  • posted a message on where to go for rumors after this site closes
    Hello to you all,

I do not log in often, but visit MTGS every day; whether it is for information, ruling decisions, rumors - or back in the day the debate forum. I figure, as I have spent much of the last few years lurking in the rumor mill more than most other places on MTGS, this was as good a place as any for this post.
I decided to log in once again to say my thanks to the many people that made MTGS what it has been. I will miss this site specifically, however I do look forward to whatever comes next.

Out of the ashes, the community will be reborn.

    Thanks again,

    Bryspoon.

I opened six packs (two drafts),

Got no hyper expensive stuff, but almost made it all back in $$ uncommon's in multiples.

The real deal was trading for a foil mana crypt by the end of the weekend. Happy about that.

Now Legacy players need those duals, Commander players don't, but they are nice to own and I guess, show off?

I play old school 'EDH', none of this commander business. 20 life, 100 card singleton.
I love 5 colour good stuff game warping decks, which self harm all the time, making old duels a requirement. No showing off, just good cards for the right deck? Rolleyes

    Anyway.
I have owned play sets of all the old duels back in the day, sold them, and around tempest I completed another batch, then sold em.
As always, there is a break in the game in between these acquisitions and sales. The difference now is staggering, been back in the game about three years and have only obtained 4 of the ten, one copy each. It really surprised me that the prices of these cards had inflated in the hundreds of percent range. I also noticed that many cards seen as 'jank' back in the day have now sky-rocketed in value because of commander....

Formalising formats has the same effect as not re-printing cards.

My take on this is that while there is some artificial inflation due to speculation, the primary cause is demand. Demand means more players must be playing, which is a good thing at the end of the day.

As for EMA, I really want a Mana Crypt as I have never held one, let alone owned one! My old English Karakas still laughs at the reprint and all the Italian ones around Laughing

I am not looking forward to forking out so much to draft this set, but am looking forward to drafting itself! Boxes to expensive for me as well. I am green with envy to those that will sit down and open a box or two of EMA sipping there whisky.

    Rant over.

    Thanks again Ottomund,

Always spend too much time on your generators... Rolleyes

One request - can we please have a '3 packs' option to mimic what we would open for a draft?

    Cheers,

    - B

What I do is open my pack, pick, open another, pick the second best card, open one more and pick the third. Then repeat for the next two rounds.
It's not worth going any further but it gives you a bit of an idea where the power/value on your draft would be.

TBH I am currently just cracking one at a time, as you say. The draft itself will be different to normal drafting, with people just picking money when it rears its head. Makes archetype drafting more random.

Mild interest to indifference here, they needed to shake things up for a while anyway.

Less work for me, I am a L1, who can, has and will no longer judge competitive REL (well, one more I am already on the team for next month).
Which reminds me - when does this come into effect? I cannot be bothered reading the article again.

    'Fake' part aside,

Good work on whoever come up with this list - balanced, and what the set is kinda likely to look like IMO.

Even a few draft strategies, and some fringe ones too.

    Cewl.

Man,people on here are easily disappointed.
Glorious Anthem was a super strong card, this one's much stronger, but with a restriction that rules out certain decks but not others.
In other words, this card is really really good!

Yeah I agree with you here, if your playing tokens - your not using this card, if your playing white weeny non-tokens this is better than other anthem affects at its cost.

Many people on here that just say, "EDH only", or, "Not playable in constructed", should be hit up for spam. There is so much of it, it IS spam. Makes some threads unreadable.

You guys haven't been on MTGS long have you? Being absurdly doom and gloom and negative about EVERY SINGLE CARD PREVIEWED if pretty much what this site does. That's how its been since at least original Zendikar. The only time the site isn't negative on how terrible the card is is to complain about (in no particular order)

    1) NWO
    2) Too rare
    3) Not rare enough
    4) Calling it a cash grab
    5) Not right for their standard deck
    6) Not right for their modern deck
    7) Not right for their legacy deck
    8) Not right for their overly tuned Commander deck

Welcome to preview season, check your expectations at the door.

OT: Good anthem effect, especially with the vigilance. Wouldn't shock me as a 2-of in certain Wx lists.

I've been a member since 2007, but I get what you mean!

Better list than I presented too.

Does anyone else find zero mana instant speed activated abilities tacky? It reminds me of old magic cards where they didn't really know how design cards. When was the last time we had an ability like this?

Blinking Spirit was printed in 8th Edition I think. Damn thing is almost impossible to kill - bar split second cards like sudden death/ shock.

The land: Cool idea, blew all the predictions on ability out of the water. Good in limited formats, likely standard, who knows about the rest until people start brewing.

Nissa's Oath (intentional switch) - This is amazeballz. Plays well in most formats. Chase rare of the set, I want at least two... (I do not even play constructed!)

Excellent card for U/x decks in limited.

Looks like limited is going to be some fun, I stopped playing BFZ draft about 5 weeks ago as it was repetitive and uninteresting.

There was always MTG lottery RE expeditions, but Oath looks like it could shake things up - and that's with bugger all spoiled so far!

    The comparsion would be fabricate.

I believe this is a new thing for white's colour pie.. I am okay with that up until now they could tutor only equipment.

It's not going to be a 4 of in standard, it just doesn't do anything but as a one or two of it will be quite powerful in basically being all the walkers in your deck.

    Obligitory good in commander.

White tutors for artefacts and enchantments too, just not to recently.

In agreement about it being popular in commander, highlander and casual. Also as people are discussing, maybe potential in constructed as well.

Going to be a popular rare.

    Great! Thumbs Up

Overall, I have said my piece. Feel free to support WotC however you want. But maybe WotC could have done better?
    Signing off!

And your piece was well thought of and delivered!

    However, just to clarify:

I do support WoTC overall - we would not our cardboard crack otherwise, the DCI would not have been formed, and I would not be able to teach people from all ages and walks of life how to play MTG every Friday night.

But I do not 'support' WoTC RE what has just happened, as I feel there is more we do not know.
It is never as simple as choose a side, and I am well practised in remaining impartial. You are right in regards to the company doing better.
They released the information, and it should have been done in a way to ensure that these very discussions are more focused on the cause, and not the effect.

Again to reiterate - and I think this is very important, we can discuss fairness, ban-hammers etcetera, but I think this topic lacks something more important,

    Solutions!
Suggestions for the players affected, for the remaining judges in the area severely affected.

I as well am signing off, happy holidays/ Merry Xmas to you all!

    - B

I have the impression you did not read this thread and its related links, otherwise you do require a lot of information.

I am neither a lawyer nor copyright consultant. Correct me if I am wrong. There is no IP laws involved with WotC's cards as NDC is mentioned thus becoming contractual laws.

    "Moral responsibility"?
As I mentioned Judges = Human, I dont expect every judge to act as a saint and dont burden them with moral responsibility outside of REL.
Correct me if I am wrong. Judges do not sign a contractual code of conduct with WotC.

Now, bring it back to the judges.
"03:19 - There is a person inside Wizards who was the primary leak. He released the cards to a judge with whom he is a close friend."

If only these 2 people were penalized, I will not disagree with WotC as these 2 people certainly know the leaks are true.
    But 5 L3, 8 L2 and 1 L1 Judges? This is not 'heavy-handed'. Its 'over-extension'.

Being a judge is just an extension of your normal DCI membership, any player can sign into the judge centre where they can have a look around and take practice exams (limited content really for non levelled DCI person. So in answer to your first question, just whatever they get you to do when you sign up. I cant remember as I signed up over a decade ago. I assume there are terms and condition and such, which is where your interpretation of events might assist in understanding what happened and why.
The reason I think there is more out there we do not know about this is indeed because it seems the compiled information available does not justify the response. I wont make assumptions for now, and reserve opinion RE crime/ punishment. There would have to be a reason why the rest got suspended. I mean that in a literal sense, everything in the DCI system is archaic. Hell, DQ's are enough paperwork to deal with as a judge, I cant imagine what the suspension process involves...

As for the rest, I want to emphasise the most applicable part of my post is in regards to the judge support for the American SW. Its important the remaining ones know what they can do so people do not go overboard and panic RE TO's running competitive REL events such as PPTQ/ PTQ.
