Nervous about my upcoming pptq. Gonna take it to an IQ this weekend and then Regionals to hopefully get a fill of the meta around where i am playing. So I can be pretty prepared.
I rather not tap out on turn two or three to play a Talisman. That's when other people are playing their most important spells. So I'd rather hold up a counterspell.
Both people that are really supporting the opt plan have the chalices in the board. We arnt cutting them completely we are moving one from the main to the side. Its not a "i cant afford the cards" thing, its a i've now played three comp leagues with two 4-1 and a 5-0 finish and NuBlkAu has had similar results. Did you read the posts? We have chalices in the side and thats where they are good. If chalice is good against 40% of the field then it shouldnt be a main deck card. I want my main to cover the 60% first and then bring in the hate for that other 40% post board.
Search for azcanta is too slow and this is a deck that really doesnt like to tap out unless it wins the game. Which is why opt is so excellent, you keep up your mana and dig for the combo or whatever.
I think with the opts you dont need the trinket mages to find the sb hate now. I'm liking the 2 treasure mage main which allows you to go pretty hard on slaver g1 when interaction is very minimal, and then opt gets you too the chalice/ee/other hate post board. Currently my list has the same main as NuBlkAu with a trade of snap for his second wurm. My Sb is: 2 chailce, 1 ee, 1 tormod's crypt, 1 trinisphere, 1 aetherize, 3 spatial, 2 dismember, 2 spreading seas, 1 wurmcoil, 1 walking balista. So as you can see the opts weren't "budget concerns" they were just better imo.
The person who I was replying to said he couldn't afford Chalice's. I thought that was clear by the fact that I also mentioned Spatial Contortion like he did. And to answer your question, no, when I don't visit this site for weeks I don't read all the posts I miss.
I also only play on paper, so idk what a competitive league is. I can only assume that it is equivalent to an fnm.
Umm, cutting chalice or Spatial are both terrible ideas. If you can't afford to buy Chalices than you can't afford to buy Mono U Tron. I'm sorry, that is harsh but the way it is.
Took Mono U to a pptq victory. Decided to throw the second Ugin in the deck. Meta was very receptive. Beat Death Shadow, 8 Rack, g/r Ponza, Jeska COntrol, and Dredge. Was a good day.
Wasn't the biggest fan of the sideboard after the event. There was a ton of G/W Company, so I was happy about my last minute addition of the Cages.
Summary Dismissal, Crucible, and Sundering Titan were meh. Sundering Titan was a last minute cut for the second Wurmcoil. I only brought it in twice, once against Naya Company, and the other against Eldrazi Tron(just wanted a huge ass creature)
If I had known that there was going to be so many CoCo decks I would have jammed the second Ugin vs the Sundering Titan.
Conceded to Hunter Nance in the last round of a PPTQ with Mono U. Deck felt solid. Lost my first match of the day and then didn't drop a single game for the rest of the tournament. Felt good. If someone wants to see a decklist let me know.
The only thing that stood out to me really was that I really wished I had played a second Ugin. But there was a tooooooon of g/w/x company decks there. I made a last minute call to include two Grafdiggers Cage in my sideboard and I was very happy with it
Alright, that is fair. I just wanted to try it out. i was pretty hesitant about the extra mana requirement, and giving my opponent a choice. But I thought the upside to the card would make up for it.
So I have been on U tron for maybe the past 7 months. I am about to take it to the largest tournament yet. I'm just not 100% happy about the configuration. So the most recent changes that I have made with it have been this
6/17 - Replaced Solemn Simulacrum & Thirst For Knowledge with Walking Ballista and Gifts Ungiven. I haven't really tested these cards very much since putting them in.
Gifts Ungiven helps you find a wincon when you need one. Even having synergy with Academy Ruins to recur an artifact that might get dropped in the bin. I thought Walking Ballista would help boost the already favorable Counters Company matchup, as well as getting a few points on Dredge. Since you can pick off their Bloodghasts and Narcomeabasm, so far he has been lackluster against that matchup
5/17 - Replaced 2 Islands with 2 Gemstone Caverns. Then took out 2 Squelches, 1 Engineered Explosives, and 1 Spreading Seas out of the sideboard to make room for 1 Island, 2 Surgical Extractions, and 1 Tectonic Ed. Thought that the Caverns would work really well with the Chalices and Condescends. They've mostly felt meh to me. Really thinking about moving the Tec Edge and Island to main and just dropping the Gemstone Caverns all together, drawing two of them just feels bad. The sideboard switchup felt much needed. Though I really missed the second Spreading Seas, everything else I was fine with losing.
Going forward to Roanoke. I am thinking about cutting the following cards
I have a month and a half till my RPTQ, and unless the meta shifts in such a way to invalidate aggro, my deck will have 4 chalice's in the 75.

Got to Squelch a g/b tron player out of the game. That was worth the trip in itself.
Yeah, pretty excited. I know it's not much but I am undefeated at my lgs for like the last 6 weeks. As long as I don't go 0-3, I'll be happy.
