Took Jund to a local PPTQ this weekend. Ended up 3-3. Here's the list and a small write-up.

    Round 1 - Grixis Shadow Lost 1-2
Game 1, I had hand disruption into Goyf into Lili, and was able to remove anything he played. It was a quick game.
Game 2, he plucked a Nihil Spellbomb out of my hand turn 1, then had every answer imaginable and got a Lili down sooner. I lost without putting up much of a fight.
Game 3, I got to land a turn 2 Spellbomb, but he killed every threat I had, I didn't draw enough removal, and he beat me down fairly easily.

    Round 2 - Affinity Won 2-0
Game 1, I keep a hand that is hell for creature decks, hoping he's on a creature deck. He's on the play, leads on Vault Skirge. I lead on Cliffs and Push, and it only got better for me from there. I got to Maelstrom Pulse 2 Signal Pests, and baited a potentially lethal Blinkmoth Nexus swing plus Overseer activation when I had removal, so I was able to swing for lethal on the crackback. All around good game.
Game 2, I have an opening hand of Cliffs, Catacombs, Push, Bolt, Kolaghan's Command, Ancient Grudge, Goyf. I kept him off mana by killing his creatures for Mox Opal's metalcraft, and even got him to sac a Nexus when he had a big creature out. He never cast a Ravager or Etched Champion the whole match, it was rough.

    Round 3 - Esper Control Lost 0-2
Games 1 and 2 were the same. I play something and it either gets countered or removed. I got to do some fun things with baiting Spell Quellers while I had removal up, chaining the spells to kill em all, but I did nothing of note either game. This match convinced me to find room for a Thrun in the sideboard.

    Round 4 - Living End Lost 0-2
Game 1, I kept a 2 land, 2 Scavenging Ooze, 2 removal spell mulligan to 6. I got to eat a few things out of his Graveyard with Scooze, but turn 3 Living End when I had no more mana up (I didn't find a third one, or even a second green source) was the game.
Game 2, he plays a Leyline of Sanctity before the game starts. It's not a card I ever considered to see because they have no white mana. My IoK/Thoughtseize/Brutality/Nihil Spellbomb in hand are immediately useless before the game even starts. So now I'm hoping his other 6 cards are garbage because I know Leylines can cause people to keep bad hands. Nope. He has the lands, cyclers, a spirit guide, and the cascade spell to go off. I can do nothing, and I never found my singleton Maelstrom Pulse for the Leyline. This match convinced me to find room for a 2nd Pulse in the 75, and I'm very strongly considering buying 4 Leyline of the Void.

    Round 5 - Jund Won 2-0
Game 1, we were both empty handed by maybe turn 5, with nothing but 5 lands and a raging ravine for either player. I got to swing with mine first, so I won. Classic Jund mirror. There was a turn where he attacked and killed a LotV instead of attacking me. I don't know if that would have been the game, because if he did that I would have just minused to kill his creature leaving up the Terminate I used on it for his Ravine instead, but he seemed upset about his decision. In the end, I don't think it changed anything.
Game 2, I got to play my sideboard cards (Finks, Lili Last Hope) and outvalued him. I had the SB Lili Last Hope on 6, he has to fetch/shock to double bolt her. I end up winning through Goyf and Ravine beats.

    Round 6 - No show
Some stupid jerkface didn't drop after round 5, so I got to sit there and watch my buddy's boring Merfolk mirror match. I'd have rather napped.

So, 3-3 overall. It didn't feel great, to be honest. I'm gonna keep jamming the deck, making changes here and there, but I'm not exactly in love with the deck's position right now.

So I'm taking Jund to a PPTQ this weekend. I'm fairly settled on the main board, only question being if I want a second Decay or Kolaghan's Command (currently have the second Decay). The sideboard is giving me issues though, I can't seem to find something I'm 100% comfortable with. Anyone up for taking a look and leaving some feedback, I'd appreciate some conversations about it!

I've been liking Flaying Tendrils over Anger of the Gods lately. Same exile clause for slightly less painful mana requirements while actually killing Etched Champion through metalcraft. I would probably max Fulminator Mage at 2 copies and move that slot to a second Maelstrom Pulse due to it being all-around good. Similarly I'd probably drop to a single Grafdigger's Cage and use that to roll w some GY hate for decks that don't care about the cage - Nihil Spellbomb being my go-to there. I am not a huge Shatterstorm fan but some people swear by it. I like 2 Ancient Grudge more.

Tendrils not hitting Amalgam is reason enough for me to not want it, I have the Anger almost exlusively for Dredge. RR never seems hard to get, but BB would certainly be easier. As for Etched Champion, I'm kinda just relying on removing everything else and hoping to pluck them out of their hand. He'll never be easy to answer though. I like swapping a Cage for a Spellbomb, 1/1 split seems decent, maybe 1/2 if I cut a Fulminator.

Ended up 5-4 at GP Vegas. Matchups were:

    R1: Eldrazi Tron 1-2 L
    R2: Titanshift 0-2 L
    R3: Grixis Shadow 2-1 W
    R4: Eldrazi Tron 2-1 W
    R5: Jund 2-0 W
    R6: Eldrazi Tron 1-2 L
    R7: Grixis Shadow 0-2 L
    R8: Merfolk 2-1 W
    R9: Opponent no showed.

My buddies day 2'd at 6-3 and 6-2-1 with Merfolk and Blood Moon Jund. I felt confident going into it, but running into three Eldrazi Tron was horrible. Chalice is so brutal. The mirror match I lost, I drew nothing while my opponent drew all the gas, so I didn't even get a chance to misplay. Dunno if anyone wants more info or not, I'd be happy to go into further detail. That said, I will probably be sleeving up my ol faithful and play Jund again now that Vegas is come and gone.

I feel like Abe Simpson in that gif. I come here looking for some good tips and decklist advice, immediately nope out after multiple pages of unconstructive bickering.

I've updated my list, taking out Fulminators and adding more Collective Brutality. I'm considering a Dispel or two, but I don't know what to take out over Ceremonious Rejection, and without Fulminators I wouldn't want to cut those due to Tron/Edlrazi.

Here's what I'm working with for now. Thoughts?

So I sleeved up this list last night, played a few games against my buddy who was on Merfolk.

First three games were the first I'd ever played with the deck, got mana screwed all 3. Then I won 4 of 5, finally getting a feel for it, only losing one game due to a top-decked lord turning his 3 dumb little fish into Islandwalking 3/x's for lethal. I'll tell you what, it felt REALLY good to play. Snapcaster has always been one of my favorite cards, so utilizing him here makes me a happy camper.

Overall I'm impressed with the deck, and will be seriously considering it in my ever-more-frantic search for my GP Vegas deck.

    Hey all!

I'm looking to convert from Jund DS, so I put together the below list based on what I've seen after some research. I love it, personally. What do you all think? How different is it to play this, for those who've played both decks? I've played plenty of Midrange decks, been on Grixis Delver, Grixis Control, Jund, Junk, etc for a while now, but I'd like to get a good idea before I get practice in because I'm still trying to figure out what deck I'm bringing to GP Vegas.

Anyway, here's the list! Thanks for taking a look!

How often do you guys see Surgical come out of opponents' sideboards? My buddy brought it in against me earlier, he's on Junk. Turn 1 IoK away a Shadow and Surgical before I can even do anything. At that point there's zero chance I win that game. I've had to surgical my own Shadows in response before, obviously only exiling the one, but that's certainly not how it's supposed to play out.

Just that small interaction made me think about sleeving up the Grixis version.

Why you have zero chance after this? If I see my opponent Surgicaling my DS he just discarded, I would thank him for 2-for-1ing himself. I've said it before, if people bring in Surgicals against you, you can only thank them. Especially Junk vs. DSJ is such an attrition based matchup, I would never side in Surgicals here if I were the Junk player. Yeah, sometimes they get to extract your DS early on, but your still have Goyfs and Street Wraiths you can cast. Don't underestimate Wraiths here. They are a respectable threat against them. And most of the time, if they board in Surgicals against you, they will topdeck it later in the game where it is incredibly bad rather than have it in the right situation. ANd if they extract a nonsense card at this point because what else to do with it, then you can thank them again for thinning out your deck.

That all makes sense now, but when half my threats are gone and the remaining half will just bump against his Goyfs or simply die to his 10+ Decay/Path/Push/Lili, it felt long over.

How set is this deck on the white splash?

I've been playing a fairly standard list, but when I was last on the deck I'd been playing with strictly Jund colors, and I didn't miss the white sideboard cards. The mana was so nice, too. I can't figure it out and stick to a plan, I'm trying to decide if I'm taking this deck to GP Vegas over Junk/Grixis/Grixis DS/traditional Jund. I've already flip-flopped so many times >_<

I'm wondering how did you manage to beat Abzan CoCo with Junk because it's really bad matchup by my experieces while I'm always happy to play against this deck when on Jund. I'm more onto Junk since Fatal Push but Abzan CoCo that seems to be coming back worries me.

Game 1 he got the infinite combo down. Games 2 and 3 I landed an early Scooze or two and was able to keep his board relatively clean with removal and Lili. No trample means I had blockers for days with spirit tokens, and Grim Flayer was absurdly good for me. Got the final damage through with a Siege Rhino ETB both games, too.

So after playing Jund the first two days of Modern side events at GP San Jose, I switched to Junk for day 3. Literally never played the deck, even in Forge. I got the Marsh Flats the day before, so I figured I'd buy the remaining Blooming Marshes I needed and see how Junk went. I started 2-0, beating Abzan CoCo and Eldrazi Tron. I lost to Elves, and drew with my round 4 opponent to go 2-1-1, much better than I did with Jund the previous two days even though I've played that deck previously. In the second event, round one went to time vs UW Thopter Gifts. I would have won, but them's the beats I guess. Won round 2 against Jeskai Nahiri, lost round 3 to Bant Eldrazi, and won round 4 against a green devotion deck.

Overall, I'm happy with both decks and I think I prefer the way Jund plays, However, Junk certainly played better in that meta. I'm curious how I would have done against the endless combo I faced the previous days while on Jund if I were on Junk instead.

Well guys, I've been playing Jund the past two days at GP San Jose and it's been killing me. I'm new-ish to the deck still, but I keep running into matchups that I just can't seem to win. Granted, I've had awful top decks all weekend, but still.

So I'm switching to Junk for (at least) the first event this morning since I picked up a playset of Marsh Flats for $80 at a vendor. Here's my list.

    http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/29-01-17-junk/

Should I have the playset of Blooming Marsh? What about Shambling Vents? Is Ghost Quarter that necessary?
