Isn't this a little soon? I mean I thought we jumped back to Zendikar soon, but Innistrad was only like 4 1/2 years ago (when this releases).

I understand easing into a two block system by returning to a familiar plane but I though Innistrad was wrapped up neatly Lorewise. Surely there was a different plane to return too before it. Dominaria perhaps? Or do Kamigawa right for once? New Alara?

I'm actually worried they are running out of good planes to return too.

Edit: UGH. JACE. How about WotC use the OTHER Blue Walker that was fairly well received. You know, the one Introduced in Innistrad block? Because Jace is a bad character who never grows.

Makes sense that they would get rid of Planeswalker dual decks. There's twice as many Blocks now to preview.

Also it should preserve some walker prices.

It's a logical change, but not one I enjoy (though I find it easy to accept).

Don't hold your breath for MM2 this year. Too soon. Soonest it can release is 2015, and I don't think they'll put it in the sequel (not many walkers need to be reprinted for Modern, cept Karn, Liberated and it would probably force them to put tribal cards in mm2.)

I expect to see it in the commander product this year.

    Quote from Valanarch
I can't imagine we'll ever see memory lapse reprinted in a standard legal set. If they think mana leak is OP, lapse is a lot worse than mana leak in terms of how much people hate playing against it. It's almost straight time walk honestly, especially on turn 2 on the play. It is also a counterspell that can also land destruction the opponent if they don't have another land in hand in the early game for example and you lapse their play suddenly they fall behind a land drop, had their spell countered, etc. etc. It's in the same boat as remand. Not going to ever happen in standard again.

It's a time walk, other than the combat phase. And the upkeep. And the main phase. And the untap step. That's not a time walk.

It's not a time walk per se. Early game it might as well say "Target spell's controller ends their turn." but what two mana Counter doesn't? The issue of Memory Lapse's power is.

    1. It's WAY too splashable.

    2. Early game it is amazing.

    3. You know your opponent's next draw after it resolves forcing them to repeat the turn.

However it falls off late game sharply. I could see it returning to standard if either it was uncommon in a draw heavy environment, or if it cost 2U like it's cousin Lapse of certainty

It would be weird for them to keyword an ability on only one card. This isn't Future Sight. I'd expect at least 5.

  • posted a message on [[MM]] Why not reprint MM1?
    Quote from krishnath
    Quote from thememan
    Two reasons:

    1. See above. They can't have too much product competition within the same consumer base for different products. MM would sell well, but other products would not. Consumers, after all, have limited incomes to some degree or another. Hence why sets are spaced out as such, and why there are only 2 or so supplemental products each year. They could print a ton of FtVs, Vs. decks, theme decks, event decks, etc each year. But these would ultimately just compete with each other. Wizards is in the business of competing with other companies and brands, not with itself.

    2. Chronicles. Seriously, Chronicles. Like it or not, but cards maintaining value is somewhat necessary for the livelihood of the game. We are already collecting really worthless cardboard. Imagine what it would like if it really *was* worthless. Chronicles was liked by some, but hated by many as it pretty much removed any confidence that anything they had would retain long-term value. Meaning many just didn't buy into the game anymore (Or at least there was the very strong possibility to do so). If Wizards went back on their word that MM would be a limited product run, it would reduce confidence in the long term value of certain cards. Some may not care, but to those who have spent 1000+ on decks for Modern it would be a bit shocking to see happen. Granted, somethings should be expected to be reprinted at some time and those who buy them at insane prices should know better, or don't care as much (Fetchlands, I'm looking at you). But ultimately this is a collectable card game, and part and parcel with that is the concept that certain cards are more valuable than others. If Wizards goes back on their word on something like MM, it will cause a lack of confidence in the company.

That said, I'm sure Wizards realizes that there is a high demand for MM, and will compensate for that in future iterations. They'll still be limited print runs, but not nearly as much as MM1. They do *not* want to repeat the fiasco that was Chronicles.

Chronicles was done to early, simple as that. Had they waited five years it would have been fine.

Agreed. And a person shouldn't have to sell organs for Modern format Staples simply because they weren't playing 10 years ago (before you flame, yes I was playing then. Consistently too.) Sure I can understand maybe not printing Bitterblossom or other rares with value. But when uncommons like Remand (yes, I know it is being reprinted) or Inquisition of Kozilek are double digits, perhaps printing some wouldn't hurt. Noone is planning on retiring off of Serum Visions you know.

    Reserved list new ruling:
Famous card on the reserved list: Print a new version/ make them a planeswalker.

Things they can do with the reserved list include changing color, mana cost, or ability. They could make a New version of Baron Sengir and just change "+2/+2 counter" to "two +1/+1 counters" and it would be okay.

I was like "Please let it be Mind Sculptor, please let it be Mind Sculptor...."

*looks* DAMN IT! Yeah yeah I know it got "reprinted" in FTV:20 but come on that FTV was a joke. Jace and Venser plus... a crapload of uncommons and commons.

Anyways I don't mind the art. Vraska art is gorgeous. I think the Jace art might actually look cooler in person in all it's foily glory. I like the pose.

Yes. Commons like cruel ultimatum chameleon collossus gilded lotus akroma's vengeance are uncommon.

You have to remember, most of the rares in the first 8 years of Magic that appeared in the winning decklists are reserved...

Has anyone done a list of 'I'd like to see this character as a Walker?' I think that'd be more interesting - would certainly be a worthy Create The Card event.

I'd love to see Serra as a Walker - but there would have to be a serious hunt for artwork that would be worthy...

Unfortunatly, they have said they aren't doing dead walkers anymore. Urza needs a better card to live through then blind seer.

Strange that they wait until RTR has just 6 months left in standard before releasing this. By then Ravnica block will feel like very old news.
Do they always do Duel Decks this way?

    Ever since Venser vs Koth.
