May 21, 2018toctheyounger77 posted a message on Ravnica: The Broken GuildpactFair enough! I guess it just comes across that way in a summary article because there are so many guilds to track through ~1-2 pages of information. I always thought the nephilim would play more of a part, too, considering how unique they are.Posted in: Articles

Feb 27, 2018toctheyounger77 posted a message on Time Spiral and the MendingThanks so much Jay. This is the last bit of lore I've really wanted to know for a while. Teferi being one of my favourite characters and wanting to know more about the Mending and 'modern Bolas', this was a great read, and well timed coming into Dominaria.Posted in: Articles

Sep 27, 2017toctheyounger77 posted a message on Who is the Raven Man?Great article. Long but not unnecessarily. I can pretty well agree with the conclusion too. My first thought was Leshrac, but not knowing a HUGE amount of older lore (I started playing at a young age), Leshrac seems unlikely. Lim-Dul fits the bill. It would be a great twist at some point too.Posted in: Articles
What are the odds the reveal happens in the upcoming Dominaria set next year? Fingers crossed. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Granted, most of these are deck-specific; I want to be playing lots of artifacts and gaining some life. There are still good cards here for you though. Lim-Dul's Vault is excellent, so is Trading Post for versatility. Staff of Nin could still be good, and Baleful Strix is a cantripping rattlesnake.
I also think Necropotence is worth it. Super strong card even if BBB is tough to hit sometimes. Phyrexian Arena is reliable and cheap with less colour intensity.
Looking at your list, Tamiyo, the Moon Sage could be good. Frozen Aether and Kismet turn it into a nuts draw spell.
1 Green Sun's Zenith
6 Rampaging Baloths
5 Nissa, Vital Force
3 Mirage Mirror
3 Growing Rites of Itlimoc
3 Krosan Grip
7 Zendikar Resurgent
3 Architect of the Untamed
6 Greenwarden of Murasa
3 Hua Tuo, Honored Physician
4 Explosive Vegetation
1 Forest
It took a little while to decide what needed removing and what would stay for the moment. ZR was always a bit subpar: the mana is X+1, not X+X so it doesn't pair well with Itlimoc or Acolyte, the draw is not a choice, and it's expensive. Architect is expensive, and I have no way of increasing the energy I receive, so the Baloths are a strict upgrade really. Greenwarden is more or less strictly upgraded by Vital Nissa, as she can mana pump, Eternal witness and her emblem is nuts in this deck. Hua Tuo is too slow to be super advantageous, and is a little redundant with the amount of recursion to hand already available in the deck. Explosive Vege is the one thing I deliberated most about removing, but I have pseudo-ramp on my commander and a lot of other options, so it's a little superfluous.
Sadly, my LGS could not find me a copy of Baru, Fist of Krosa - but he's good enough here to justify chasing for him, so he will likely be in the list eventually.
There are still a couple of slots I'm questioning the value of but otherwise pretty happy as it stands. Things are crazily busy at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to playtest in a while but I am looking forward to it.
As an aside, I counted the number of things Mirage Mirror can replicate to good effect here - I can see at least 20 viable targets that can give me advantage in various ways. Nuts.
In:
Coalition Relic
Out:
Fact or Fiction
There are a lot of ways to abuse the relic here, so it's likely to generate obscene amounts of mana. FoF is very good, but this is a better choice.
3 Mimic Vat
3 Thada Adel, Acquisitor
3 Chasm Skulker
4 Bident of Thassa
3 Haunted Cloak
3 Whispersilk Cloak
3 Coalition Relic
4 Falkenrath Aristocrat
The relic will come in handy moreso in a different deck - without ways to abuse it, it doesn't quite pop. The aristocrat is better as a squid that explodes into other squids. The equipments were never crucial, and these two replacements may or may not fit, but they could be good so they're both worth a shot.
Patron I would think you'd want lots and lots of landfall - Retreat to Coralhelm, Roil Elemental etc.
Mystical Tutor - pretty much describes your friend.
Freed from the Real
Mind Unbound
Mind's Dilation
Brainstorm
Possibility Storm
Eye of the Storm
Omniscience
Narset Transcendent
The best commanders flavour wise I can think of are Zedruu the Greathearted and Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest. Maybe some of the Kamigawa moonfolk could be flavourful too? Hisoka, Minamo Sensei or Uyo, Silent Prophet could be feasible. Right now my vote goes to Zedruu or Shu Yun though.
Meren will always struggle against Sigarda - I've run her and Savra, Queen of the Golgari before. They both have a tough time of it. But either of your other decks should be fine so long as you have answers to his threats.
Sweepers will hit Sigarda - Anything that doesn't target specific creatures still gets her. Black Sun's Zenith, all the usual suspects, they'll all do her in. You could also go for things like Humility or Overwhelming Splendor if in W. Cyclonic Rift, Dissipation Field, Nevinyrral's Disk...
The other thing you could do to help is to level the playing field by making her evasion redundant. Magus of the Moat or if you got coin, Moat. Gravity Well, Bower Passage, Tornado Elemental, Wonder, Levitation. You could even do for both of her keywords with Archetype of Imagination and Archetype of Endurance, both of which are chump change cards.
She's rough to play against 1v1 from memory, but definitely not unbeatable. You just need to pack the right answers.
Thanks a lot! I've had a lot of help making this deck strong, and it's really come into its own as a force. Essentially, I don't own a copy of Song of the Dryads. The closest I've got at hand is Lignify - which in all fairness isn't the worst choice in the world, but it isn't perfect. I didn't quite see it as strong enough to add at present.
Yeah it's a possibility. I do run Crop Rotation which is cheaper, land enters untapped and also plays into the land reanimation thing. Redundancy is nice I guess, but CMC has made me hold back the purse strings to date. It probably could replace exploding veges though. The ability to find Nykthos at the drop of a hat can't be oversold.
Yeah the energy theme isn't quite as strong as landfall could be - there's more support for it at present. Rampaging Baloths could be great. It could replace either Aetherwind Basker or Architect of the Untamed. Probably the latter. The only synergy you're missing with Basker is Pathbreaker Ibex; declare attack with all creatures, abilities trigger for Ibex and Basker - stack Ibex first, choosing Basker, in response tap all energy out to pump Basker to obscene levels, win. Bonus overkill points if you have Triumph of the Hordes in hand. The only thing I don't like about Basker is it doesn't have a Wild Pair target.
That's really the issue now. More or less everything here is earning its place well. The only creatures I can think of I'd cut or haven't had a chance to try out are Invasive Species and Emrakul, the Promised End. IS is good for ETB shenanigans, but it's no Temur Sabertooth. Emrakul I just haven't pulled yet to play. I get the feeling it'll be a game ender though.
