By the way, this is arguably more powerful than Fact or Fiction. Fact or Fiction was a ludicrously difficult card to play against. This is definitely going to be a skill-testing card, count on it.
I respectfully disagree.
Fact or Fiction lets YOU separate the five cards into two piles.
This one does NOT.
Huge difference. IMO, Fact or Fiction > Steam Augury
I feel that this should have been printed at Uncommon. But I guess the splash of Rbumped it up to Rare. Good or bad, I'm probably getting a playset of these.
*Apologies if somebody already pointed their differences.
2U with Scry 1 every turn, 1U: Make target creature unblockable, and a 5/5 indestructible body to boot. The latter is pretty easy to achieve in a deck like Merfolk, where you're typically vialing in (i.e. using Æther Vial) things like...
I feel for ya man. The deck is super fun to play but it does cost a hella lot to build. I got my pieces over time through trades and good ebay deals, but I still shelled out more than I would have liked. You can take steps to lower the cost. Forgoing a full 8 fetches for your manabase, or skipping out on cliques or cryptics can help. But the core of 4 Geist and 4 Snapcaster is pretty much required.
My friend advised me to grab the Snapcasters and Geists first. AFTER rotation. So I can buy them at lower prices. The other cards, can be acquired slowly, over time.
But with that in mind, I'm worried what THEROS will bring to Modern when it comes out.
*My work brings around USD 250.00 a month. So yeah. I'm dirt poor B(
The moment you said Dark Ascension and Innistrad were bad, you lost all credibility. That was one of the best draft formats in a long time, and the power level was huge. This was the set that contained Liliana of the Veil, Snapcaster Mage, Geist, Delver, all cards that are legacy/modern staples. Even Garruk Relentless sees play in legacy now. DA gave us Huntmaster of the fells, Lingering Souls, Gravecrawler, all modern or legacy cards as well.
Completely agree with this. Power levels over 9000. All of those cards will challenge the test of (MtG's) time.
But IMO, Avacyn Restored did not live up to INN and DKA. The power levels of a block usually spike at the first and third set, having the weak/mediocre in the second/middle. Just my opinion, AVR was a good follow up to the block gameplay and theme. But if we're speaking of "power levels" across entire formats, AVR had little to show/give. INN and DKA is where it's at.
Speaking of which, the one exception that I can think of is Worldwake. Every ounce of power went into Jace, the Mind Sculptor and left none for the other cards. People buying boxes just for ONE card. And not for the game/other cards/etc. If I approach it at some angles, it's really depressing to see/think about
Going back to AVR, the only card I could think of that's really good is Restoration Angel. I'm not sure if she's gonna be a "staple" (or if she already is), but she is one of the best angels released in a while.
I asked Chris Rahn about them a few weeks ago at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live 2. He was commissioned to do them specifically to match them stylistically with the Scars block swords. The swords are iconic, and there are collectors who like "sets" to have the same visual aesthetic. Thus, rather than giving the the original swords utterly different new art, the most logical approach was to create a matched set.
As an aside, the original oils of both of Rahn's MM swords are up for grabs on ebay right now; last I looked each was up to $1500...evidently there are a few folks out there who like the new art.
Last month, I started my hunt for the Scars of Mirrodin Block Mythic Sword Trio. I've successfully acquired all three, which now leaves the (elusive) Modern Masters Mythic Sword Duo.
I'm only a casual gamer. I do not own anything of note or prominence. Or anything for that matter. But every time I open my measly binder, and see the 3 swords. I light up. I feel like a little kid in a toy store for the first time. I feel a sense of wonder, delight, and inspiration.
It may not be today, tomorrow, or the immediate future. But someday. I'll complete Chris Rahn's Mythic Sword Cycle B)
After being, somewhat, disappointed by Modern Masters, my close friend gave me his 2 copies of Bonesplitter. On the same day, I acquired a copy of Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, Higure, the Still Wind, and Belbe's Portal for $1.00 each. He also keeps coaxing me to play Modern. Promising to help me by buying some cards/staples or borrowing from his extensive library.
Excluding Niv and the Portal, Higure got me to think about constructing "Modern Ninjas". My friend rebutted going for mono-Blue, instead going dual-colors.
I value Mark Zug's art on the original 'Sword of Fire and Ice' and 'Sword of Light and Shadow'.
But I really do hope that Chris Rahn is given the opportunity to close out his 'art cycle' of the Mythic Swords from the Scars of Mirrodin Block. His art was, and still is, BAWS D:

My thoughts exactly.
But. Only time will tell. I guess....

Fiendslayer Paladin's pre-orders are going $5.00 and above. I'm assuming that's just because of the art alone lulz
Too much lulz
Kinda, disappointed by that Blue Enchantment.... -_-
When I saw the haunted equipment, I immediately thought of Scooby-Doo and Shaggy -_-

Red gives ninjas tools to slip through (Lightning Bolt, Electrolyze, etc.)
Black gives disruption to falter the enemy (Inquisition of Kozilek, Appetite for Brains, etc.)
I haven't started creating anything yet. But, can anyone in this thread shed some light on how to, take the first steps, so to speak?
Damn. I'm gonna bleed my wallet dry for both SoFaI and SoLaS.
Time to go hunting for the other mythic swords so I can bleed it early
My thoughts exactly. OCD FTW! lol
