If this is really something that is going to be pursued, protecting the As Foretold is 100% key. More of the denial spells like Gigadrowse in turns 1-2 so we keep them off spells would be important. It feels like one of the only cards to mess up your day, in this case, would be abrupt decay. I'm sure there are other instant speed cards that would really goof you up, but none that come to mind ATM.

Greater Auramancy would protect As Foretold & Dictate of Kruphix from Abrupt Decay and the like. If you're playing things like Runed Halo you could also benefit from Greater Auramancy - just something to think about with the Foretold Turns style deck.

Those are all solid options, but I think ultimately the key will be building it closely in parallel to the more 'stock' lists but with a different sort of engine to get you going.

Correct, if they have the removal for the first As Foretold, then you just have to play another. These are not bad in multiples like other cards tend to be. Except when your opp has the maelstrom pulse Crying

Just got my new art foil playsets; Opt and Spell Pierce so I'm all ready for FNM!

At least Maelstom Pulse can be countered, unlike Abrupt Decay. I do agree, however, that just playing the normal disruption and countermagic is the best plan. Hopefully, you have more As Foretolds than the enemy has Abrupt Decays if you come across it.

On a different note, chalice on x=1 destroys this deck, so we probably won't be playing chalice ourselves. What are good sideboard options for this version as the one posted is frankly awful? Do you guys think anything really needs to change from normal mono U sideboard builds?

Obviously, this list is very different from the common mono U turns deck, (As Foretold + Ancestral Vision + Elixir and no Parts.) but it is interesting that his win condition is milling the opponent via Mikokoro, Geier Reach Sanitarium and AVs, two copies of Elixir keep him going while he does this tedious process.

Corbin talks about some of his choices in the deck here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLW22NlkuzY&index=4&list=PLxg8UAfS2YJbqq0PDvXsy8j9LVIdJAcEd at 15:40. This gives us some insight towards his card choices, (four cryptics, seas vs remands in the main etc.)

Also, watching through his 4 games, I've noticed that the 9 maindeck, (4 sv, 4 opt, 1 sleight) cantrips let him keep starting hands that don't have any because he will draw into them very soon. Just something to think about with the addition of opt.

Huh, didn't know that, thanks for the tip! I do have Erayo in my EDH deck, I guess I'll take it out when I play in official games. That being said, the discussion that you quoted was me asking for help converting this deck into a casual 60 card deck, so Erayo would be fine for that.

Wow, I love the deck! Puts everything that I love about control with added prison bonuses. I've been looking to use GAAF for awhile, now might be the time! My playgroup doesn't play commander very often though :(, any tips for converting this into a 60 card, (casual) deck?

Here's the list I have right now, 37 spells, leaving room for a 23 card mana base. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/12-04-17-no-spells.

Wow, I honestly didn't expect a reply this quickly, thanks! Baral, Chief of Compliance is definitely a great card in the deck. I'm also thinking of maybe putting in Erayo, Soratami Ascendant for a pseudo lock, with all of the cheap counterspells and such I think it will be fairly easy to flip, (Gigadrowse seems pretty reliable to do that, while also tapping down lands or potential attackers). And of course if you have a flipped Erayo, along with Rule of Law or Eidolon of Rhetoric well... isn't that nice! (For you). I've run Dream Cache in a few of my other prison/control decks, and it's actually fairly useful, particularly if you're trying to set up a prison lock and you need one more combo piece so you tutor with Long-term plans and then play the cache: there it is!

The last combo sounds funny, but it's a little too gimmicky and doesn't quite fit the deck that I'm trying to build. (I find combos requiring 3 cards or more to be quite difficult to play, and I don't think it's worth it taking up that many cards slots just to be able to draw a ton of cards; look at it this way, the combo requires 3 cards with a total of 7-9 mana, well if I am trying to combo, I'll probably have at least 3 of each, if not four in the deck. I just don't think taking up 12 slots is worth it for a 7 mana combo that ultimately wouldn't do a bunch, after all, I can only play so many counterspells a turn, though [card]Laboratory Maniac[card] would be an option at that point, I guess).

As far as win cons go, though Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir & Knowledge pool are probably more reliable, Aura Thief & Enchanted Evening sound like a lot more fun to kill everyone with their own stuff, or just take all of their lands and poke them to death with Baral, Chief of Compliance and GAAF.

I haven't yet decided on draw cards, obviously instant/sorcery spells like Divination would synergize with Baral, Chief of Compliance, but Rhystic Study would net either more cards or slow down the opponents in the long run. I'm working on a decklist right now, I'll post it here when it's mostly complete.

OK that makes sense, thanks! At the very least it would ensure that you can keep the combo going once it has started, but after 6 times you should have probably won as you said.

Has anyone tried Archmage Ascension in the deck? It seems like it would work really with the extra drawing and extra turns.
