@ashtonkutcher what are the updates to the deck you've made so far? How has actual delver of secrets been performing in the deck? Has RR for bedlam reveller been a problem?
i'm planning on running the deck through a playtest guantlet and considering bringing it to an IQ this weekend.
I think everyone is missing the big picture here. These death'S shadow decks are incredibly busted and oppressive. I've played 5 competitive modern leagues online today and 18 out of my 25 matches were some sort of death shadow variant. They have the tools and the clock to beat every single deck in the format handily. Something has got to go. I play combo or control, they have enough hand hate and card advantage to beat me. I play aggro, they thank me for getting them to 6 life then triple push and kill me. Given that yes magic online is a terrible client and my opponents should never draw that good in paper, it is pretty obvious with recent results that the deck need a ban.
As promised, this is my list from the other weekend. Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions? I expect a lot of eldrazi, death shadow, storm, and abzan at my next event.
Thoughts on changes:
Maybe cutting the 2nd rallier for a 3rd Smiter. Rallier has been great but inconsistent.
Since I'd be cutting a rallier I could cut a fetch(catacombs) for a basic mountain or something else.
Arlin is fantastic but I might want the 4th path back.
SO I like that everyone is starting to recognize how great VoR has been in this meta. So much value.
As far as the "flex" creature spot you guys have been talking about, I do really like tireless fracker. Knowing your meta here is key. He is a game breaker in any midrange matchup or matchups where they are trying to go bigger than you but still be fair(not you tron, ****you". I.e. U/w titan rallier or esper control.
In some metas he is more suited for the sideboard. If you arn't running rhinos, I definitely recommend trying out 1 or 2 trackers.
Wait until turn 4 and play him with a fetch is your best line. He gets big quick and puts games way out of reach once you start popping clues; even if he's not around.
this is an incredibly fair metagame right now. I can tell you that junk is better than jund in a fair metagame. The counter to that is the fact that the format is so diverse, making jund a better option because it can deal with diversity better. I believe there is a right version of this deck out there, we just don't know what it is yet.
Looks like we have our answer. Abzan only made top 8 at one of the regionals. List is running flayer/hierarch. No artifacts. Also, notice he dropped fulminators in the board..what I brought your earlier..card doesn't do enough against our already horrible matchups.
It is definitely not a heavily played deck. The big winners overall were Bant eldrazi, jund, affinity, and abzan coco. A bunch of fair decks..which is great.
I think someone mentioned this before. Catacombs and goyfs are gonna be the best 2 pickups for your deck..number 3 would be Liliana of the veil which maybe reprinted in modern master 2017. So you might be able to wait on those
So I know duress is super good against tron. But I kind of like brutality in that spot. It's not as good against tron, but it's wayyyy better against like 8 other decks
To everyone on the fence about nobles, just try it. Don't knock it until you try it. I was hugely against the card until I saw that it was doing the best out of all the list. So I tried it and I quickly changed my mind about it. Card is nuts. Just give it a shot, if you don't like it don't play it. There is no right way to play junk
