I think Tezz in the deck has been a very tempting false economy because it seems like he helps you get your combo, but that’s in a fantasy land where on turn four you’re going to be able to land a PW who will start helping you dig in a game that isn’t already a dumpster fire.

He’s very strong behind a bridge, which is the focal point of the meltiin list that has done well here and there (which omits the thopter combo for hand disruption and damnations)

If we’re a combo deck we need to be a combo deck. If we want hellbent bridge walkers we need to go that direction. I think over the last year humans has really shoved the meta into forcing you to pick a lane and go all in on it (sadly, because durdly decks are fun).

Yeah, I’ve always leaned toward a more artifact dense build than a few on here. If you’re UB midrange don’t play sai, and also don’t play herald. He’s meant to be cheated out by artifact dense decks.

Sai needs to be a 2x in everyone’s SB. If he goes unchecked in g2 or 3 the game ends instantly. The herald is not worth the energy now that Sai’s printed IMHO

That’s really a cool list. It feels like a more rugged version of the midrange concept that’s been floating around here. Bravo and nice brewing, keep posting your list as it evovles!

in my experience getting kci out is faster and easier to do than time sieve. Once it’s out it puts your opponent in a distinct position of having to find a specific out. Technically time sieve wins the game when you go infinite with it and you don’t need to worry about decking with it.

Having five mana producing permanents soon enough is fantastically difficult now, and it seems like the format is only getting faster. I was stuck so many times stressfully trying to “surf” a time sieve with 3 or 4 mana producers sacing my other artifacts to take more turns to hit the required lands - and you fail a lot. KCI you say “infinite life infinite thopters” which you can do eot with whir which catches even a lot of players with wrath ot EE by surprise.

It’s KCI for me and not even close.

I finally brought out a deck tonight and cashed in a small tourney with it. I’ve been brewing on @the_nobodys list from a few months ago and I think there’s something really special going on.

    Thought I’d post.

    4 mox opal
    3 welding jar
    4 mishra’s bauble
    1 krark-clan ironworks
    4 thopter foundry
    4 sword of the meek
    4 whir of invention

    4 faithless looting
    2 Ideas Unbound
    3 Cathartic Reunion
    3 steelshaper’s gift
    3 lingering souls

    1 spirebluff canal
    2 seachrome coast
    3 island
    1 spire of industry
    3 glimmervoid
    2 hallowed fountain
    1 steam vents
    1 watery grave
    3 flooded strand
    1 scalding tarn
    2 polluted delta
    1 misty rainforest

SB very much up for debate
    4 monastery mentor
    2 wear/tear
    2 ceremonious rejection
    2 paradoxical outcome
    1 whipflare
    4 detention sphere

The fuel of the deck is that the forward momentum of your draw sorceries is doubly powerful because you can either sacrifice an artifact to get a discarded sword back into play or you can flashback lingering souls to get a discarded sword back. In the sideboarded games when they go insane on stonys etc monastery mentor tokens also trigger a returning sword. There are just a ton of cool synergies and a ton of ways to power forward into an infnite combo.

The final cool thing about this deck is that my meta is very control heavy so being able to pressure them with must-counter lingering souls is a great way to get your thopter sword combo back online.

Any thoughts would be cool, but feel free to test it out. Thoughts on the mana base/SB appreciated.

it's sad but makes sense that the cards that shore up the tron M/U will make our lives harder as well

Yeah, I think Sultai can be really cool. The big problem for trying to put thopter sword into a midrange shell for me was a weakness to tron, but asassin’s tropy solves that problem. Also I think tron might just be done - which is awesome.

    That deck is so lame.

Vraska could be a really good build around card for us. It’s not as good as tez behind a bridge with its plus, but it’s still good and the minus can get us out of some sideboard day ruining cards and then put us in a position to grind to a win. Also having a bunch of Phage the Untouchable thopters could be very cool.

The squee tech is really rad

I remember that deck well. So cool. It was designed to beat splinter twin and is mostly irrelevant to today’s meta.

@deleno sometimes the deck is great, sometimes it’s clunky and dies. It’s a two card combo that doesn’t instantly win the game. You have to love the deck and keep tuning it or play some actual tier one deck. But you’re right, is the juice worth the squeeze? If trying to take down a big tournament - no. Not currently.

Yeah, the downside to having a reactionary deck is that you have to have a decent understanding of most of the decks in modern.

Where/what is the full art Tezzeret?

It does fine, he’s been messing with a similar build for over a year and taking down big tourneys. It’s why I said not for the faint of heart. The wins are sloppy and grindy, but it has the tools to beat everything
