. Its nice but without allied color support, its a spit at the unwritten rule of "allied > enemy".

I don't see this as a rule at all, W/R was a very powerful combination at the very beginnings of magic- definitely as powerful as W/U and certainly more powerful than R/G or B/R. Allied pairings are just more common is all, and a historically easier fix.

I am really glad about this though, I feel that red has finally been getting the love it deserves lately with the printing of cards like volcanic fallout and banefire. There was way too long where it felt like red was getting the short end of the stick in comparison to it's enemies- blue being king of course.

I vote for force spike and rancor as the blue and green 1cc power slots, though I can't think of a good white one other than stp and with pte out that's just not going to happen.

Umm.. Not really the right place for this, but does anyone think that maybe the new banned/restricted announcements have anything to do with this? I mean they do seem to be nerfing blue by restricting thirst for knowledge (though instant card draw seems to be their target lately). Hugely surprised that they're unrestricting entomb though, as well as crop rotation.

edit: it just seems that they want to "fix" blue by upping the power level of other colours- giving red back lightning bolt back would be a step in that kind of process.

  • posted a message on How do you feel about the new rules?
Not happy about virtually all the rule changes.

Terminology changes: I wouldn't be so dissapointed if they hadn't nerfed the wishes et al by only erratering every other card and not the aforementioned wishes. What do you mean I can't get my creature back from your swords to plowshares with my living wish? That's flavour?

Mana burn: eldamri's vineyard + orim's chant isn't a kill any more. Making bad mana plays doesn't punish anymore. Faeries just got signifacantly better, hell piracy is simply ass now.

Combat Damage: I can't get into this as I don't have the time or space to truly vent my apoplyctic rage, so I'll just point out that it was not needed and just change for change's sake- not for the best interest of the game. I mean they had to rewrite the rules for deattouch just for it. Plus giving all the power of decisions to the defending player(by deciding in which order the attacker gets to assign damage) is absolutely ********.

Lifelink: you mean I get to live if combat damage would have killed me but my lifelink puts me back above 0, stupid.

end of turn: dumb, but I can at least accept this one.

    here's a quick idea

    ajani triumphant 2UW

+1 loyalty: Return target non-land permantent to it's owner's hand.
    -2 loyalty: Exile target creature.
-6 loyalty: Return target creature in exile to play under your control.

    3 base loyalty.

nice idea..but in this way purple spells are limited of max casting cost of 5.

Unless you had two purple mana symbols,or more, in your casting cost. I still doubt that we're going to see purple mana though. I don't think Maro could keep still on that.

edit: sorry about the redundant info, should read rest of post before posting.

I noticed some people mention that Progenitus would be good in oath, but in fact this is over all worse then whats currently played in it, Hellkite Overlord, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, beacuse it take a turn longer to kill.

Actually it kills quicker than Akroma, Angel of Wrath and in the same number of turns as Hellkite Overlord. Doesn't strike first turn for sure but it only takes 2 hits rather than 3 for hellkite and 4 for Akroma. Plus it doesn't die to Swords to plowshares and/or random bounce, and it can get pitched to Force of Will/Misdirection.
I think it will be the new kill creature in Oath. It's just too bad that Oath is no longer relevant in competetive Vintage.

Hey does anyone know about the interaction with hightide and islands that come into play after resolution. Do those islands tap for two?
    thx,

  • posted a message on mana burn and life loss?
Hey, first time poster(is that grammatically correct?) here with a rules question about mana burn. I usually play free for all multiplayer and recently played with some new people who claim that mana burn can no longer reduce your life total to below 1. I couldn't find any reference to this in the comp rules but they claimed that they had confirmation from a judge at a tournament and that there was a WOTC announcement of it. Can anyone here confirm that, or send a link of where I can find some official rulings?

    Thx
