Had my most awesome mardu-win ever this evening. I played against some kind of BW superfriends (discard, removal, souls, lillis, gideons)
Survived on 2 life for 7+ turns... then:
Opponent plays wrath of god and has 2 shambling vents on board with enough mana to activate both next turn...
I draw a land. Flashback Looting into reveler into reveler (which draws me a land, k-command and souls), thus getting two blockers for his manlands...
Opponent plays lingering souls with flashback and kills (field of ruin) my only white mana source...
I topdeck manamorphose to cast souls with flashback having 3 mana left open...
In his drawstep, I play k-command (discard and ping one of his souls tokens)... luckily i catch his brutality with the discard which would have killed me otherwise...
After this, the game goes on for some rounds but in the end I managed to win. Never felt so happy and awkward at the same time to win such a match
If decks are going to run more basics does that give mardu more of a reason to run molten rain in the board to complement blood moon? Go for the basics and play blood moon?
I think I might try it out with replacing the Blood Moon entirely with Molten Rains. Blood Moon is becoming less of a "gotchya" card in my local meta due to speed and higher basic land counts.
I never ever had a single game where molten rain was a good sideboard card. Against tron its relatively slow and only hits one land, which they can replace immediately. Against colonades its also very harmless... Alpine moon does the same job but better imho...
How viable is such an approach? Any Ideas to add? Which wincondition would fit in here (if it's a non-creature wincon, I can blank all of my opponents removal which is also a plus I guess).
Obviously good matchups:
- Combo
- Landbased decks (Tron, Valakut)
- Decks with few winconditions (e.g. UW control, Deaths Shadow)
- Creature based Decks (depending on how much (mass-)removal I feature in the mainboard)
- GY based Decks
Weaknesses:
- Very fast decks (e.g. Affinity)
- Decks that don't care about land-hate and have a consistent gameplan (e.g. Burn)
- Aether-Vial decks?
- Fringe Decks that don't give a ***** on what my deck does (e.g. Lantern, Enchantment Prison Decks)
I really love the deck idea but i am also concerned that it is not really competitive... Gimme your feedback!
(Bant and UW) Spirits seems both very bad match-ups for us. I even loose games with perfect hands... I only won the games where i could discard the enemies geist of sain traft and/or where my opponent mulligans to 6 or even 5... they just play more creatures than we can handle and even anger does not much against selfless spirit or pumped 4/4 spirits. Additionally our pyromancer army cant block the fliers. The best matches for me also were the "company" matches where my opponent played t1 noble hirach and had a company in hand that i could discard and maybe was stuck one some aether vials. When they have a powerfull start with 1-drop, lord, lord, image we cant do ***** :/
So my advices:
- Don't keep slow hands
- We have to hope that they don't have a perfect start anyway
- An Anger of the gods in the right moment can save some game
- (Almost) Always discard Geist of St
- Always prepare for combat shenanigans (aether vial, rattlechains)

I also like spellbomb a lot. But I also love rakdos charm and want to try some of those. Spellbomb, surgical and charm is is too much so i might cut a spellbomb but not because its a bad card!
Was on GP Prague this weekend. Went 4:4. Many matchups feeld 50:50 and thats a problem I see with the deck atm. You can win almost everything but also loose to many decks.
I won against 8Rack (easy), some necrotic ooze combo (easy), UW control, (don't remember the 4th win).
I lost to UWR control (very very very close), UW control (he grinded me out with elspeth cmc6), affinity (yeah, even this happens but it was again very unlucky) and BW elrazi (feels very bad with mainboard relics)...

If i would be asked to rework the deck I would add more burn, and not more creature threats. Like adding Lighning Helix and maybe some searing blaze etc... I don't like the idea with ds, but that's a personal opinion
