So it appears that there is something close to 800-900 years betwen the Tarkir section of this story and Nicol Bolas's defeat by Tetsuo Umezawa. I guess Nicol just kinda back-burnered the whole Immortal Sun thing, huh?

None of this really bothers me. The main thing I'm hoping for is more writing of this high quality. Wizards, give Kate Elliott more work!

i made a small timeline post a few pages back, i think its only around 40ish years after this story that he gets beat by Umezawa. All my info came from gamepedia though, and i dunno how accurate that is.

Overall, fabulous story, great characters, excellent writing, and I'm suuuper pumped for an eventual return to Tarkir. I liked the Tarkir parts much more than all the dragon history.

I think they did the best they could to justify the ending. Yeah, it's pretty hard to come up with a plausible scenario for Bolas not beating a bluff with telepathy (or just, you know, Death Starring Tarkir from orbit for the lulz), but our heroes weren't exactly going to stab him to death, now were they? The twin thing was a clever bit of justification: every time he'd try to mind-control Naiva, it would work on the real Naiva back in the hedron cave, but then the ambient protection of Ugin helped her resist. Sure, maybe Bolas could have/should have read Yasova and figured out the ruse, but hey, I'm willing to give the story team credit for coming up with a reasonable explanation for why he didn't.

Now, why Bolas wouldn't go do a little research, come back a year later and nuke 'em all then...ah well.

Speaking of which, on the timeline, how much time elapses between this story and Bolas's defeat by Tetsuo Umezawa?

If gampedia can be trusted, year 3285 is when sarkhan made the hedron tomb for Ugin. Year 4559 is when Sorrin hatched Ugin from his hedron egg.

Nichol Bolas conquest of Madara is listed as ??? inbetween 3346-3360. Mending happened in 4500. Gamepedia also states that this story is only 18 years after the the fight in 3285 which puts it at 3303, so ...

Unless they are ret-conning the fight, it didnt happen in the meditation plane. Here is the plot line summery from the Reforged Chain story from khans

Still in dragon form, Sarkhan arrives in time to witness the titanic battle between a living Ugin and Nicol Bolas. The two elder dragon Planeswalkers unleash world-shaking magic, and the chasm in which Sarkhan found Ugin's bones is formed during the fight. Ugin summons countless dragons to attend him, but Yasova—with a boost from Bolas—turns the dragons against Ugin with a massive mind-control spell. Rather than be forced to attack Ugin, Sarkhan turns back into a human in midair. Bolas strikes Ugin down as Sarkhan tumbles into the snow. Yasova heals Sarkhan, hoping he can answer her questions, but he blasts her with dragonfire and runs for Ugin's fallen body. Sarkhan works magic on the hedron shard he still carries, and the shard multiplies, weaving a protective stone cocoon around Ugin. His task in the past completed, Sarkhan is whisked back to an altered present, leaving a bewildered Yasova and a healing Ugin behind. In the original timeline, the dragon tempests ceased after Ugin's death, and the khans hunted the dragons to extinction. With Ugin injured but alive, the storms intensify—a sort of immune response that will alter the course of Tarkir's history dramatically.

So this must be some failed attempt by nichol bolas to re-kill his brother after sharkan vol saved him with his time travel stuff. With only 2 chapters left i wonder how they manage to stop him, he is right at the doorstep and with all the power he has i find it hard to believe they did that.

This last chapter sent me for a loop because I can't figure out when in the timeline this story happens. When Baishya started talking about the rope and it relating to time, I began to assume that this is pre-khans of Tarkir and this is Bolas coming back to finish off Ugin which allows the clans to defeat the dragons to start the whole timeline of khans and well before Sarkhan Vol did his time travel.

Was anyone else disappointed that Gideon didnt become Korlash, Heir to blackblade when he picked up the sword....it would have been perfect.

The Blackblade blurb posted on Twitter says that Korlash has already come and gone.
Im not a twitter guy is there a twitter blurb compilation post somewhere?

Dont think i can express over the internet how much I thank you for this. I started playing magic in 2000 and i cant believe I have either forgotten this or was taught wrong. This changes so much in our games going forward, maybe i should stop taking breaks from magic or at least keep up on the rule changes or make better use of the forums.

It just seems really odd that the NAP gets his triggered abilities resolved before the active player.

so if I have a bottomless pit and opponent "A" has a blood clock and opponent "B" has barbed wire then i take the 1 damage first then the blood clock then my thing? or is that a completely different situation then my example in question 3. Because all those trigger on my upkeep but are by different players and we have always been taught then whoever turn it is can order the triggers how they want.

Thanks very much for the quick reply, the 3rd one really is a game changer cause that isnt how we have been playing it (is that how it has always worked or did that change at some point?).

The hard part now is how to explain number 1 and 2 to my friends. This situation came up last week and it was hard for me to explain why his creature didnt work cause it didnt "see them enter the battlefield" but my slivers did "see" eachother if you know what im saying

Hey Guys and Gals, just need some help cleaning up some patriarch's bidding and similar cards like living death rulings.

Question 1. I play living death and my opponent has an imposing sovereign come back with it. Are my creatues tapped/untapped and if so why.

Question 2. I play living death and have dormant sliver and harmonic sliver along with 3 other slivers come into play do i draw/slash destroy for each one or just 1 card for the dormant and 1 for the harmonic.

Question 3. I play living death and have 3 creatures with enter the battlefield triggered abilities but my 2 opponents have the same so a total of 9 creatures ( 3 each), do I as the active player ( since its on my turn) choose how to stack all 9 triggers, or do i have choose someone to have all their triggers go on first/second/third

city of solitude...can be a double edged sword but there are alot of decks that get pale in the face if it resolves. if u get to untap with it in play and you have a board state, it pretty much reads defeat target player/s
