I don't see a Standard (let alone Modern) deck that would want this. For Mono-U it provides no tempo and you'd rather just cast the djinn for 1 less and have mana open for a counter. Any U-based control is unlikely to play creatures that will just eat removal and provide no immediate value. So that leaves some sort of a newly formed midrange deck with U. But given that role is already partially filled by Dimir with much more interesting Thiefs and Hostage Takers, I don't see a road to success for this particular card.

Sooooo... two of these plus Slimefoot = infinite saprolings? I mean, it is a three card combo that folds to mass removal, but if an Adapt deck does emerge in Standard, splashing black for Slimefoot seems like a no brainer. Since nothing requires haste, you can even do it for 7 mana against a tapped out opponents (I know, I know, unlikely, but against the current Golgari Midrange, not unreasonable).

EDIT: I guess the translation means that no ability can cost less than 1 mana? It makes it sound as though mana abilities can't be reduced to 0 - which would make sense to prevent infinite mana combos.

When was the last time we got instant speed discard? That alone should easily point to this being fake. The art already existing is the last nail in the coffin.

Well, that's one way to make sure WU-based controls don't get out of hand. A mechanic that rewards you for casting during your own turn isn't exactly something control would jump at.

Interestingly enough, the mechanic is forced to only appear on Instants (and cards with Flash, though I doubt we will get many).

guess i'll have to dump mine before they're totally worthless.

Players complain the price of a card being too high and then bemoan the reprinting of said card because its value will drop. Somebody explain this to me.

It's almost like there's two groups of people with different interests...

There's one Grand Prix in a reasonable distance from me in the current schedule, and of course it's Sealed Ultimate Masters. That's just bound to be a silly format for competitive.

    What?

How are you expected to play with this? Bring some string and lay down a path between the token and the original?

Also, the art seems strangely specific for a token that can be anything.

Not to mention baby comes back with organic material...whereas Huatli still could not. So I don't see why this baby would be able to walk with organic material but no one else could.

Who knows, it might be the baby's "special ability"?

I think phyrexian mana is odd, does that count? And hybrid mana is even more odd... Rolleyes

Maybe Never Gonna // Give You Up next time we have split cards.

Any chance we get more than one Parter With pair per pairing?

Never // Give Up doesn't seem impossible...

But again, that could have been told through off-screen dialogue without Karn and Teferi actually appearing.

To that I would say "Be careful what you wish for".

Well considering how much we were actually told about Karn's/Teferi's plans, would it really be that much different? This is what I would do:

Start with Jhoira rebuilding the weatherlight and assembling the team. Spend the next few chapters building up Belzenlok as the villain - how he rose to power, why he should be feared, establish him as a threat. While investigating and preparing for the fight, Jhoira learns from side characters what Karn and Teferi are up to (this could be as cryptic or as concrete as you want, both would serve to establish background for future stories). Last couple of chapters are focused on the actual fight with Belzenlok - with Jhoira meeting Gideon/Liliana somewhere in the stronghold (perhaps captured due to Liliana being weakened and Gideon doubting himself or refusing to use the Blackblade) and joining forces out of necessity. If the next story is focused on Teferi, have him show up last second in a classic "looks like we're beaten, what could save us now?" moment (Teferi learns that Jhoira has been asking about him at the Academy and decides to keep an eye on things for example.)

Loved this chapter. My favourite of all. Seeing the characters during their off-time provided another perspective that I much enjoyed. You really have to visualize the mini-scenes in your head to appreciate them though - like that moment with Gideon cleaning his blade.

There really wasn't much actual story so far - it all seems very insignificant to the greater worldstate. Liliana could have used the veil to kill Belzenlok in the first chapter and got captured by Bolas afterwards and nothing much would have been lost. The old characters coming back just seem like a nod to fans without much impact - you could have written the story the same without them and the Weatherlight.

I suppose it does prepare things for two future stories - Karn in Phyrexia and Teferi handling Zhalfir. But again, that could have been told through off-screen dialogue without Karn and Teferi actually appearing.

Just reading the last few pages I get the feeling that you guys are discussing the same point with the same arguments, just different words. Autumn is obviously not going to move from the established position so I don't see the point of trying.

I do agree that the stories feel rushed, but I remain hopeful in assuming it was originally meant to cover 2 sets and had to be condensed into one set worth of stories. One major point I dislike in the writing, which has been brought up here as well, is how the dialogue is presented. Pretty much every single sentence (or a set of sentences by the same character) are either preceded or succeeded by some descriptor. When two people are talking, I much prefer to have the dialogue without anything else (after it's established) and have the tone/emotions conveyed by the way the dialogue is written. It's clear who's saying what when it's just two people and you put each reply as a different paragraph and it keeps the reader immersed.

It would be cool if the cabal rebuilt some old phyrexian artifacts or war machines or got a hold of some old phyrexian magic or technology. That would probably give enough reason to have all those members fight them. Probably won't happen though

Well we still don't know what exactly is happening in Yavimaya, where Chandra's chapter is likely to take place. Considering the dormant/reclaimed Phyrexian relicts there, we could see some connection.
