I'm not sure that this is a worse/better pride of clouds or not cause this wont count your opponents flyers(pride does), which can be somewhat relevant when trying to calculate damage but at the same time you dont have to upkeep the creation ability which locks down your mana during your turns so you can EOT token if you have resources.

Still a very good card and if I recall correctly this could get standard playable considering all the cheap flyers in the format.

Technical powerful, your definitely not getting this turn one unless you can shenanigans something. But late game depending on board state really really good.

eh..... its kinda good and maybe a pair would be nice but overall if they can keep you off creatures this is kinda meh even with keeping all the +1 counters the deck can theoretically create.

It might be just too slow though, even as nice a threaten-er it is. Im not sure that drawing multiple cards from one card would speed up the clock or only counting as one draw on this or not, but at minimum your looking at 3 to 4 turns before its online depending on availability of cycling and or card draw. That is a decent amount of time to respond unless you can online it immediately somehow.

this is the kind of card that I doubt could see play on standard because of lack of availability of ways to activate it quickly.
but in the right shell, it could activate pretty quickly and start dropping a ton of 8/8 monsters on old formats if you find the right combo.
it certainly can be done, question is if it can be done fast enough to make any waves at all.
Actually it could be standard...maybe. There is alot of colorless cycling costs in the new set so it could be possible in the right build. Way too early to tell of course how the meta will shake out.

Strictly better Racecourse Fury is nice, but still nothing special. It does brings the Skophos/Minotaur/Land Aura combo to Standard, so you can be the ultimate janklord at your FNM.

I actually think its much better than that card in that later ones are cheap draw that red can always use (even off turn) and the extra trample can be useful to get the last few points through on a bigger creature that you may have just played, while still being in the affordable to cast category of 1cc rather than the expected 2cc+ that usual improvements fall into. There are some cheap red/black cards in modern/standard this could really help zing and a few other cards in red/green that this could help develop.

so..... it's a repeatable effect, that throws 8/8s in the battlefield.... gets almost halfway through the counters from a single Brainstorm or Jace, The Mind Sculptor activation....

could go off instantly after wheel of fortune-ish effects.... could be pretty crazy with Teferi's Puzzle Box
this thing is certainly pretty powerful in older formats.
don't know if enough to really become a staple in anything, but surely not something to sleep on.

but dont blue decks brainstorm early if they can? When this comes down turn 2 or 3 after a control player has filtered to the position they want, its going to be hard to rack up the draws unless you get into another brainstorm, which isnt unheard of but less likely to happen until a later part of the game. I really think jace and this is the better build around since you would get the enchantment online first then use jace for army building.

Lol @ the guy asking for artifact land unban. Clearly you never played affinity.
well if they banned Arcbound Ravager in exchange it might work since they nuked Mox Opal so its not a extreme explosive combo now

Why is there always that one vote for twin unban. Its not going to happen, its a way overpowered strat that can lucksac into winning way too easy and is very hard to hate successfully against without dedicating lots of space to defeating it and only it.

So I've been thinking about this for awhile now thopter foundry and sword of the meek may be a good backup plan since we cant go as explosive anymore.

I actually believe Sai is good, but not in 0cc cost affinity. Sai is one of those off tempo cards in my opinion. He has great abilities but you have to keep cards in hand to use them which means your not progressing as you should especially when its all easily played 0CC or 1cc cards that are fairly aggressive.
If there is some easy way to continuously bounce the 0cc creatures back into your hand I could see that become a non issue. It would also have to be a may combo so that you could finally stop and not bounce your thopter tokens. I personally cant see that kind of card, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but im not sure its in the modern card pool.

So realistically the deck should probably be looking at any cards that have metalcraft and affinity in the rules text?

Another thing that might need a revisit is Tempered Steel and Steel Overseer. Admittedly the overseer seems a bit slow in comparison to certain things in the meta

edit:Whoops didnt see you mention tempered there expro

So with Opal banned the big question is, now what? Without opal to depend on for early mana what direction do you think Affinity should take?
