Tev I looked through the change log and I'm kinda surprised that there was not certain cards in the deck at one point or another.

    angrath, the flame-chained
    rampaging ferocidon
    heartless hidetsugu

was also kinda surprised that Zo-zu the punisher and ankh of Mishra weren't in but upon further consideration they are more reactive than proactive like the stax deck your trying to build.

I'm not going to say your wrong about some of my motivations but one of the bigger things I hate is to see is u/w against u/w control decks and they take forever going against each other. If the meta gains enough that u/w whatever gets going it really makes the tournaments from a local level on up just become a slogfest. Even with the 5 turn rule in place some folks just cant seem to play the deck with any speed.

That was mostly joking for KTK since he was talking about turn three kills, but in truth the more turns you go down in modern the more a snap command can shut you down when you need to attack then they wack you upside the head with nothing to block with if decks have their finishers in play. Like anything if they can shut down the early plays you might not have the gas to win after a certain point or it just wont matter cause they get answers.

its not anything at all, because its never been in the format. also you are assuming UW would even be the best shell for stoneforge, which is highly debatable.

I'll concede that its never been in modern but I played through the cawblade era of magic. Just for a example the best red deck that could be made in standard with the ubiquitous lightning bolt, goblin guide, ect couldn't lay a finger on the beast that was cawblade. After that ban I had a month or so of playing what felt like a red modern deck of the time in standard. Red was insanely good but got out powered by batterskull, JTMS, stoneforge, and colonnade with snapcaster backup. Modern is a different beast yes but giving all those tools to remake a very unfun meta seems less than desirable.

As for what other decks SFM could be applied to, well affinity would get ALOT more playable since cranial plating is now assured not hoped. Dunno if that would warp the meta at all. After that I don't know what other archetypes might spring up with a stoneforge in modern. I just don't want to see modern variances get lower. Big meta is much more fun than bumping into the same 4 decks every tourney

So you always win turn three? Cool what deck are you playing and what's your list?

Realistically what are the majority of w/x decks going to play if they put stoneforge back in? The only logical choice that gives the most power to weight ratio is batterskull which needs no other creature and can save itself decently. Like you said hollow one needs 16 enablers, stoneforge really only needs itself and one other card. Other than a weird voltron swords of deck what other equipment are you truely going to play with stoneforge.

A Snapcaster Mage ban is ridiculous. As far as SFM goes, it's a much lower power level card than Thought Knot Seer, which is also a 4/4 on turn 3, and TKS comes with it's own protection.
In a vacuum its less powerful yes. Without batterskull its decently fair. WITH batterskull that's what made it broken. Make u/w control with stoneforge and not play batterskull with it, only use the swords of and such. It's not nearly oppressive.

With JTMS now that he's back why not test a meta without snapcaster and see if its jace that's more powerfull or snapcaster/jace together. I mean they nuked Naya with nactal for a few years to see how the meta shook out. Then they brought back nactal. Do the same with snappy. Blue doesn't always have to have all the tools twice with snap if it has good filtering with Jace.

Personally Id like to see a snapcaster ban. It be interesting to see how modern blue would shake out if they couldn't stall out and double use a bunch of utility spells.

Yikes. I can't really parse the last 2.5 years of Modern in any way that could possibly justify a Snapcaster ban. This was a deck type that was outright bad for 2016-2017, struggling but solidly Tier 2 for 2017-2018, and only verifiably Tier 1 for 3-4 months of this year. And even there, it has far less metagame presence than other top-tier regulars and all-stars like Gx Tron, Burn, Humans, Affinity, etc. I just can't see where this suggestion comes from.

Mostly from seeing too many shenanigans with snapcaster from over the years, not just in modern. It is a broken card in some respects in that it allows you to use things twice, yes you usually cant cheat the play from yard cmc cost much but its still aggressively played in anything that has a lot of instants and sorceries with cheap value and access to blue. Add in stoneforge and you pretty much have what caw blade was back in the day with even more and better removal options.

Also recently for me U/W/? within two matches cryptic commanded me 7 times with snapcaster backup, if you don't find THAT obnoxious well.... Admittedly also that was in a match that top decked terminus twice on turn three naturally ugh. Still shows how with the correct build of U/W it can get oppressive.

Taking stoneforge off the banlist would be interesting as well. But the corralary to it is the banning of batterskull at the same time. Stoneforge by itself isnt that bad as seen by the zendikar standard before mirroden dropped. Used ALOT yes, but living weapon is what pushed it over the top especially batterskull. Letting u/w players get that combo on turn 3 and dropping it on 4 with protection is just too broken. Adding the tool box that is JTMS pushes it too far. You really dont need to see a quickban in modern if it just goes into cawblade folks.

    SOON

    lol.

God I wish, but not a chance will WOTC do it with a pro tour coming up.

only if they ban batterskull when they bring back the stoneforge, cant let u/w get too many toys or make caw blade a deck again.

Yeah its probably in my mind that 12 fetches feels overloaded considering its a mono deck. Multicolor decks don't feel that way to me simply cause you NEED colors in certain combinations. I'll test to see some more before I tweak Greenwheel out altogether. I will say Im keeping the vista in since its a nice non shock if we can keep about 6 forests.

On liege I actually like her a lot in the fact that its a decent sized body which messes up combat math with not alot of downsides per say but if we went with a more +1 counters with Rishkar and Warcaller that might be a better direction. Least we have time to test test test.

Sooo been playing this deck and I've been getting stupid amounts of outliers land floods. That and I personally have tried a decent amount of ways to make Greenwheel work but cant seem to manage the timing. Either I'm getting not enough sources of sac or I'm getting them at the wrong time so I believe its time to go with other options.

I also don't feel comfortable with your manabase Amicdeep. I can make it because I do have literally all of those cards, but how much life do you loose to it every game? Driving yourself down to 10 or 11 like that in such a fast format can work if we have the chops but it just feels dangerous. But then they previewed the new lord and it seems like a better fit for our two drop slot...maybe. Also Warcaller is looking interesting as well but my variant isn't packing as much +1 counters but that may change.

    Current build

One thing you may need to revisit is that 2 temples "might" be enough, but what happens if your ghost quartered or fielded after you may have used a few horizons. Which is why I chose canopy vista in my build still fetchable but less damage. I get that it works more for me considering the amount of basics but that might be a personal flavor thing rather than efficiency. Dromoka's has been a house. Its not always been immediately effective yet in my build but I was always glad to see it as long as I had a field. The new lord might be nice as a throw in since it fills a spot in the roster that greenwheel leaves in my build whether its effective enough or if I should put in warcaller is something to test. I played out a few games with lead in my build and its almost always been a two for 1 at minimum and is a nice reloader. Depending on what I tweak later it could become a 3 for 1.

My ideas on the three color choices you can add. I will say the black splash is my weakest developed.

I have played this deck, but got the suckiest matchups possible in w/u miracles with natural Terminus twice on turn three and w/u/r control as well. So if its in your meta you might want to consider caverns of soul's. Will probably play more soon but just didn't have the time lately.

Ok you can use Dauntless but then you are two for oneing yourself to maybe remove 3 to maybe 4 creatures. Which could yes win you the game depending on board state but its still a 1/120+ chance at happening alongside getting the wrath when needed.

If you use Selfless Spirit then you may as well drop exemplar altogether and add Honor of the pure or a glorious anthem type card like Benalish marshal so that you are still two for oneing yourself but you get an evasive beater in the air as alongside keeping the buff going on your tokens and other knights. The only real issue I have for vial is are we always keeping it at two or would it be better at three so we have more reactives in like dropping spirit or exemplar during an opponents turn or in response to a removal?

Its not actually. Yeah you can theoretically do it and it kinda sorta works but the hoops you go thru just to do it are more than its really worth.

You have to remember the wording on exemplar is "Other Knights" so in itself it doesn't have indestructible meaning you need two so that both gain that keyword. Or that you need a darksteel plate on your exemplar. Getting a exemp is a 1 in 60, getting two is a 1 in 120, same for any combination of exemplar and plate depending on the ratios. That isn't factoring in the land ratio to run wrath/day/damnnation alongside its own ratio of how many in the deck to when you need it to draw factor. Which also squeezes the amount of flex space down for other parts of the agro cards needed.

This all assumes that the knight/s isn't removed by path, bounced, killed before equipped, opponent has no -x/-x effects, and so on.
