Apr 26, 2009Tarmogoyf posted a message on Reborn Pre-Re.Yeah, I played jund and went 4-0 at my pre-release. My deck has stuff like putrid leech(the 2 mana 2/2 that you pay life to make a 4/4) and the hackblades. The aggro possibilities of alara reborn are sick.Posted in: someguy25 Blog

Oct 6, 2008I'm going to try to be polite and explain some of the things that you may have misunderstood.Posted in: Thoughts on Religion.
1 & 2) I do have problems with both religion and ignorance even though I mainly address religion in this comment. I do also believe there is a direct correlation between ignorance and faith, which is part of religion. Faith demands that you believe something unquestionably which requires you to be ignorant to some extent depending on your religion and how true you actually are to it. Which leads me to my next point..
3) I don't have a strong belief in my rightness. As an Athiest I do not believe in any god but as a rational human being I don't believe anyone can be anyone can actually declare there is or isn't a good. All in all, I'm a rational Athiest or what I like to call an Agnostic.
This isn't to say I think it is wrong to have faith in something. I just believe it is wrong to impose your own beliefs onto ANYONE because no one actually knows. That is what faith is about: Believing.
4) I'm quite confused as to why you think I'm lumping all theists into the same group. What I basically said was that many people who are religious tend to adapt their religion to science and other things. In fact, almost all Christians have adopted science yet still have faith. There is no such thing as partial faith. As soon as someone tries to change the minutest detail about their religion their faith doesn't actually exist anymore. This person may still believe there is a god and may also at the same time believe in science, but if he or she were to call them self a member of said religion that person would be lying. This person has now adopted a personal belief system, which is the opposite of a religion. I don't think this is wrong either. I just think it is wrong to have a personal belief system and to try to pass it off as some preexisting religion.
5) Actually I was kind of making fun of you with this one. This had nothing to do with her IQ jumping or even her faith actually.
In retrospect I don't think my problem is actually with religion itself but with organized religion and people who are hypocrites about their religion; especially those who try to preach it as well. -
Oct 6, 2008Thanks for making a blog about me, but you're still wrong.Posted in: Thoughts on Religion.
1) MY problem is with religion AND ignorance.
2) Ignorance is inherent if one is going to have faith in their religion.
3) "The problem too comes with atheist and people that 'believe only in science." Very few athiests follow such a strong belief and are actually agnostics. And yes, you can be both.
4) "One of the key problems is this idea that that 'religion' and 'science' are opposites or something." Well... they kind of are opposites. Science is malleable while true religion is not. I think the problem here is that you believe deism counts as a religion, whereas it is exactly the opposite. You need to understand that truly following a religion does require faith and that many people are hypocrites about their religion. This is something I personally cannot stand because how can you say you are only going to believe certain things written in a book that cannot be supported by logic or evidence and still expect that particular religion to hold its own end of the bargain. As much as I hate ignorant, self-righteous homophobes I have to admit I respect the Westboro Baptist Church a hell of a lot more then I'd ever respect anyone who tries to be a hypocrite about their own religion.
5) "The problem with ignorant people is that they are ignorant" You don't happen to be related to Sarah Palin do you?
P.S. I was wondering if you were open to helping me write this fiction I've been working on lately. You seem like the right guy for the job. You don't happen to be one of the authors of the Bible, now do you? -

BTW, I was wondering if you were interested in working on a futuristic(non Star Wars or any preexisting theme) set with me? I've got some really cool ideas but I don't have the time to do it alone. -

Sep 18, 2008Tarmogoyf posted a message on Shards of Alara - Underpowered?I really hope so because most of these rares are poop. I really feel like WoTC is pushing commons/uncommons in this set. The avg value of a pack is going to be worth that of a planar chaos pack, which means it's going to be hard to find people willing to spend their money drafting this crappy set. The worst part is that it looks like white weenie is going to be dominating the block scene yet again..Posted in: TarmoBlog

Sep 17, 2008Tarmogoyf posted a message on Shards of Alara - Underpowered?Well, then this better be a pretty fun draft format... Otherwise, I don't see WoTC making a whole lot off this set. The rares are incredibly mediocre and really make me regret purchasing the set..Posted in: TarmoBlog

Niusha's ultimate could potentially be a -4 but either way it seems fine. I don't think it's overpowered by any means.
Liliana's ultimate feels awkward and out of place. I would rather see her -x be her 'ultimate' and give her some sort of 0 ability or -1/2 ability.
Chandra is fine. Could be quite good in a RDW deck, especially to serve as a sort of one sided sulfuric vortex, and has some utility in dealing with creature matchups(particularly things like lingering souls).
All in all these planeswalkers feel pretty good to me. Like I said, the biggest problem I have is with Liliana's ultimate.
Side note: One thing I noticed in your text spoiler is that on the card Eye of Iamur it says "Shuffle Eye of Kayisha and your graveyard into your library." I'm pretty sure this is a typo. Seems like you probably had a name change at some point and forgot to update the self reference in the text. Just letting you know cause I know how easy it is to slip up and have these kinds of mistakes floating around.
Amazing.
hahaha that's clever nice job
Yeah. Obviously just because he's not good right now means he'll never be anything special and that's that. It's not like we haven't seen this pattern before with other graveyard cards...
Maybe the average Magic player is just not smart enough to build a deck around this guy? Maybe the cards aren't there yet? Either way, nobody said you're supposed to just throw this guy into the mediocre decks that already exist. We have a fresh new meta and nobody wants to explore. If you ask me, a 5/6 flyer for 3 that recurs is worth exploring. Especially when we have a new more balanced jace that actually works better with this guy than JTMS would, and we have a neo ancestral recall that just cycles in the early game and snapcaster mages to make this whole engine come together, including a late game ancestral recall for one extra mana. I expect to see at least some midrangey Ruinator builds popping up in states top 8's this weekend. I know there's nothing to establish the deck so far, but if you ask me, the deck pretty much builds itself. Sooner or later it's going to fall into someone's hands and they're going to remind everybody why blue shouldn't have the most powerful 2 and 3 drops in a format.
This is absolutely sick. Absolutely sick.
What do I have to do for one of these?! Incredible.
It's 2011 and I'm worth more dollars than ever. Suck it.
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Viridian Emissary
2 Glissa, the Traitor
3 Solemn Simulacrum
3 Thrun, the Last Troll
3 Bloodgift Demon
1 Wurmcoil Engine
Spells
4 Rolling Temblor
3 Dismember
1 Chandra, the Firebrand
4 Curse of Death's Hold
2 Garruk, Primal Hunter
1 Karn Liberated
3 Genesis Wave
22 Mana Lands(still working on this)
2 Kessig Wolf Run
3 Ancient Grudge
4 Autumn's Veil
4 Surgical Extraction
1 Wurmcoil Engine
3 Skinrender
Just a few things I want to address before a million people mention them:
1) I don't think Primeval Titan is all that good or necessary for the deck seeing as by the time I can cast him I don't really need more lands, and Genesis Wave gets me more lands along with beefy creatures, curses and planeswalkers.
2) I think Rolling Temblor will be good in this format, as well as Curse of Death's Hold, and especially when combined. Is four of each a bit much? Possibly, but it's a very creature heavy meta(even the control decks) and Curse seems like it wrecks a lot more than just aggro when it resolves.
3) Genesis Wave might be over the top and/or unnecessary, but I'm willing to give it a try. I think it's perfect for a deck like this. Besides, I'm not sure how anything beats it once it resolves, and I am tempted to try boarding in Autumn's Veil against Snapcaster Mage decks to force it through.
Thoughts?
1) Neo Solar Flare
2) R/G Aggro/RDW
3) Some weird blue aggro or midrange deck that abuses the insane blue creatures just printed.
