Perodequeso posted a message on How Do You Feel About Amonkhet?I feel like it's a flavor flop. There are so many csrds that don't fit the Egyptian flavor pallet. Minotaurs, angels, masticores, none of these belong. Too many of the chaff cards could have had more resonance.Posted in: Magic General
Where's the cool mummy or lich? Pharaoh?
The trials all seem weak as well. The Gods are meh.
With Theros block there might have been mechanical issues, but the block screamed Greek myth and was rich with flavor. But this set seems mostly generic with some Egyptish art platered on the cards, and much of that is weak.
I feel that ultimately WOTC had such a great opportunity to create an amazing set and they missed it both in flavor and mechanic.
I'm not one to usually complain about sets I'm unimpressed with, I just normally keep quiet and wait for them to print a set I'll enjoy. This time however, I had my hopes set a little higher and felt that they didn't deliver. -

Spike Rogue posted a message on New to cubes need helpIf you're planning to make a draft simulation for any set or block, it's pretty common to just include a ratio of 3 or 4 of each common, 2 of each uncommon, and 1 of each rare/mythic that you plan to include, leaving out the cards that are stone unplayable/unexciting. You can seed each booster pack with the appropriate number of each card type (11 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare) before each draft if you don't mind the work, otherwise just shuffle 'em up and draft.Posted in: The Cube Forum
If you're really feeling that Egyptian flavor, you could always try making a sarcophagus-styled case to hold your Amonkhet cube, kinda like the guys who built these custom made Innistrad cube cases. -

DSF posted a message on New to cubes need helpPosted in: The Cube ForumQuote from BolasMindslave99 »So if i want to make a cube based off of the Amonkhet Block: Amonkhet and Hour of devestation how would i go about doing that?
Do you mean featuring/supporting cards from the block, or using exclusively cards from Amonkhet block? -

No, a 360 cube will work fine for fewer than 8 players too. -

6jerfz posted a message on STARTING A CUBEI'll start off by saying "it's Magic, dummy!" You're going to have fun no matter what! It's totally up to you and your playgroup what you decide to make. I will say that the standard concept of a cube is great for Johnnies and Spikes. Timmies are generally left out in the cold. If you and your group align more towards the Timmy end of the scale, then maybe you should consider playing some sort of wonky crap-rare cube. If you just want to kick back, have a few laughs, and have some goofy fun, make a conspiracy/un-set cube. Honestly, cube design is meant to give you and your group (as a whole--always remember that you build the cube your group wants to play with) the power to create the best cube suited to your play styles.Posted in: The Cube Forum
I will say that I have never played a cube I didn't like as long as it was built well. As long as things are balanced and you keep unfun cards out (I'm looking at you Glimpse the Unthinkable), you'll enjoy cubing. -

Spike Rogue posted a message on STARTING A CUBEPosted in: The Cube ForumI was looking into creating a cube for my playgroup. I am entirely new to the concept, is there anything you guys would suggest?
Welcome to the forum! A great place to start is this thread with a resource list and tips for first-time cube builders.
What is the typical amount of cards in a cube and what are must have cards for a cube?
The most common sizes are probably 360, 450, or 540 which are exactly big enough to host a draft for 8, 10, or 12 players. However, there's no reason you can't build a much larger, or smaller cube if that's what fits your playgroups needs. There are cubes of over 1000 cards, and mini-cubes for 2-4 people that have 90-180 cards. As with many things in cube, it's up to you.
If you have any more questions, fire away. -

6jerfz posted a message on STARTING A CUBEFirst look at your budget and decide if you want pauper, peasant, unpowered, or powered.Posted in: The Cube Forum
Then decide if you want a theme or just a regular cube.
Regular cube sizes are 360, 540, and 720, which accommodate 8, 12, and 16 player drafts, respectively. Of course you can build outside these bounds to suit your needs.
Once youve answered the above questions, you can either build entirely from scratch (not really recommended...would be a lot of work) or look on sites such as mrgsalvation or, better yet, www.cubetutor.com at similar cubes and build off those.
Welcome to the world of cubing...the best decision you've ever made regarding magic.

FTW1987 posted a message on Casual Cats, suggestions welcomed!Where's Wild Nacatl, the primo choice of Cat for RGW?Posted in: Casual & Multiplayer Formats
Ajani's Pridemate combos very well with Ajani's Mantra and Sun Droplet any other incidental lifegain. Even other cats like Kemba's Skyguard or Healer of the Pride.
Chartooth Cougar is good manafixing for a budget casual 3-color deck (it can even find Cinder Glade).
Oreskos Explorer is also good ramp for multiplayer (it can even find Canopy Vista).
Enlightened Ascetic and Qasali Pridemage and Leonin Relic-Warder are good utility, helping answer problematic artifacts and enchantments.
Marisi's Twinclaws is a powerful attacker combined with any other pump effects, including other cats like Nylea's Emissary.
Qasali Ambusher is a surprise blocker that can eat small flyers.
Finally, if you want any fatties at all, Sabertooth Nishoba and Phantom Nishoba are amazing lategame plays (both were errataed to be of creature type Cat, since the pictures display them as felines). -

FTW1987 posted a message on CASUAL RAT DECK NEED ADVICEPosted in: Casual & Multiplayer FormatsQuote from BolasMindslave99 »lol thanks but its singleton
You can run any number of Relentless Rats, even in Singleton. Read the second sentence on the card. It overrules any other deck construction rules in a format. My commander deck has over 40 of them...
EDIT: If you want to keep with the spirit of Singleton though and not be "cheap" like that, consider Pack Rat. That card is just busted. Crypt Rats is also very strong, much better version of Infected Vermin. And Chittering Rats, one of the MVP's from Pauper. Evasive rats like Razortooth Rats would help enable Ninjitsu on your other guys.
Pestilence seems very flavorful. And it's also just a great way to control the board. Contagion too.
For playability beyond just the flavor, you probably want some recursion. Phyrexian Reclamation, Death Denied, Urborg Uprising, Nim Deathmantle, or something like that. Card draw is also good: Sign in Blood, Read the Bones, and/or Phyrexian Arena? Unfortunately I can't think of rat-appropriate ones. But you want your deck to be able to play smoothly too, not just have cool rat pictures, right?
Maybe you could play the Graf Rats+Midnight Scavengers duo? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
