I don't know if it matters online but I know that if you try to convince someone to concede you can get disqualified from RL tournaments.

Serious question though...do you really get Dqed for asking someone to disqualify...or do you mean if it is done repeatedly, after being denied initially. I guess I don't see why it'd be an issue to ask in the first place...someone may be in a good mood that day (I have personally conceded in this instance before).

NOTE: obviously offering something in return makes it immediately illegal.

  • posted a message on MTGO Card Images/MWS Question
If you download MWS, does it include all of the pictures of the cards? If yes, can you use these pictures separately?

Alternatively, is there some other way to download all the card images for all MTGO cards to have in a file on your PC?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Got one - thanks for your help!

The problem with using MODO to prepare for Nats is that your national championship will use triple Shadowmoor, which is not yet available online. It's currently unknown when Shadowmoor will be released online.

The tentative release date for Shadowmoor online is June 2. It has been noted there is a risk this may get pushed back a week. Generally, drafting starts 3 days after a set is released, though it may work differently for Shadowmoor.

Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully I'll be playing MTGO within the next week. Is there a quick start guide you could point me to or some sort of instruction manual to get started? Thanks

Well, you could try this thread first. It isn't great, but it is a start. I remember a really good thread on drafting on the gleemax forum put together by Sensei (or TheSensei, or something else), but I was not able to locate it.

So far there hasn't been any indication from WOTC on when EDH might return.

Tried again with a CC, said the same message after leading me to the main screen.

It must be the new account process, in that case. There were issues before, but they said they fixed it. You can always call customer service and ask for their assistance; I have generally found them quite helpful.

Now, when I go to Paypal on the order options, it disconnects the screen, and opens mozilla's 'problem loading page' screen after it couldn't find: /C:/Documents and Settings/Andriy/Application Data/Wizards of the Coast/Magic Online/3.0/Store/M002T2PE_paypal.html

But my internet is working, how else would I get on here?

btw: disconnected saying 'Either the New Account server is offline or you have lost your connection to the internet.'
    Is it still offline?

Last I heard they don't have the ability to buy new accounts via paypal active. If you try a CC, that would work (at least I've been successful using a cc). Paypal does work once you actually have purchased the account, as far as I know.

two nuns are sitting in the bathtub. One says, "Where's the soap?" and the second nun replies, "Yes, it is, isn't it."

Makes about as much sense as penguins.

This seems similar to the joke I think is the worst ever - worst because it is really mean to do to someone.

Basically you have to have a group of people - say 5 people, including you. You agree with 3 others to just laugh excessively at a joke you tell to the group, while acting like they've never heard it. It goes like this:

Two elephants are sitting in a bathtub. One says "please pass the soap" and the other says "no soap radio".

So everyone bursts out laughing, the 5th person inevitably starts laughing too, and while everyone is laughing, you ask if they get it. They say yes, and you ask them to explain it. And they can't.

At first I thought this was hilarious when my family did it to me, but we did it to one of my good friends from England and I felt horrible afterward. Use with caution!

Not my advice thread, but I thought I'd ask anyway - I just started from scratch on MTGO yesterday. I would like to cycle through as many drafts as possible (I scrubbed out of my first one due to my incompetence with the interface, but then won my next two) and I wanted to ask: what is the easiest/most efficient way to convert the extra packs I win into tickets to keep drafting?

If you are selling packs in the current environment, the classifieds or the trade ticker seem like your best bet - just put up a message while you are playing and someone will respond eventually. You're best off selling a draft set (e.g., LLM), rather than a single pack.

If you are selling cards for tickets, I'd recommend selling to the currently operating buy bots. Unless you plan on using the cards for constructed, generating tix this way will be useful if you hit a dry spot in drafting and start running low on packs.

Not so much right now... though in a few months, you can probably trade them for a reasonable value again.

Certainly it is more difficult now, but it is not impossible. Trading bugs make it more difficult than in v2.5, but there are still active buying bots now, and you can successfully complete trades on the system.

i would advise drafting 8-4 if your practicing for nats

Generally speaking the 8-4s often have higher rated players, and thus probably a better drafting environment; having said that, however, the 8-4 queues fire less often, and the 4-3-2-2 queues are totally fine for practicing - the competition level in a typical 4-3-2-2 queue is considerably high (as is the competition level on MTGO in general).

If you're worried about cost, and you have never drafted before, you should definitely at least start in 4-3-2-2 until you have a better idea of drafting strategies.

Each account comes with the vanguard booster pack, which has 5 generic avatars (not the momir one, of course), and some basic land. I forget the exact number of land, but I think it is 45 for whatever reason. Whatever the actual number, it will get you part of the way there.

Last I heard, paypal payments for new accounts is not currently working (since the v3.0 launch). I'd check the recent news on this, if any, before you go through the hassle of signing up for a paypal account, only to have it rejected.

I have just qualified for the Australian Nationals through regionals and it has come to my attention that I have next to none drafting experience. I am unable to attend the day which my store holds draft events so I am left with no option but to turn MTGO. Before trying it I was just wondering how much it costs to draft online. I hope to do around 2-3 drafts a week. Thanks

The cost of a draft depends on how well you do. As a beginner, I think it'd be safe to assume you will not do very well, and will have to pay full price for each draft. That would be 3 boosters + 2 event tickets, or US$13.97. There are ways of getting tickets and boosters cheaper on the secondary market, but I would not really recommend this approach for a beginner (though, if you are interested, there are guides to help people with this).

If you fancy yourself a good drafter, you can start to factor in the prizes you win drafting. Most likely you'll be playing the 4-3-2-2 queues, and may then have a decent shot of winning back 2 boosters. That would cut down the price of your subsequent drafts to US$5.99.

Further, you can sell the cards you draft on the secondary market (to bots, or on the message boards). Depending on what you pick up, you might have 2-20 tickets worth (if you get chase rares) of cards you can sell.

So, the cost of drafts depends on 1) your ability to win, and 2) the value of the cards you draft.

  • posted a message on V3 and Trading Bots
The issue is going to be the number of bots, I think. With v3 supposedly allowing unlimited accounts, conceivably each user could run multiple bots. Once we start having thousands of bots online all the time, I think it is safe to say they will be forced to do something about them (either charge bots fees, or ban them altogether).

In any event, as pointed out above, if you minimize the resources your bot takes, you shouldn't worry about any issues on a micro level.
