benjameenbear posted a message on Help with fine tuning Lavinia StaxAlright, I'll go ahead and move your thread to the cEDH forums since you'll probably get better feedback from the crowd there.Posted in: Competitive Commander (cEDH)
Thread Moved - benjameenbear
Now, assuming that you have a decently sized budget, I'll make the following recommendations:
- Mox Diamond - because a T1 Lavinia is MUCH better than a T2 Lavinia.
- Lotus Petal - while I loathe one-shot mana effects usually, getting a T1 Lavinia is very important in slowing down a game. Getting her into play ASAP will go a long way to buying you time and tempo over your opponents.
- Crucible of Worlds - because Lavinia's Stax effect is tied to the number of lands that your opponents have, it makes sense to run a LD package. Including Strip Mine, [CARD}Field of Ruin[/CARD], and Wasteland all seem really good by themselves and better when used recursively. The goal is NOT to Strip lock people, but to keep them off of lands for as long as possible so they can't cast their interaction/cheap CMC cards from disrupting your own win-condition. Keeping most players at 1-2 lands should be sufficient to slow them all down a HUGE amount and gain you valuable time. Mana Vortex is another card you could look into for a profitable LD package.
- Sun Titan - if you embrace the LD strategy, then Titan is pretty obvious in my mind.
- Supreme Verdict - unless you have a reason to be running Wrath of God, the Verdict's uncounterable ability is the real deal.
Otherwise, I think you have a great starting point for your list! Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is probably the best type of finisher this deck could ask for, so I full ysupport your game plan of hard locking the table and then swinging in for beatz. -

Welcome to MTGSal! Based on your deck composition and overall strategy, I think your deck might find a better home in the cEDH forums, which can be found here. If you're ok with your thread being moved there, I'm happy to oblige and do the necessary Mod actions to move your thread.
Now, as to your actual list, I assume you're working from some sort of budget, is that correct? I want to make sure I make recommendations to you accordingly so that you actually have a chance of testing them out reasonably. If you're not under a budget, but have the ability to proxy, then I'll happily give you optimized suggestions for Lavinia.
The first thing I'd recommend doing is streamlining your list a touch. I notice that several cards are listed twice in your decklist, which makes it difficult to keep track of how many copies of a card you have in your list. As an example, if I just quickly look at your decklist it looks like you have 21 sources of card draw, which is way too much. -

PhroX posted a message on Thinking about switching reanimatorsAs someone who plays and thoroughly enjoys both of these commanders, I'd say it really comes down to what you're looking for in terms of playstyle. Marchesa isn't really a reanimator general in the classic sense. You're not cheating things into play, you're not taking advantage of discard or Entomb, you're not using the graveyard as a resource in the way Chainer can. In fact, you don't really want to be interacting with the 'yard much at all - it's a place where your creatures will sit for a phase or two, nothing more. Marchesa generally tends towards aggression (with a correspondingly low curve), ETB/LTB abuse and an insane level of resilience.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
In all honesty, my suggestion would be to have both. There's not that much in the way of overlap between what the two commanders want - a few good black ETB creatures and sacrifice outlets and that's it really - and they play very differently. If I had to keep one, it would probably be Chainer - the ability to abuse other people's graveyards means there's always some new things for me to do in a game - although Marchesa is the stronger commander. -

darrenhabib posted a message on Thinking about switching reanimatorsMarchesa, the Black Rose is a more efficient engine if you get the right setup.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
She is definitely some orders of magnitude better, as you can setup so that it's really, really hard to remove your creatures, as they can keep coming back. So then they become immune to sorcery removal like Wrath of God, etc.
Obviously Chainer, Dementia Master is more fragile to removal, which let's be honest is the most important aspect to a successful deck.
The downside is that you're probably going to need to spend cash on making sure you have a nice Grixis mana base, and more money on signature cards.
I've been fine tuning a friends Marchesa, the Black Rose deck literally a few days ago, so if you want some help with deck list pop me a message. -

hyalopterouslemur posted a message on Brudiclad DiscussionBrudiclad, Telchor Engineer Autocard is your friend. (An aside, I like how Tel-Kor sounds like the name of a Silicon Valley startup.)Posted in: Commander (EDH)
The good thing is, you're in the colors for clone tokens, which is what you're probably going to be using a lot. Cackling Counterpart, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Rite of Replication, Mimic Vat, Mirrorworks, that sort of thing. You'll also want other cheap token sources; fortunately, artifacts and red (e.g., goblins) have you covered. Finally, don't forget that tokens needn't be artifacts or clones to be copied by Brudiclad: You'll find Reef Worm and Descent of the Dragons make you a huge army.
The downside is, you don't have a lot of the tricks token decks normally use in these colors. You can, if you want, play Purphoros, God of the Forge. And that Mirrorworks works great with Mycosynth Lattice. -

hyalopterouslemur posted a message on Birthing Pod DiscussionFortunately, green's arguably the best color for land destruction these days.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
White also gets some land destruction, but that'll just make people hate you moar. -

JWK posted a message on Birthing Pod DiscussionPosted in: Commander (EDH)Quote from hyalapterouslemur »Rubinia would be interesting just because of the steal effect, IMO.
Rubinia also sets up some other neat interactions with the access to blue artifact tutors and copying effects, as calamity_unbound noted (Copy Artifact is a thing, if you have old-school-card access). Fetch Pod, copy Pod, fetch other artifacts with high Pod synergy (Panharmonicon, for example). Steal people's good stuff, Pod their stuff, use Mimic Vat to make copies of the sacrificed stuff.
Warning, though, as a long-time Rubinia player (Rubinia was the second or third EDH deck I built back when I started the format)... some people have an irrational hatred of theft effects and will target the hell out of you, especially if you steal their stuff for Pod shenanigans and can back that up with grave hate or tricks like Mimic Vat. Also, if you run Rubinia, run some land destruction, because Rubinia hates Homeward Path. -

ISBPathfinder posted a message on Birthing Pod DiscussionI have a few suggestions for you that I am going to be a bit more broad with:Posted in: Commander (EDH)
- Try to find a commander who has an ETB effect, on cast effect, death trigger, or somehow helps the rest of the deck to do essentially that (like Karador, Ghost Chieftain). Personally I like it when the commander itself rotates through play nicely.
- If you plan to pod off your commander, focus heavily at the mana cost just above your commander as something you want to dedicate more creature slots and versatility to it.
- Focus on fast value creatures. You wan't creatures that get their value when they enter the battlefield or die and not value over time creatures or creatures who attack or defend well.
- Brutalizer Exarch - assuming you want an answer to the GR god you mentioned. I don't often run this guy but if you want to be a pod deck and you want a means of stalling / answering him its one of the few ETB effects that will exile their commander. There are some others too but I think this one will be more likely to trigger.
I guess that is what I have for suggestions. You have a lot of options on how to pull that off but generally speaking I like to mix it with black or white as my favorite colors to pick up for a pod idea. -

To answer your questions:
1) You are correct. I had way too few sac outlets. The new deck list has many more.
2) Yes I have felt that without Chainer doing his thing the deck suffers greatly. I tried adding cards like Smokestack to get some synergy outside of Chainer but I feel like I'm garbage at this for some reason.
3) I'm playing a sort of stax at the moment... I actually decided to cut Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos and I'm considering the removal of contamination right now. Smokestack definitely pushes it in the direction of stax though and if there are some other cards I can naturally fit into the deck that work with that goal I'd like to. Stax effects in my meta aren't too bad among ALL the decks but, unfortunately, the one I play against most often is heavy stax. So it's not an issue of my edict effects killing Chainer it's more my meta that does it.
4) I have played pieces of the Sanguine Bond/Exquisite Blood combo individually but honestly it's so easily disrupted that the people I play with don't see it as too much of a threat. That is why I've chosen to remove the combo from this deck entirely going into this "MK2" stage of the deck.
5) Black Market is another card I've cut from the deck. It's pretty pricey imo and I feel like the deck has been running ok without it. Plus with the addition of many more mana doublers I don't see a need for it. I'd say I do most of my work during my turn mostly because my old land base was kinda clunky and I wouldn't always have enough mana to do things on other turns. While the mana base is still kinda clunky I feel the addition of Terrain Generator helps pump out black quicker.
6) Kokusho/Gary and Rise of the Dark Realms are my usual wincons. Also Karn but that guy's crazy.
7) Tweaking is normal, yes. But this damn Glissa deck doesn't care what I do. As long as I have creatures she has fuel.
8) I am actually considering removing Sepulchral Primordial from the deck in favor of a better card but Rise of the Dark Realms I feel is just too good. Even if it only pulls stuff out of my graveyard.
Honestly did not know that card existed. Love it and it's been added to my MK2.

I've done a pretty good amount of changing to the deck but I still don't feel like it's quite where I want it to be. Biggest complaint is without an early Altar of Dementia or any other form of self mill it's been difficult to get some good resurrection targets online. Obviously when I Entomb or Buried Alive some dudes I feel good going into the late game but too many times while goldfishing I get to big mana and have nothing to do with it. Any advice or help there would be much appreciated! Also I'm considering going further into the stax zone as Smokestack has proven to be great fun for me. If you guys have any recommendations based on that I would love to hear them! Again guys, thank you for any and all criticism I can get. Asking the people I usually play with for help leads to a lot non-constructive comments.
P.S. Sorry for the wall of text with no pretty cards to look at. It's 4 AM where I'm from, this is the only convenient time I get to brew stuff and I really don't feel like linking every card in this ****in NEWSPAPER of a response.
