I replaced the mana symbols for a lone black and white Bant Charm as I think they overloaded the image. I see two problems with my banner, let me know what you guys think: 1. It makes little reference to Bant colors (no Hierarchs/Displacer/Drowner), and I'm still not convinced about the font I used. If you guys like it I can put some more work into it
Agreed, and I don't think Thought Scours or, god forbid, Ancestral Visions are cuts you can make. Corey Burkhart has this deck saved as "Grixis Ancestral Vision control" on MTGO for a reason. Our motto is mana efficiency; we like our 1 mana 3x1 and 1 mana 4/5s. Maybe other takes on the deck like the older iterations that played Liliana of the Veil and a more mid-rangey strategy can do without it, but not the current one.
Thanks, I'll try doing it like that It felt a bit miserable against Grixis since AV and Tasigur are really mana efficient, while Rev and WSZ require you to go all in.
I have a question about the control mirror. What is our deck (namely the lists with STW/WSZ as their lone win condition) supposed to do during the active phase? While Grixis is slamming down Tasigur and UW planeswalkers, do we just play a massive WSZ? Doesn't that leave us super vulnerable against wrath effects? Or do we dump all of our Esper Charms at them?
You definitely should! I mean, just look at DSJ's primer, we need something like that! I 100% support the idea and I'm willing to share all relevant testing as well
A short report on my part, even though it's not relevant, I 2-2'd my FNM event my first time playing this deck. I went full draw-go copying Amalek's list and changing some things due to card availability. I'm really happy with this deck and I always felt like I could have won had I played better. I beat GR Valakut, a GW Midrange deck similar to Tod Steven's brew, and lost to Eldrazi Tron and Ad Nauseam. The Ad Nauseam match I lost because I played Esper Charm wrong, as I had no previous experience in the match-up. The Eldratron games did feel a bit hopeless at times, though, as Sea Gate Wreckage and Endbringer generate card advantage that is hard for our deck to interact with.
I did play 2x Cast Out. Even though I wasn't overly impressed by the card, it's opportunity cost is so low I still think it's worth it. It did manage to steal away a Phyrexian Unlife.
Overall, I think this deck has great potential and I thank you all for the wonderful content
Noob question here: is discard magic effective in the control mirror? My intuition tells me it should be, since you're getting all the information in your opponents hand and taking one of their best counterspells/win conditions.
Two quick questions: are the MB Leylines usually worth it or would they be the first cut if you faced a different metagame? And, are you running Cast Out? So far I've been pretty impressed by the card. Thanks!
That is true, but I still think it's worth it. UW Control lists run Detention Sphere and I just think this one's better. The "exile all permanents with the same name" condition is helpful sometimes, but playing at sorcery speed is cancer in any draw-go shell. And the cycling is such a versatile mechanic as well. I'm pretty happy with it so far, amalek was spot-on.
Don't think it's what our deck wants. For one, you can't set her on X=1 on turn two unless you have T1 Hierarch. And if you do, I think you'd just rather play an Eldrazi. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like planeswalkers on Bant Eldrazi. That being said, I do like the card.
Hey guys! I'm playing a Team Unified Modern event, but a friend is running Abzan CoCo and obviously we can't both play Kitchen Finks. What is, in your opinion, the best configuration for a Kitchen-less UW Control deck?
I think there's another thread for this (the "Control in its purest form" banner in the primer kinda gives it off). They usually play it with Geist, Lingering souls and Death's Shadow.
