The problem with labeling a list of cards as "sacred cows" is that it immediately slants the argument. You're not looking for feedback on whether players are having success with those cards, you're starting the discussion off by calling them bad.
You don't have a list of sacred cows in the OP, you have a list of good cube cards that happened to not work out for your playgroup for one reason or another. And that's fine. There are a lot of cube cards other groups love that I don't like for my own cube. But that doesn't make them "bad". It also doesn't make them "sacred cows" or "pet cards" either. It simply means that my environment (based on playgroup, objectives, or some other metric) wasn't ideally suited for those cards.
Popular cube cards that struggle to perform in your playgroup are simply that. I don't run any of the cards listed in this thread because they're uncuttable "sacred cows". I don't have any uncuttable cards in my cube. All those cards are included because they still contribute to game wins and assist in accomplishing my cube's goals. Just because they don't work for you doesn't mean they're bad (or "sacred cows" or any other clickbaity term you want to use to start the discussion off on the wrong foot).
I don't know, I'm just tired of the lack of constructive discourse in the community, and all labels like "sacred cow" and "pet card" do is make those issues worse. I've become bored with "these cards are bad, don't play them" kinds of takes. I'm far more interested in what unpopular cards people have successes with than popular ones they're arbitrarily trying to dethrone. Sell people on the merits of inclusion, and leave cuts to their playgroup. It took me a long time and a lot of personal growth and evolution to get to this mindset. Hell, I built a reputation on providing cutthroat analysis. But over the years, cube has changed, and I think it's been time to err on the side of positivity for a long time now. Just my $0.02 I guess.

MrConfusion posted a message on [KHM][CUBE]: Kaya the InexorablePosted in: Cube Card and Archetype DiscussionThe biggest strike against this card for me is that replacing Lurrus with this turns Orzhov into exactly what most Golgari sections look like now which is a whole guild section full of just great removal. I already have Vindicate and Anguished Unmaking, adding this as well is overkill and Lurrus even without companion is more interesting and lends to differing archetypes. For me this is #6 overall in Orzhov which puts it just narrowly outside of inclusion into my cube.
I think this is a great point. I'm currently playing Vindicate, Lingering Souls, Lord of Innistrad and Anguished Unmaking. So to me, Kaya seemed more interesting, as trading out Anguished Unmaking for Kaya would give more lines of play, not less. But definitely agree that running Vindicate, Anguished Unmaking and Kaya would be very linear. I don't play Lurrus as my playerbase are not too big on black aggro or artisocrats, but I definitely see Lurrus as a better and more interesting card in the right cube. -

Card has been very impressive so far. Against decks that would normally be able to stabilize, this can make even a single unblocked attacker finish the game, at the point of the game where normally the midrange value creatures would just take over. It has also been used to save a blocked attacker or have an unfavourable trade for your opponent losing a 4 toughness dude to a 1 power creature allowing you to close out the game.
I was able to beat through a thragtusk, knight of autumn, and nighthawk scavenger with embercleave in a game that surely I would have lost playing against so much life gain.
Wasn't sure it would transfer to cube but its been great so far. -

When ~ enters the battlefield, put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control. When ~ leaves the battlefield, that creature's controller sacrifices it.

A whole bunch of Monarch cards. I'm unsure yet if I want to introduce Monarch into the environment, and I'm not sure the density yet if I do, but I am interested in a lot of the cards, notably the 5 Courts.
I was also interested in Hullbreacher especially with Wheel of Fortune, Wheel of Misfortune, and Memory Jar in the cube, but I don't think I can fit it in at 360.
I'm sad to be cutting 2 pet cards, but happy about these additions. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

If they made a traditional magic equivalent of this card, I would likely test it, but I'm not going to try this or any other card in this vein otherwise.

I think of being an MDFC as a rating modifier if I were scoring these cards out of 10. The mythic cycle adds about 1.5 points to a cards rating by virtue of being able to just be played normally as untapped lands (albeit for 3 life). The rare and uncommon cycles each get a point for also being able to be tapped lands.
So going through the potentially cubeable MDFC's it looks kind of like this in my mind. The cutoff for viability within my cube would be roughly 7/10.
Emeria's Call - Base card 5. Final card 6.5 WATCHING
Sea Gate Restoration - Base card 4. Final card 5.5
Agadeem's Awakening - Base card 5.5. Final card 7 TESTING
Shatterskull Smashing - Base card 5.5. Final card 7 TESTING
Turntimber Symbiosis - Base card 6. Final card 7.5 TESTING
Kazandu Mammoth - Base card 6.5. Final card 7.5 TESTING
Glasspool Mimic - Base card 5. Final card 6
Hagra Mauling - Base card 4.5. Final card 5.5
Ondu Inversion- Base card 2. Final card 3.
Valakut Awakening - Base card 4. Final card 5.
Bala Ged Recovery Base card 5.5. Final card 6.5 WATCHING
Jwari Disruption Base card 4.5. Final card 5.5
Tangled Florahedron Base card 4. Final card 5

Emphatic NO. Over Reveillark perhaps. I also agree that Sun Titan is a bit of a place-holder 6 drop. It's not great, but its the best we've got right now.

I think this is the second best of the cycle behind the green MDFC and it definitely makes the cut in my 450 unpowered. Even at 1BBB it can recur a 1 drop and the fact that as X scales it isn't just the CC of the target you can grab with it that increases, but also the # of different targets of X CC or less. I also think the likelihood of casting X for high enough to get a ton of value from the spell is heightened in decks that run black as one of the primary colors.

Tempo-loss etbt typeless red mana source
Bolt to the face typeless red mana source
3RR Arc Lightning that can't hit players.
Having a land fall-back plan isn't enough when the spell itself is this bad. Of the mythic cycle so far only the green one has a spell side that is good and therefore the added fallback plan of being a land takes that card from good to great. The rest of the cycle so far begin with a bad spell and have a land fallback plan that makes the card fair at best.
