  • posted a message on Why must draft selections be placed face down?
When you know everyone's picks it also changes the games themselves. When your opponents know who got which bombs/tricks/removal spells you can't bluff that well and don't have to play around possible tricks. Simply takes away a lot of depth from the game.

Since it's not card art from any card in the set I'd say it's a picture that's made specifically for the box.

Regular Control Magic variants at rare would be pretty lame...

Yep, they're strong but not as hard to handle as people seem to think.

Some burn that does more damage when redirected would be fun though :p
Directly killing Planeswalkers would be a flavor nightmare (and make no sense, because why kill that Jace if you could kill that other Planeswalker Jace is helping and instantly win?), the closes black will get is Despise

How about making it so that positive loyalty counters are not a "cost" but happen when the ability resolves?

Cool! I'll use all the Planeswalkers' ultimates right after I cast them since it's not a cost anymore Smile

Stop trying to fix Planeswalkers. The card type isn't a problem, individual cards are. It's like saying Equipment shouldn't be equippable the turn they enter the field because Jitte and Skullclamp are too strong.

  • posted a message on How do you carry your decks around with you?
Yep. Random long boxes with room for a couple of decks, one of those plastic ones or just some fat pack box. Throw them in your backpack and it's fine. Uses a lot less room too.

DFC's are just annoying, having to flip and resleeve them during games, then flip and resleeve them back after the game (which everyone forgets to do so they need to do it mid game when they draw the flipped card), no to mention they almost always get shuffled into a deck after a game so they need to take it out and then go through thier library to make sure the right proxy card is in there ...

It's just a very clumsy implimentation of showing cards changing from one thing to another.

Don't you think you're exaggerating here? Put them in a clear sleeve, put the checklist card in a regular sleeve, replace when needed and put the checklist card next to the graveyard. No need to unsleeve/flip/sleeve all the time, checklists will be shuffled back in and if someone accidentally shuffles in his transforms they'll notice when they see a clear sleeve/the transform card and can put it aside without any problems.
Level Up was ok, but left so little room for text and flips were plain annoying. I wasn't a fan of transform cards and still hate how ugly the checklists are in the deck (which can easily be avoided by just getting a 2nd set of your transforms and sleeving them up so the non-transformed side shows if you're bothered enough by the checklists), but they're not a problem to play with at all.

Has anyone else had these type of troubles with a common card before??

Heh yea, not with a common but an uncommon, but relative to the number of packs opened I guess it counts.
When Time Spiral was new we drafted it a lot (we do drafts once a week and during Time Spiral we sometimes drafted twice a day, the set also drew back a lot of friends who hadn't played since around Tempest or Urza) and came back to the block later when we found cheap boxes or just were bored of the current sets (*cough* Lorwyn *cough* Alara *cough*) so all in all I've opened at least a dozen boxes of Time Spiral over the years and I still have only 1 Paradise Plume - and that one's foil!

I haven't played with the set yet, but seeing the cards in the spoiler and later the pictures and flavor text I really, really love the set. The flavor is great from card design to pictures to flavor text, there's so many cards that make me want to play them for one reason or another, can't remember when I was this excited about almost every single card in a set. (although all the German words like Geist and Kindercatch are pretty annoying)

did you even read his post? he claims there were 24 cards in it

pulling double rares should be fairly common. pulling a garruk + another mythic is pretty amazing

Oh sorry, I misread that as "she opened 24 packs and got a 3 rare pack"

if you are buying to have a large collection where you can make a diffrent tournament worthy deck every week then perhaps buying a case or two might be more efficent for you (plus you will have much more trade stock to help you complete anything you don't pull)

Nah, buying 4 rare and mythic sets (or 4 rare sets and the individual mythics you want) would still be cheaper.
If boxes could make you money the box prices would go up. Basic economy.

Why would they be thicker? They have the exact same amount of cards in them.
There's a slot in the booster for transform cards which might be a common, uncommon, rare or mythic rare transform card just like with the Planar Chaos planeshifted cards

Oh btw does anyone know how foils work in this set? There can be foil transforms in the transform slot, does that mean there can be two foils in a pack? One foil transform in the transform slot and one regular in a common slot?

I usually buy 2-3 boxes when a set comes out to draft with. But, as said by all those people above, that's the only thing boxes are any good for. It used to be hard to cut even from buying boxes before they introduced mythic rarity, but since there's mythic rares you're pretty much guaranteed to get only half the box's price back if you don't open multiple chase mythics.
If you just want cards go buy 4 common sets and get the rest individually.

Be careful with that, because most people use a 90-degrees rotated card to represent an exiled card, so it could cause confusion.

As most people have said, it's mainly a matter of practice. As you play more, you'll be able to evaluate the board quicker, and be able to continuously evaluate more things as the game goes on.

Never ever seen this. Everyone I know uses a separate pile next to the graveyard and I've seen some casual players put exiled cards face down under their graveyard, but that's the only variants I know. Why would anyone mix two zones in a single pile and mark where they belong by tapping them?

Whenever my deck has any use for cards in my graveyard I put them so I can see all the card names instead of making a clean stack. That reminds me to check my graveyard without using too much room on the table or remember my opponent of possible options in my grave more than I have to.
