Oh Nice! The Survey Crashed Out before I could finish it.
So from the description it seems she might be a Token Producer, and the "Arkbow" weapon might "Kill Target Creature, and create a token of it on your side of the field"
She could also be Titania's Descendant...Raised by the Llanowar Elves. It would explain the Ranger Look of her and the possible "Nature Summoning" Magic she seems to be controlling. She also is just carrying a bow, the quiver and arrows are a part of the Green Magic around her, this could possibly show her connection to the Essence of the Forest that Titania was known for.
Honestly, I'm surprised there hasn't been some huge flame war yet in this thread over the fact that the new planeswalker is a woman of color. Never stop surprising me, MTGS!!
I honestly don't see the problem and I don't understand Why people get so upset over it. As I said in my Original Post: I'm all for New Characters for us to follow in the StoryLines. Man/Woman, Different Races, Different Species... It doesn't bother me. What does Bother me about the way PlanesWalkers are treated is when they just "Fall off the Face of the Multiverse".
I REALLY like the "Art-Implied" Idea of how this new girl may work out: Mono-Green Elf-ish Summoner/Token Producer (The Ghostly Images of the Cat and Wolf really indicate that), I just hope they don't just ditch her out like they did with Saheeli Rai, Arlinn, Ashiok, or any of the others they just "abandoned"
--Plus, I made my first "Discussion Thread" ever on here and I want to see her go far in the story. LoL I'll be biased like that.
Hoping they explore putting a Planeswalker as a rare again in a set.
Dude I couldn't agree more, but I remember when they implemented the "Mythic" Rarity. PlanesWalkers were always the most obvious choice to always make Mythic.
I'd LOVE the idea of getting a General Rare PlanesWalker, but I believe that's a bit of a "pipe dream", but I would be happy as can be to be wrong
I can get behind that design...Maybe nail some flying creatures as well as summoning token/creatures from hand or Library. Usually an elf carrying a bow has some kind of "Reach" ability. Like "Do X to target creature with flying"
So, Checking on the Day's Articles, a New Survey popped up talking about PlanesWalkers. I decided to take the Survey and WOTC seems to have Snuck in a new PlanesWalker for Dominaria
Apparently her name is "Vivien" and she looks like she's of the Llanowar Clan.
No Idea what she might do, but I'm all for New PlanesWalkers entering the StoryLine
**Edit** Cleaned up the ScreenShot I took to show off the Art more Rather than my DeskTop
Hey mate, your guess is as good as mine LoL. Those were just my guesses as to what these guys might do... I do agree with you though. Zacama might be the "Sweeper"
Tide = Bluesaur, Storm = Redsaur, Dawn = Whitesaur, and we still have no idea what colors Zacama will be.
I already love Laughing Rhamphorhyncus Zetalpa.
And the Azor thing... is just icing on the cake.
I'm of the camp that thinks Zacama will be the "Big Bad Five-Color Dinosaur God". I mentioned it on another topic, but I don't know how to link it right...so I'll just repeat what I said there.
All Five Colors make sense to me, the art may not show it off to well, but neither do the arts on both versions of Progenitus. It's just a Giant Hydra Avatar.
Zacama is probably going to follow in the same footsteps. Just a Giant Legendary Creature that has an insane ability...I mean maybe he'll play into the Tribal Aspect and boost up all other Dinosaurs with either "+X/+Y" or a Shared Ability/Abilities through out the Tribe, but I'm not sure.
As for the others, I think they will follow in the trend as the other two "Elders" we heave already, Ghalta and Tetzimoc. Both of them (to me that is) embody how a Dinosaur in their respective colors should be. Ghalta is a large, Green Tyrannosaur that you can cheat out if you're running a bunch of other big, green creatures. Tetzimoc is an evil, looking Ceratopsid that is a straight-up "killer creature" (Deathtouch and his ability to "hunt" things and kill them), one of the main ideals of a Black Creature.
*IF* I was to be so bold and take a guess as to the others: I would believe that the Plesiosaur (The Tide) will follow the "Leviathan" creature type abilities, I.E. Tap everything, Island-Walk, Shroud/Hexproof, and/or Card Advantage.
The Spinosaur (Etali) will possibly be the Direct Damager, much like Burning Sun's Avatar, but with Steroids...Toss a little "Haste" on him and have fun. LoL
The Pterosaur (Zetalpa) might be "Wrath" Creature, but he might also be the "Protector"...From the art and his name I'm getting a of the "Destroy my opponents stuff and Protect my stuff" feel about him. He's obviously going to have flying being a pterosaur and all...maybe vigilance...but if the Rex and the Ceratops we already have are to "Set the Formula", these Elders are only going to have one of their respective colors main abilities.
They could also make him be a "Transform" PlanesWalker...but again, they would have to come up with a way for him to re-gain his Spark.
That just made me tingle inside.
Well, it makes sense. The Tag-Line they gave us is "Gather Legends", and *Yes* PlanesWalkers are Legendary now, but the key art shows off Jhoira along side Karn and Teferi. Jhoira is a Legendary Creature and Karn is now a Legendary PlanesWalker. So, the final one of our Daring Trio has been both Creature: Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and a PlanesWalker: Teferi, Temporal Archmage it makes sense that he will become a Transform PlanesWalker. It highlights all aspects of these three.
Yeah. I’ve changed my mind. I am 100% on board for the GIANT Cerberus-Rex. I want this in my deck immediately. GIMME! Timmy wants to play!!
What made you change your mind for curiosity?
I'm guessing part of it is due to a cleaned up image of Cerberus-Rex.
Oh for everybody I can see all colors except U for Cerberus-Rex (judging by the colors.)
Maybe it's are first ever 4-color legendary not from a commander set. (WBRG)
That would feel so wrong to me, and I bet I'm not the only one. If we get one elder dino for each color and the sixth is... four colors? Really? Five colors is the logical choice. I am willing to accept Naya, as those are the dino colors, but other than that, anything would be just weird.
All Five Colors make sense to me as well. The art may not show it off, but neither does the art on both versions of Progenitus. It's just a Giant Hydra Avatar.
This "King Rex" is probably going to follow in the same footsteps. Just a Giant Legendary Creature that has an insane ability...I mean maybe he'll play into the Tribal Aspect and boost up all other Dinosaurs with either "+X/+Y" or a Shared Ability/Abilities through out the Tribe, but I doubt it.
The spike in "Older Players Returning" happened during the Time Spiral Trilogy. I remember hearing "We're Going HOME!!" when they announced it back then an I'm hearing the same excitement now. I really hope WOTC puts the same amount of *Love* into this Return to Dominaria as they did back then
Yes, that's exactly the resonance I'm feeling from my friends on this matter too. For me, it really helped with the massive amount of interesting reprints in the timeshifted cards (which I don't expect to happen again - the Core Set will likely be uninteresting vanilla reprints and staple cards)
But, as I said - the real trick to keeping this players is not just the amount of love put into the set - they also need to keep Standard free from gimmicks that will drive these players away again. No Mirrodin, no Eldrazi, and nothing gimmicky like Energy. If they can do that for at least a full standard cycle (1.5 years) - they may actually keep these players rather than driving them away again.
I'm strongly hoping they'll play it safe. Maybe next year we'll see 2 sets of Ravnica or Theros + a third set that's somewhat safe (Vryn comes to mind) or otherwise in keeping with AKH/XLN style design with nothing too out-of-the-box.) That would give long time players enough time to feel 'safe' returning to the game. If we get another bizarro gimick set like BFZ, KLD or anything Phyrexian then Wizards will drive those players away again for the same reason they stopped playing in the first place.
Oh I agree 100% mate. I do think they have learned their lesson though. With Amonkhet/Hour of Devastation they kinda threw the gimmick of Embalm/Eternalize, but those were just more token production. Ixalan (and hopefully Rival of Ixalan) stays pretty true to how I remember having fun playing Magic. Players can just read a card and understand how the mechanics work. We'll just have to what the Spoilers bring us...
For what has been revealed though... I have some hope. Sure they'll have their little "Set Specific" stuff, Like "Tribal Stuff gets *X*" and "If you have Treasure Token(s), you get *Y*", but that is just how sets have always been.
The only REAL concern I have is that "City's Blessing" thing...but I guess I can look at it through the lens of "PlanesWalker Emblems"
Hrm. Didn't Time Spiral happen hundreds of years ago? Shouldn't Teferi have died of old age if he's not a planeswalker? He should look at least as old as Jaya if that were the case.
**DISCLAIMER: I MAY BE WRONG**...but I believe that Teferi learned how to manipulate Time for himself. I haven't read the Time Spiral Trilogy in years, but I think it was his understanding of Time Magic that led him to understanding about the Rifts. Also, when he phased out the Isle of Shiv, he essentially "Stopped" the progression of time for himself and the other inhabitants on the Continent. He may have also become ageless when he entered the Rift to perform the Mending Ritual.
So from the description it seems she might be a Token Producer, and the "Arkbow" weapon might "Kill Target Creature, and create a token of it on your side of the field"

Ok, Thanks. I really didn't see this at all when he posted it. LoL
Not to be a Jerk...but Where/When? I honestly don't remember that.
IF that is the case, then she might just be a small "Easter Egg" for the people who take the surveys.
I like taking them b/c it gives a bit of insight into their thought processes. Plus, it said PlanesWalkers and I am all about them and their stories.
