I've been getting into Dungeons and Dragons and Magic at the same time. Now I know there is a homebrew RPG set in the Magic omniverse, but I was wondering if any of you have tried to incorporate the actual cards in with an RPG-esque game, and how that went. I'm very interested in trying to mesh the two together somehow and was looking for any directions someone who has gone down this path before could offer. Thanks!

Okay! This is making WAY more sense now! Thank you! Didn't realize the stack was an actual zone. I just assumed it was a metaphorical concept. I also didn't know what "mana abilities" were, either. Sometimes I wish starter guides were more intricate just so there aren't questions to be asked.

Thanks for the clarification about the effects and stacks (need to remember to use "trigger" now). However, I am still confused about mana and lands. If I wanted to respond on my opponent's turn with an Instant, what would be the steps I would take?

I am assuming I would declare what spell/ability I am playing, then pay the costs associated with that spell/ability(in this case I would then tap the Lands needed for the mana cost).

I guess to go with that, would me tapping lands to add mana to my mana pool be something that would pass priority to my opponent? I.E. would tapping lands for no reason start a Stack?

Hey there! So I used to play Yugioh a few years ago, but I'm looking into Magic for the first time. I have just a couple of questions on how to play this game.

First off, how do stacks resolve with additional effects activating during resolution? I can't think of a specific card (as I don't have that card knowledge), but lets say a card deals damage to a player when it destroys a creature. So the destroying a creature happens at the resolution of the effect, which triggers the dealing damage. In Yugioh, that effect would wait to trigger until the original chain (stack) resolves. Is it so in Magic, or can new effects get added onto the stack during resolution?

Secondly, how does playing Instants on your opponent's turn work? Specifically, how does tapping the land needed for the mana work? Do I tap the land within the stack? Is tapping and activating simultaneous? Can an opponent respond to me tapping before activating my Instant?
