I have played god head on Mantis rider also. A 5/5 flyer is great.

    @ stevo
sorry your results were bad. The mulligan rule I think really benifits those decks more than ours. Our hands are more versatile and forgiving with the draw.

Hammertime looks like a new bogles style deck. have the same weakness. Still I like the deck and plan to build it as i already have most of the extra cards.

UW is always a tough match up for me. If they hit multiple Cyrptic Commands, they usually buy themselves enough time to win or stabilize. So I tried [c/]nevermore[c] targeting that card. I lost G2 due to mana screw, and never got to try nevermore again vs UW.

    What about Cabal Therapist?
It can sacrifice itself, seems strong against combo/control deck and could be an interesting 0 mana discard outlet

I feel the card is limited by it's own restrictions. Not as good as thought-seize or other 1 drop discard spells. Sacing a creature you want to be attacking with is a little off strategy for the deck. The once per turn before combat is the part I really do not like. If you could use it multiple times a turn it would be broken.
If you plan on using it on yourself then it is a negitive card gain (unless you can pitch multiple GY recurrsion creatures into you yard and get out a H1 for free). Which sounds great but is a bit like Christmas dreams.

If you can chain few spells together Mentor is good vs all decks. It just dies easy as it is a known threat and it is hard to play it T3 with out protection.

by T3 I am trying to get my H1 out or digging deeper into my deck, Pyro at T3 seems bad as there are better things to do that turn, T4-5+ is where I would look to play him to refill and to drop GY cards recursion. Skelator is good any time as it provides value in the opponents hands disruption as well as damage.

I wonder if Hexmage Vampire will see play in the future if that tread continues.

    Jeskia decks prefer useful/versitile

I had not realized stifle was not modern legal. The more I think on Tale's end the more I like the card. It hits Affinity, Hardenen Scales Affinity,Hollow One, Lands,Re-Animater, several random cards that ETB. it hits most of the commonly played creatures (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/format-staples/modern/full/creatures)

    [c/]Tale’s End[c]

    [c/]Stifle[c]

For one more mana you get legendary.
Price wise I agree with you.

What would your plan of useage be? try to take out fetchlands, Tron disruption, Utility spell? Seems like more of a tempo then counter spell.

The list looks really good. I think a 4 of the unearth is a better choice over the goblin lore.

    @Cholenberg
I ran a list similar years ago when I first started build.
I am not a big fan of the reverler (sorry Curdbros) But love Mantis & St Traft. [c/]steel of the godhead [c] works so good with these.
You could drop a Path and add a [c/]forked bolt[c]
I like Ypyro over Swiftspear, you gain more value holding up mana during your opponents turn, where you have to cast on your turn with the Spear to be aggressive (which is why I disfavor the reveler). I like the Mantis for the same reasons 3/3 vigilance is no joke.

For Lands you could go ultra budget and use pain lands [c/] shivan reef [c] ect. Your deck may be fast enough to mitigate early life loss ( on average with the shocklands and fetchlands the life loss is close to the same early game).

Welcome to the party, good luck and have fun.

On another note, why does WOTC hate us? Is life gain aggro always going to be relegated to standard viability? It seems like they throw us a bone every set, but each one is... garbage lol. I do believe there will be new lists pop up using MH cards, but no one has found the right mix yet.

But the cards almost look good. It is like they are trying to build a SS martyr deck for standard or for New to Modern players. A real card would be a Lingering souls type card or a new ascendant. Instead they print copys with higher CMC that function less. Other decks have speed up their tempo while ours has been left behind.

If you really look at our lists they have not changed since M15. Sure we try new cards but they are not "better".
    Sorry to rant.

@mnelson; I visit the thread, but I do not play SS very much lately (or any magic). That being said, the new ranger of Eos looks good, and the Serra planeswalker is great. Also got some kitty cat lord support if you play that way. new set looks sweet.

All three are good starting options.
The fetchlands of course will be the most expensive part of the deck.
I would also suggest you consider Jeskai or Esper colors as these give you great sideboard options for cheap. You can transition out of White later.

I think mono U or UR would be the cheapest on start up without fetchlands/shocklands.

Good Luck with your choices and have fun
