bondafong posted a message on [Set (P)review) My top 20 Hour of Devastation cards for the cube!I defiantly think Sifter Wurm should have a top 20 spot. Maybe even a top 10 spot. If I still managed a large cube I would add Sifter before your top 9+.Posted in: Articles, Podcasts, and Guides -

@Khrone: Glad you liked it, and happy you concur with the findings.
@preppypoof: I actually like Abrade more in unpowered lists than a lot of alternative artifact destruction spells, since when you don't have a premium target for it, the card doesn't go to waste. I do like the spell more than the Lightning Strike variants, if more for variety than anything else. -

The front half is fairly costed and the aftermath is just gravy. Won't make my Dimir section though, especially after the spoiling of the Scarab God, as you mentioned.
Don't forget Never // Return, that's pretty good too. -

kjsharp posted a message on [Monthly Card Contest] ***MCC*** Discussion ThreadAgain, for the love of God, stop trying to assassinate my character and the character of others in the MTG community. There are only two instances since Theros of these sorts of cards. Dark Intimations --> Nicol Bolas (which most people regarded as a design and flavor fail), and Renowned Weaponsmith--> Vial of Dragonfire. People were really let down by the latter one too. When you reference a card that hasn't yet been made/revealed, you really amp up the community's expectations of that card and the interaction of the known card with the unknown card. LSV and Marshall made jokes about it, and Saffron Olive and Richard from MTGGoldfish noted how Vial of Dragonfire really let down the MTG community's expectations. So what I said has merit, and indeed most people feel the same way as I do regarding these two pairs. So knock off the incessant impugning of my character and the character of others.Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games -

kjsharp posted a message on [Monthly Card Contest] ***MCC*** Discussion ThreadI guess Chaz and Saffron Olive and many other Magic content creators are arrogant too. They expressed the exact same opinion. In general people considered the interaction between the two cards a design and flavor failure. Please stop trying to go out of your way to insult and belittle me for no reason.Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games
I sympathize with your hesitancy about the round's challenge but we are already behind schedule and we have reason to be positive and optimistic. The challenge is a fun one, and I look forward to seeing what others create. -

Spoiler season is the time when everyone has the rosiest glasses on, which I feel is what's happening here. I'm guilty of doing the same before, one time I vigorously defended Aurelia's Fury, not my best moment... -

Metamind posted a message on [[SCD]] ReveillarkReveillark has better things to recur, so it got better with time relative to its old self, but the competition is much stronger and I think it got worse in relation to them. I agree that the saving grace is its uniqueness.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion -

quitequieter posted a message on [XLN][CUBE] Sorcerous SpyglassI think this guy is way better than pithing needle. Seeing your opponent's hand is useful in itself but synergizes really well with the needle effect. It opens it up to cards needle can't hit or turns off cards a turn earlier, like making walkers totally useless instead of allowing the initial activation.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

This actually got me thinking about how often cards that are probably top 10 guild cards don't make our ranking projects because they weren't former cube cards and don't currently make our lists that often only run 4-5 guild slots. Case in point, this card is almost certainly better than Blightning and Terminate (granted this is my opinion, but I think it would be shared by most posters) but Blightning/Terminate both used to hold a spot in our cubes for a while and this probably didn't even get tested by most with the options we have today that are broadly considered better. Wonder if there is some method to account for cards like this that fall in the gap of being outclassed by existing options but are better than former cube staples when doing our ranking projects?
Moving off that tangent. I also, haven't personally tested this one but it feels so full of potential and I love high-variance, fun options that a lot of cubers might pass on for the sake of more consistent options. Adding deal X damage to your opponent where X is this spell's converted mana cost to the first spell of each turn seems likes big game. That word each is pretty critical to the color pair too as you can get some extra value off your burn spell/removal cast on your opponent's turn as well.

Card is terrible. Don't play it. Kidding. Obvs.
