Recap:
-Tutored for Necropotence.
-Dropped tons of Rat Colony.
-Killed incel opponent.
-Killed cool opponent.
-Incel opponent immediately packed up, left the room, then returned to a different table.
Recap:
-Went for the early Yuriko + Draco combo.
Cool opponent permanently phased out my Yuriko.
Improvised w/Painter's Servant + Grindstone combo.
-Killed incel opponent.
Incel opponent coached cool opponent.
Killed cool opponent.
-Incel opponent berated cool opponent for not playing perfectly.
Incel opponent got mad when I argued back to him.
Judge Matt congratulated me on winning w/a variation of his deck.
Matt informed me Yuriko gained a reputation.
Will leave Yuriko home until further notice.
I played the exact same list as last time. Different venue, different meta. What I didn't expect was all these indestructible artifact lands. The hell? LOL
My Boros opponent noted his Revoke Existence hits those pesky indestructible artifact lands. And I already had white mana. So if I take his suggestion seriously (Why not? I don't have any better ideas!) then this is what my new list would look like:
Recap:
Turn 1: unblockable 1 drop.
Turn 2: attack, ninjitsu commander.
Turn 3: tutor for Draco. Attack and deal 16.
Turn 4: Brainstorm for 16 more.
Turn 5: reveal tutor for immediate concessions.
According to our commander scoresheet, I earned +5 points but was penalized -8 points (win by turn 5 or earlier.) So I really finished last at -3 points
Comer ran 17 lands/61 cards. Divide 17/61 and you get 28% lands.
Comer ran 12 cantrips/61 cards. Divide 12/61 and you get 20% cantrips.
Since the cantrip rule is: 2 cantrips = 1 land, Comer essentially ran a 23 land deck/38% mana.
I run 29 mana/99 cards. Divide 29/99 and you get 29% mana.
I run 19 cantrips/99 cards. Divide 19/99 and you get 19% cantrips.
Combine both and you get 39/99 or 39% mana.
Comer’s mana curve tops out at 4. I top out at 3. My curve is lower but I have mana sinks.
Round 2 vs Mono Blue Ninjitsu. 0-2.
-SB: +4 Aerial Volley, -4 Lignify.
-Game 1, I had spare mana so I Lignify'd his creature. He attacked and ninjitsu'd it. Once his first ninja got thru, I had to defend his card advantage while trying to destroy his lands. He's a better player now, compared to the last time we met.
-Game 2, I used Cave of Temptation on a Llanowar Elves instead of Hooting Mandrills b/c he had 1 Island open and I was worried about Vapor Snag, Unsummon or some other 1 drop removal. On board he survived by blocking correctly and living at 1 life. There was a chance I could top deck Aerial Volley off monarch and live but that was an unnecessary risk. My bad.
Round 3 vs Boggles. 2-0.
-SB: +4 Reverent Silence, -4 Lignify.
-I made a bad attack again by leaving him at 1 life. At this point, I openly admitted I'm bad at combat match and recalled how many games I punted in the past by glancing at the board state and attacking conservatively (a control player trait) instead of actually calculating math (an aggro requirement.) Now that I'm accountable for my terribad math, I can work to improve upon it.
-LD + Reverent Silence was just too much for him.
Deck Prize Breakdown:
1st - UW Birds.
2nd - me.
3rd - Mono Blue Ninjitsu.
4th - 8th, idk b/c I left after I got my prize. So in alphabetical order:
-Boggles (2.)
-GB Self-Mill.
-RB Affinity/Madness.
-UB Ninjitsu.
I loaned this deck to Monty, an acquaintance.
He boarded out creatures for SB cards. I don't agree w/that b/c it lowers devotion and I only run 16 creatures.
Test vs RDW (me.) 0-2.
Round 1, win vs blue.
Round 2, win vs Golgari Self-Mill.
Round 3, loss vs Tron.
After 10 long months… finally... the Rock… has come back... to 07/07/23's Pauper!
7 players, 3 rounds. 1-2 match record, 2-4 game record. 6th place.

I've never dealt w/annoying artifacts or enchantments (besides indestructible artifact lands) except vs UrzaTron. And the LD plan is what works there.
Thermokarst is the best LD b/c it's 3 mana.
Mwonvuli Acid-Moss is 2nd best b/c it ramps you.
Drain the Well is 3rd best b/c it helps you stabilize vs RDW.
Reap and Sow is last b/c you need 6 mana for value.
I'd suggest testing my list 1st to see if artifacts and enchantments bother you. If you still need Reclaiming Vines, cut Reap and Sow for it.

My Boros opponent noted his Revoke Existence hits those pesky indestructible artifact lands. And I already had white mana. So if I take his suggestion seriously (Why not? I don't have any better ideas!) then this is what my new list would look like:

Painter's Servant Combos:
+Grindstone = infinite mill to an opponent.
+Grindstone + Thassa's Oracle = self mill ftw.
+Force of Negation/Force of Will/Misdirection = pitch_any_card for a free counter spell.
+Thassa, God of the Sea = easy devotion for the Sea God.
My inspiration for this build came from Hall of Famer, Alan Comer.
Here's "Turbo Xerox," Comer's signature deck that introduced the world to cantrips:

Killer Kombos:
Necropotence + Reliquary Tower/Thought Vessel + Ivory Tower = lots of cards_and_life.
Dark Confidant/Dark Tutelage + Scroll Rack/Sensei's Divining Top = land (pay 0 life) or Top (pay 1 life.)
31 Rat Colony + 1 Pack Rat + 1 Marrow-Gnawer = 33/100 or 33% rats. 33% = tribal minimum.

*vs Tron, +3 Bojuka Bog, -3 Kabira Crossroads.
Round 1 vs RB Affinity/Madness. 2-0.
-SB: +4 Trufflesnout, -4 Lignify.
-His deck wasn't tuned to beat mine. He ran Rakdos Carnarium, a juicy LD target. He also ran snow-covered lands, which hilariously gained me 1 life off Thermokarst! Versus burn, I'll take it
-Reap and Sow fetched Kabira Crossroads and Radiant Fountain. They kept my life healthy vs his burn.
Round 2 vs Mono Blue Ninjitsu. 0-2.

17 Swamp
4 Witch’s Cottage

3 Unexpectred Fangs
Imo, Phyrexian Rager is overrated. You only draw 1 card and only gain 1 devotion.
Night’s Whisper draws 2 cards and only costs 2 mana (making it a cantrip - allows you to cut 1 Swamp.)
-vs RDW: +3 Unexpected Fangs, -3 Sufficating Fumes.
-vs Boggles: +4 Choking Sands, -4 Tendrils of Corruption.
I loaned this deck to Monty, an acquaintance.

Tested vs lifegain and Fireblast waits to be the finisher that never comes.
These 3 cards don’t want to be paired w/an early Fireblast:
-Needle Drop
-Reckless Impulse
-Skewer the Critics
Test vs Mono Black Devotion, 2-0.
SB: +4 Relic of Progenitus, -4 Keldon Marauders.
Test2 vs Tron, 2-0.
SB +4 Molten Rain, +4 Relic of Progenitus, +4 Smash to Smithereens. -4 Keldon Marauders, -4 Searing Blaze, -4 Voldaren Epicure.
