I agree the free equip is a great benefit and I hate to use the dies to removal argument but the re-equip cost is really high for this deck so if/when the creature its on is removed by path, push, bolt, smother, ect it just lays there doing nothing and the mana you would need to re equip it is probably going to be used to cast a creature or spell rather than re-equip regardless of the devotion it brings. Don't get me wrong its initial usefulness can be tremendously swingy but if it cant get there after its been un-equipped it is really dead for the board state. That is why even without the free equip the adventuring gear is superior in that regard as we could actually swing the 1 equip cost and play another beater even though it wont initial equip to the creature. If we ran extra mana sources in the deck I would say the pickaxe would be the superior card since the offset of mana sources could re-equip the card.

I can see what your leaning toward but the issue is as always going to be the re equip cost, and Adventuring Gear has that beat hands down and we still don't play it. If we bounced artifacts or permanent's in some way beneficial to us overall then it wouldn't be a issue. As it stands anything we would equip it to basically has a target painted on it, that it may only get one swing or two if possible and while those swings could be very very big ones it still shrinks at end of turn.

so, complete garbage in 2HG or commander.

starts getting useful once both players are below 17 life in regular magic.
not sure what really can this do.
not so, since if kicked at certain points in a commander game can offset alot of incidental or incremental life gain some decks can produce. Not perfect by any means and you have to have the right timing but it can at least change the tables politics

The picture bothers me. It doesn't look like it's in the cliff yet it's being held up somehow.
With that type of handle it could theoretically be balanced enough to just hang like it is. Bad idea though since it could easily fall if the wind gusts in the wrong direction.

Its not bad unkicked, not that great either but not bad. In Stompy id be more interested in swarm shambler since it can plus itself later on and it has a semi replacement effect in the insect token. Dunno if it replace anything mind but its something to test at least. Admittedly I'm interested in g/w and Conclave Mentor with some of this stuff, but that's just me

I dont get the astrolabe ban. Admittedly I haven't played in quite some time but aren't there other filter artifacts out there. Is it the one drop, the card draw, or all three that made this too powerful?

This eventually will crash the Paper market. Even "collectible" cards won't be the hot items anymore once everyone is playing digitally

Digital Magic is not at an acceptable level to replace paper yet, imo.

Arena is the most developed option,
and it has a mere *fraction* of the total available card pool.
It’s fine for Standard or Brawl (lol),
but the EDH crowd isn’t going to be satisfied with how Arena is currently.

Of course they could eventually get all of the paper cards into Arena,
but they haven’t seemed terribly interested in that so far.
I could actually see them trying that now that paper is going to be harder to pull off this year. Sadly though Wizards/Hasbros track record when it comes to digital anything is hardly anything good

Why, seriously why? They already had cryptic command why does blue need ANOTHER freaking toolbox card like this? Even at 6cc this will be played especially in U/W control builds because three of the modes are pretty much assured to be used at once each time you use the thing and the fourth can help you end the game with your trump creature being copied. Least with cryptic you could only choose two modes.

It's 6 mana. No competitive deck wants a six-mana counterspell outside of Limited and Cube, no matter how many things are stapled on it. Sure, the ceiling is amazing, but both this and Cryptic Command have the same floor as Dismiss, and no one will play Dismiss for six mana.

Did you forget cryptic command is played in modern? Despite the cost.

Right but cryptic is 4 mana. They are saying that a counter + draw is not playable at 6 mana and since the other modes are less likely to be used they aren't worth that extra mana.
This IS modern playable. As a 4 off no, but lets say that U/W control is in the later stages of the match and can win next turn, and you have burned all your cryptic commands keeping them off balance. A pair or maybe but unlikely a trio of this can offput a lot of annoyance if timed right. Likely at this stage you can get 4 out of 5 of its lines unless your in a mirror match and even then you can stop man lands from activating for blocks i.e. celestial colonnade. Hitting 6 mana if your a control deck is doable, you want to reach the mid to late game. This card while yes a bit unwieldly can be used as cryptic 5 and 6 if it needs to stop a unfavorable play.

Yeah people forget that you DONT always have to companion this. You can just play a set and then discard/sac the spoiled card to get the 5/5 demon.

This could be pretty bomby in standard. Probably not modern unless more steps were taken to ramp or protect it but still could be possible.
Two cards that spring to mind to leverage it are the already said Rhythm of the Wild and Torch Courier since both can come out pre elder and both can give haste while being doubly useful in the early game. What the rest the deck would be is unknown since I'm no way knowledgeable about standard atm.

There are a few mono colored decks that dont need them but yes, overall its a better idea to save up to trade or buy the ones you need. I would STRONGLY recommend buying the Khans ones first since they will be overall cheaper to acquire and should give you enough deck flex before you try and buy the zendikar enemy ones as needed.

Been checking a few times since the full spoiler was released and since it became legal, and its still has not been added to the deck builder database. I get that the people in charge are likely self isolating ATM but just a FYI for when somebody gets a chance.
