Only complaint is that I’m not a fan of the art on this. Absolutely a great spell, though, and will be going in at 540 powered. I remember a day when I was sure Hero’s Downfall would stick around forever, but this will be the nail in it’s coffin.
Phantasmal Image has been alright, but is on the chopping block for me. I feel like the only clone I’m interested in any more is Phyrexian Metamorph for the artifact synergies. That being said, I like this card in an ETB heavy blink style deck to reset the vanishing, certainly better than Phantasmal in that role. UU is kind of a pain in the ass, though.
Plays really cutely with Nissa, Who Shakes The World because of her +1/+1 counters. If you animate this with her, and animate another land with her, you can attack with an 8/8 trample and a 6/6. Pretty neat!
That is awesome! Does anyone want to convince me that Sylvan Advocate is playable.
Its me, the guy who tried desperately to run Sylvan Advocate in my 540 powered for way longer than I should have. I even have a land module with MORE manlands, and probably run more than most cubes. It’s not playable.
Maybe if you run every manland available and have land animation as an archetype, it would work, but it’s really more of a constructed card.
I don’t have room for two of these cards, but I’m really going to miss the trample on Krasis. This being walled by a lingering souls/Bitterblossom is annoying.
Like others have said, this fits into more spots on the curve and into more decks, so I’m gonna drop the Hydriod for Mother Goose.
The only reasons not to run this in a powered cube environment would be either perceived color pie concerns or Universes Beyond/aesthetic aversion. I have neither. This is going straight in.
Can I ask your thoughts on the recent addition of green spells matter cards to your cube? Are they an addition to the Teething Wurmling style grower archetype? Is there a deck you see them shining in?
Separately, do I make it a black card or colorless? Feels like it needs to be black but this one is close (not trying to threadjack about this topic but one sentence replies on it would be welcome).
That’s a very on-topic question, and in my own opinion it wouldn’t make 360. I’m having a hard time making cuts for it at 540. As for what section to put it, my thought is that a nonblack deck wouldn’t typically draft this, so it’s going to be a black card for functionality. I look at it as a black card with the fail safe of being able to use colorless for an additional cost, like if you’re B/x and have better use for your black mana in a pinch, but have extra red or whatever. I also am a firm believer in having some amount of test/flex slots (say 10) that you can test/run cards with without cutting from a color to do so.
Kinda like a Maelstrom Vindicate. Won’t beat out Vindicate for me, and I’m not sure I want two 3cmc Orzhov removal spells, but this seems like a great card. I’ll have to think on it.
The more I think about it, this will be such a relevant card in either mode that once you and your opponent understand it once, it’s not that confusing. It’s going to either be cast for prototype, which will be verbally communicated and pointed out, or cheated with the big side verbally communicated and pointed out. If you flicker or reanimate it? That’s a big play and hard to “forget” the giant 7/5 lifelink menace. As long as your players are paying even a little bit of attention, this probably won’t be much of a memory issue, especially with dice or other indicators.
Get in, Wurm! Most everything has been said about it’s synergy abundance, and I’m always up for life gain in black. Only complaint is tracking which mode it’s on could be confusing, but that’s certainly not a dealbreaker.
I feel like they could have pushed Gix a little more, but this is still powerful. I like this in my U/B evasion/ninjas tempo builds which already splashed green for Edric and Toski. I’m not sure I’m really super thrilled with either of those, though, and this isn’t much better. I feel like This is exactly the kind of card I was looking for to glue that together, but I’m close to the point of scrapping them all, so I’m not sure where I’ll land. Probably all or none.
I didn’t notice it said „creature“ as well, and just sort of assumed it was a boros artifact card. In my cube, the ideal spot with this would be drop 2-3 creatures, but I don’t see my RW decks having much of a hand on turn four if they’re functioning properly. Don’t really have a home for this, but it’s a cool card for sure.
Court of Garenbrig
The Goose Mother
Mosswood Dreadknight
Twining Twins
and the Golgari, Simic, and Boros Manlands.
Gonna keep an eye on a few others, but those are my certain tests/includes for now.

EDIT: Misread- for some reason I thought it was a 1/1 that got +1/+1 for each. My mistake.
