Hey I got into Magic back in the days of Dark, stopped around Apocalypse, got some cards here and there, but havent started tournament playing until now. Anyway some old magic players and I were playing and had some questions if anyone knows the answers.
1. Ok my opponent plays stupor, the random discarded card is Call to the Netherworld. My opponents argument is that since he is forcing me to discard, rather then an effect I am playing, I can't use its madness effect. Secondly does the card go to the graveyard if I use its madness effect, or is it removed from the game?
2. If I have Kaervek the Merciless in play, my opponent is down to 5 life and had a Paradise Plume (chosen color black), he plays Essence Drain. So does his life total go to 0 and lose the game, or does this play resolve with him having 4 life (3 from the drain and 1 from the plume)?
3. I have a Grinning Ignus in play and two other creatures. I attack, my opponent declares that he lets the two other creatures through, and blocks my Ignus, can I then tap for one red mana and return Grinning Ignus to my hand, before damage is resolved?
Second part of the same question, if an opponent plays a card that would kill a creature, before it takes effect can you in response use mana trigged abilities like Ignus's or the Sacrafice effects of saprolings to get the benefit?
We would appreciate if anyone can help us since we are unfamiliar with the new environent and rulings. Thanks.
