters and it tore me up. Cards I saw in opp's list I don't see in others.
Deep root waters
Kopala made my removal rough. Spending turn 4 killing kopala let him build his board even further.
Rivers rebuke in game 1.
Spell pierce as I'm assuming a 4 of. As he countered most every sweeper I tried to play.
He won the first game on turn 8, even when I had an active scarab god. Just built his board wide with the deep root, and then rebuke into 18 on one swing. I feel like his list played to the strength of Kumena every game. All 3 modes were on display. Deck I weak to sweepers/control but packs sweepers of its own. 4 of spell pierce mainboard can do a lot of work against control.
I do like the looks of this, I think there is definitely a strong reanimated list out there to be tuned and found.
I'm not super sold on Journey to Eternity, the possibility for a blow out is scary. But I will probably get one or two and test them eventually in place of a lilly or demon in my list.
