Jun 20, 2021Which styles from the new Secret Lair drops are you considering swapping in to your cube?Posted in: The Cube Forum
I like the Fiona Staples Sakura-Tribe Elder a lot. Maybe the Mark Poole balance, but I like the FTV version quite a bit too so maybe not. The Signets look incredible for cubes running those. Lots of other cube pieces in these sets, but for most of the others I like existing variants better.
May 30, 2021That time of the year again! Share your includes, tests, or cards you're just keeping an eye on from MH2. Also include you cube size/type for reference! Post now and update or post when spoiler season concludes - whatever works for you.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer
Grist, the Hunger Tide
Archon of Cruelty
Tourach, Dread Chanter
Out of Time
Svyelun of Sea and Sky
Amazing set. Every color is getting some winners here with Black being perhaps the biggest winner and Blue being the worst getting only Lose Focus and Subtlety. Blue doesn't need help anyway....It's going to be a real struggle to make cuts for some of the new inclusions. Also, this set is a bigtime wallet buster - hope the one set box I bought is good to me because these are some pricy singles.
Wish the Horizon land cycle would've been completed, but knew it wasn't going to happen with the fetchland reprints.

That's an awesome idea. One of the originators of the format was Tom Lapille, who will be at CubeCon! https://www.mtgcubecon.com/
A video history would be an awesome project.
Did you ever make a video on this topic? Maybe I just missed it?
May 27, 2021This set is a cube home run....this card would have made the cut over Falkenrath Gorger with the dash ability alone. Then they add ramp and pseudo card advantage. Disgustingly powerful.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
May 23, 2021Posted in: Custom Card CreationQuote from rowanalpha »The base cards need to be more expensive, as dropping a 3/3 double striker plus the ETB that early is too strong. You can potentially untap on Turn 4 and get the ETB and mana up to protect it. I suggest buffing the individual creatures slightly and then push them up to 1RR and 1UU. Then you're not hitting with your meld until turn 6.
You can also balance by making the doublestrike only when attacking.
Think about all that has to happen to get this on turn 4 though. You have to have Zorn and Thorn, cast both, and they have to survive to the next upkeep. I think those are pretty significant hurdles that justify getting what is roughly equivalent a 5CC creature (Meltigemini). I think if I were to nerf anything - I might make the Expressive Iteration effect only dig two cards deep and ditch the card that goes to the bottom. Might be more flavorful that way as well.

Legendary Creature - Human (U)
, Discard a card: Draw a card.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you both own and Control Thorn and a creature named Zorn, exile them, then meld them into Meltigemini.
Legendary Creature - Human (U)
: Draw a card, then discard a card.
(Melds with Thorn)
Legendary Creature - Demon (Blue/Red color identity)
When Meltigemini enters the battlefield look at the top three cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand, put one of them on the bottom of your library, and exile one of them. You may play the exiled card this turn.
Concept Notes: For those unfamiliar Zorn and Thorn are two humanoid jesters who mirror one another by speaking in antimetabole. They merge later in FFIX into a demon creature called Meltigemini. I made Thorn and Zorn red and blue to match their respective colors in FFIX. I used both the flipped P/T ratios and the looting vs. rummaging abilities to represent how they mirror one another. Individually Thorn is a pretty strong rummaging option in that he is able to rummage repeatedly and only costs 2. Zorn is a small upgrade over Merfolk Looter with an extra toughness.
I used the meld mechanic to show their fusion into Meltigemini. I combined their P/T's and they gained double strike. I chose Expressive Iteration as the ETB ability for meltigemini as a way to represent the fusion of the two and a way to bring blue into the fused card. Let me know your thoughts!

May 22, 2021I'm testing this at 450 unpowered. I think this is a very underrated card.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Being able to put this many cards in the graveyard and reanimate them and choose whether you do it once or twice and the opponent gets to do it just once and their copy resolves first negating any etb removal effects on their creatures seems well worth the cost.
May 22, 2021I just cut GFTT for Baleful Mastery. Beyond that I run Heartless Act, Dismember, Hero's Downfall, Snuff Out, and Bloodchief's Thirst.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
I would rank this one just below GFTT so it is a miss for me.
May 22, 2021Amazing option for cubes that go deep on the blink archetype, but broadly speaking I think this is on the outside looking in for my 450 unpowered list. I'll be watching this card since I think this could outperform my expectations.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
