interesting.
let's talk paper:
logistically, a new card back for tournament play wouldn't make any difference. we can already play with double-faced cards in our decks so it's neither here nor there. We are already required to play sleeves that are fully opaque by the DCI so again no difference there.
aesthetic preference notwithstanding, the "i'll just leave the game forever" comments are childishly silly.
think about it - you (just like me) probably play magic a fair amount. FNMs, friend's houses, the occasional larger tournament maybe. When was the last time you played against an unsleeved deck? I haven't seen an unsleeved deck in years!
so on a basic level, how critical is the design on the back of the card to your enjoyment of the actual game? i'd wager that while we all think of it fondly, the answer is "basically it's not".
the vitriol here is unwarranted.
however there's a definite downside from the perspective of the type of player who doesn't engage with FNM, doesn't follow anything competitive, doesn't check on forums like these, only plays casually without sleeves and probably just brews whatever they want to without a format in mind. Those kinds of players though are also the kinds of players who would most likely shuffle 'world championship deck' cards in with regular ones, unsleeved, and not even bat an eyelid. I know this because I've been part of that kind of playgroup across multiple geographical areas. Frankly, those kinds of players wouldn't care.

I think this is the only one of the five whose ability is guaranteed to allow it to attack and block. Each one makes progress towards their trigger, but there are situations where each one won't turn on, except this one.
And you're in black? How many turns is something not going to die under your control? -

luminum can posted a message on LRR Preview - Renewed Faith & Prowling SerpopodPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Avatar »But why Cat Snake? Creative easter egg? Challenge? Incoming tribal matters? Or just for the lulz?Quote from AliasBot »What is it with Magic and funky Cat creatures lately? Tarkir had Rakshasa (Cat Demons), Kaladesh had Bandar (Cat Monkeys), and now Amonkhet has Serpopards (Cat Snakes). Not to mention the return of Felidar (Cat Beasts) in Zendikar and Kaladesh. Is this building to some sort of Cat tribal thing, or is it just "to make weird fantasy creatures, just add Cat"?
I mean, I'm a fan of the Serpopard, it's just an odd trend.
(Also, I imagine that any cycling cards that have added effects when you cycle them are going to end up at least at uncommon - that's one of the relatively few things NWO actually does impact.)Quote from Saandro »I love the art on the cat, the artist definitely made it work. But... Serpopard? Really?
It's a real thing. Well, a mythological thing, but you know what I mean. I laughed out loud seeing the card and realizing they actually went that deep. -

Pre-releases isn't about learning to play the game, it's about the excitement of opening up new cards and making a deck. Where's the fun of playing only intro decks with bad cards and not opening up a shiny mythic or valuable card? The event attracts a higher amount of new and casual players anyways, so it's not like there's a drop in attendance.Posted in: Magic General
Seriously though, the thought that EVERYONE is playing the same 2-5 decks is lame. The game may have its fair share of problems lately but pre-releases is not one of them. -

DuelPear posted a message on Well, how was YOUR box? (MM17 Edition)Man, so jealous of these pulls. My box was absolute garbage.Posted in: Magic General
The best I got was 1 goblin guide and 1 damnation.
My mythical were sphinx's revelation and Olivia Voldaren.
I didn't even hit the pot on uncommons. One Path to Exile and Flickerwhisp. No Inquisition of Kozileks, Might of Old Krosa, or Serum Visions.
My rare foil was Call of the Herd.
Everything else was all $1 rares.
I think maybe I had $75 of value in my box. Far and away the worst box I've ever opened. I'm seriously questioning whether I'll ever buy a box again with how bad this one was. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I see this list each time and think "that's nice" as I just navigate to Mythicspoiler each day.
