I'm working on an Animar Soul of Elements deck featuring more Eldrazi.
I want something that isn't crazy competitive but also not super casual and I don't think I have that.
Part of me thinks I may be better taking a tried and true list.
I've also got way too many cards so I need to trim things down.
As I noted I have a good bunch of these cards so assembling the rest won't be bad.
I'm not sold on the counter spell package I've got so if I should change it let me know.
I'm using Ojutai's Command as a budget 3rd Cryptic Command.
Also, maybe Dragonlord Ojutai/Minamo, School at Waters Edge Combo instead of Vendilion Clique.
Please play any other counterspell except Ojutais Command, that card is actually awful.

Only thing about this is I would suggest another verdict. Also Ojutai's is underwhelming it might be better to move your counterspell package to a hard counter such as disallow or summary dismissal, or run a blessed alliance because it has a ton of flexibility using 2 modes for the same cost.
I'm thinking Disallow is a good option in here but should it replace Mana Leak or run 1 Mana Leak and 2 Disallow? I'd have to pull something else.

Thinking about building Bogles to round out my Modern decks - I've got many and just want to even my numbers out plus have something fun/different to play.
I'm not running Horizon Canopy as it's impossible to find and I don't really want to spend the money on it.
Here's the 75 I've been running with for the last month or so. I've got a lot of Death's Shadow and various flavors of Eldrazi/Tron decks in my meta as the big pains, which is why Crucible is in the main for now. Mechanized Production tries to come in on a Needle to just shut down the big mana decks while I hide behind a Bridge and delay threats as best I can. Does anyone have suggestions on my build to better deal with these decks aside from lots of practice? Thankfully, I have a playtest buddy who has Bant Eldrazi and E-Tron so I get lots of reps against those two decks as my tuning fork of sorts. Thanks in advance.
Eldrazi Tron is what I normally play so I can offer some help.
Go for the Land base, either GQ a Tron piece or a temple and then use Surgical Extraction - maybe both depending on what's in play.
Karn is the major threat if you have a bridge out, remember that you can cast Pithing Needle even without th card you want to target it play.
Get a bridge out quickly as them deck doesn't have much for artifact removal. All is dust is the usual board wipe and only hits coloured.
Anyone running Ulamog in the main now?
Thinking he'd be good since infinite life decks are popping up in my meta now but not sure what to pull for him. I'm running a fairly stock list.
I'm sad I sold this deck and want to build it again (I've still got the fetches since I never sell stuff like that lol).
I was running the Mystical Teachings/Peer Through Depths combo.
I see more lists are now playing 3 Spoils of the Vault and no fetches, is this more optimal? I assume it's so you have more land to pitch to Lightning Storm vs having 3 out of 20 land in your graveyard.
However I'm not 100% not playing lands that ETB tapped since you've already got that with the Temples.
I'm also thinking about running Thoughtseize as a 2-3 of in the main (I've got them so why not). I'm thinking of the following changes:
3 Phyrexian Unlife (1 SB)
Labman in SB (usually in main in my deck)
3 Pentaid Prism maybe.
This would allow me to fit a couple Thoughtseize (I could round out the playset SB). I know the deck is not interactive and to basically wait till you have the mana to combo off but I feel as this isn't the best play now especially in my meta. A turn 1-2 Thoughtseize can be devastating.
Just read the primer, its very good and answers all your questions. Don't brew anything except the stock lists (spoils version if you wanna try it, or a stock peer/mystical list). In a month or so of playing, then maybe look at an adjustment or two.
I feel like everyone who picks up this deck wants to play it, but mess with it too much. There's yet to be a good reason from a new player for changing anything that I've seen and I've been watching this thread for nearly three years now.
Thanks.
I did build the spoils version but made a few changes like I noted - wither or not it works in my favour time will tell. Some of the cards I had anyways so it was cheap to put together. I'm hoping to do some kitchen table testing with it today, I'll post up how it did (I've got pretty much all the popular modern decks).
I did play it a couple months ago when I first built it, I took it apart because it felt so odd to play (uninteractive).

I played the eldratron deck last week after a break for about 3 weeks and i ended up going 4/0
Some very tough wins that im definitely not favoured against.
R1 i faced affinity. In my own play testing i have found this to be one of our worst matches so i was surprised to walk away with the wins.
R2 im a little foggy on but pretty sure it was deaths shadow deck and the games were super close.
R3 elves. One of these decks that goes under the radar a bit. Can be extremely fast and if you don't get a threat down early your dead. Game 1 i believe he had 6 creatures by turn 2.
R4 naya burn. Another tough match up. Game 1 he had a near perfect hand on the play and had me dead by turn 3. It ended up going down to a 3rd game with me on 1 life.
He had goblin guide and swiftspear down and i had reality smasher and tks. I drew for turn and got a land i used sea gate wreckage to draw and had a mind stone out that i sacked. The mind stone got me another reality smasher. with him on 4 life i swung for lethal.
All in all its a powerful deck and mixed with some tight play and a bit of luck i got over the line for the night.
I had a hard match against Affinity too this week, only match that didn't go 3 rounds.
I had Chalice in my opening hand and should have played it on zero but had a brain fart.
Storm is annoying G1 but it's really favorable post board as long as you have a bunch of Relics and Surgicals. If you have Warping Wail it's great, Dismember is great, and so are Ratchet Bombs as they will often try to get cute and Empty in the post-board games. Chalice on 2 is a nice play as well, but the timing of it is tricky. They do have ways of removing it that dont cost 2 like Shattering Spree and Shatterstorm, and you can't really just tap out to play it when they can just Remand it or play Gifts in response and still go off anyway.
I had a brain fart and left my Surgicals at home this past week.
Game 3 I beat him via Chalice on 2. First game he didn't get any gas plus had to mull to 4 so I just beat down.
How do you use Relic against them? I assume activate while they are trying to go off.
I like this deck because you don't need Tron to win, 3 temples and I can cast most of my treats.
The only thing I really need Tron for in my deck is Karn and I only need him in longer match ups.
I hate playing against Storm but Charlie on two shuts them down.

Opinions on the deck?

This allows your opponent to draw too.

If it's in your opening hand it's great, nets an extra mana to use and can give an edge.
Thanks.
